Post Up: Straight Stuntin’

Miami keeps on rollin’.

by Peter Walsh

Wizards 107 (26-44), Grizzlies 94 (47-23)

John Wall: Slow down, you’re killin ‘em. The rising point guard played the best game of his young career, going for 47 points (13-22 shooting), 8 dimes, 7 boards and 2 turnovers to lead the Wizards to a surprising win over the Grizz. Wall scored 17 of his points in the fourth quarter and led a 13-3 run that put the Wizards up 96-83 with 3:48 left. The Grizz went on a 11-2 run of their own to cut the deficit to four but Wall hit a dagger three to end hopes of a comeback and seal the win for D.C. Emeka Okafor finished with 21 points and 9 boards. Mike Conley led the Grizz with 23 points and 7 dimes, but also had 6 turnovers.

Heat 108 (56-14), Magic 94 (18-53)

Another night, another victory for the Miami Heat. Miami was led by LeBron’s 24 points, 11 dimes and 9 boards and the best player in the world came up big down the stretch. Orlando tied it up at 68 late in the third quarter when the King threw down a dunk then hit a layup and drew a foul to give the Heat control. Miami then cruised to the finish line. With Dwyane Wade out again with a sore knee, Mario Chalmers picked up the slack. ‘Rio scored 17 points on 4-5 shooting from three, dropped 5 dimes and had 3 steals. Miami has now won 27 straight. Jameer Nelson led the Magic with 27 points and 12 dimes.

Pacers 100 (44-27), Hawks 94 (39-32)

The Pacers led by as many as 28, but the Hawks stormed back in the fourth quarter thanks to an Indiana collapse. Over a six-minute span, Nap Town committed five turnovers and missed five straight shots allowing the Hawks to go on a 14-2 run to cut the deficit to ten. The Pacers eventually pushed the lead back to 13 with three minutes left, but the Hawks ripped off a 9-0 run to make it a four point game with one minute to go. The Hawks got a stop on the next possession but D.J. Augustin stole the ball from John Jenkins and found Gerald Green. The prolific dunker immediately fired up a 3-pointer and what would have been a terrible shot otherwise fell through and the Pacers held on for the dub. Green led the way with 19 points and 6 boards and Roy Hibbert finished with 17 points and 13 boards.

Hornets 110 (25-46), Nuggets 86 (49-23)

The Nuggets’ 15-game winning streak came to an end last night in New Orleans. The Hornets led by double-digits much of the way and absolutely blew out Denver, who may have got caught looking ahead to their game against San Antonio tomorrow night. Ryan Anderson led the way with 23 points and 9 boards while Brian Roberts–who started in place of Greivis Vasquez–finished with 13 points and 18 dimes. Eric Gordon also sat with an injury. Danilo Gallinari scored a game-high 24 points and Ty Lawson sat for the third straight game with a heel injury.

Jazz 107 (35-36), Sixers 91 (27-43)

The Jazz led wire-to-wire and bounced back after a losing streak with a blowout win over the Sixers. Utah trails the Lakers for the eighth seed in the West but play seven of their last 11 games at home, giving them a great chance to sneak into the postseason. Seven different Jazz players scored in double-figures and Gordon Hayward and Randy Foye led the way with 15 and 17, respectively. Dorrell Wright scored 19 off the bench for Philly.

Warriors 109 (41-31), Lakers 103 (36-35)

The final deficit was six but the game wasn’t really that close. Golden State led by as many as 25 and ran circles around a Laker team that looked out of sync for much of the game. Steph Curry led the way with 25 points and 10 dimes, Klay Thompson scored 22 and David Lee had a 23-point, 12-rebound double-double. Kobe finished with 36 on 11-17 shooting, Dwight Howard grabbed 15 boards and Steve Nash had 21 points, 9 boards and 7 dimes.

John Wall and Stephen Curry. Need I say more?

  • spit hot fiyah

i have heared about the contract year. wall just showed us the contract game.
and the mavs are getting closer and closer to that playoff spot. i didn’t think they had it in them.

  • Max

    John Wall, damn man. 47 – 7 – 8 with only 2 TO’s on 23 shots.
Did anyone watch the game and could that person tell me why Tony Allen only played 16 minutes?

  • Max

    Brian Roberts?

  • Stepfan Raiford

Last night John Wall played like a max contract player. The way he took over reminded me of the good ol Gilbert Arenas era. Just wish John had more talent around him, but a great win for my Wizards.

I thought LA making the playoffs was a done deal, but I guess the suspens will last till the last minute, also, if Dallas win their next game they’ll be one win away from the 8th spot just like Utah.

Just curious where you get your games? I torrent them and watch them once I get off from work.

    Dirty play by David Lee?

  • spit hot fiyah

you can get them at bt.davka.info, but they don’t upload all the good stuff. i get min sport-scene.net. they have basically all the nba and college games that are worth watching. good quality too. it’s invite only though, but from time to time they let people sign up. u find a gang of vintage games there. nba, college, high school, even documentaries. and a bunch of other sports as well.

  • Max

He just had a regular Lebron game.

If only this were a contract year

  • spit hot fiyah

they can extend him this summer if they want to to the 5 year deal. so in a sense it is, but yes he is still under contract next season regardless

  • http://twitter.com/stepfdelaghetto Stepfan Raiford

davka.info is where I get my links but thank you for the other link.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Yes an early extension. But that doesn’t make this a contract year. He’s still got 30ish games until the point next season when teams typically extend guys in his situation. I doubt they let him get to free agency tho, that I agree with you.

  • spit hot fiyah

i should have called it an extension game instead of contract game, i know it’s not a contract year a la josh smoth for example.

  • spit hot fiyah

question: do you think Washington gives him a max extension or do you think that wall will accept less than the max? if they can’t see eye to eye on that they will have to let him hit the market and then match if they want to keep him for less than the max, assuming he won’t accept anything less based on his comments.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Yeah, the only reason I said anything is because its not like this game solidifies anything. It shows what he’s capable of, but his shot selection is still an issue. There is room to grow, and more games to prove consistency. And consistency is the key aspect of a Max player. So hopefully he keeps up the level of play he’s been at for the last couple weeks for a while longer so this max contract issue doesn’t have to be discussed. .
if i just made it sound like I don’t think he’s a Max player, that’s not what I was tryna do. I was just tryna convey this one huge game doesn’t change anything from how it was at the beginning of yesterday.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

John Wall is getting a max one way or another. Just a matter of if Washington wants to give him the 5-year max, or if they want to match someone else’s 4 year max offer. But Wall is getting the max, and he will be with Washington long term.

  • spit hot fiyah

agreed. but can’t wiz offer a 4 year max that is bigger than other teams’ 4 year max?

  • spit hot fiyah

agree with that also, more than anything i think he has to prove that he can stay healthy

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

No, that 5th year is the extra money they can offer. But only one 5 year max per team.

  • Sérgio

Man, the Lakers played a horrible game last night. Kobe forced A LOT of 3s. Nash didn’t make some shots that are usually money for him. Dwight didin’t look interested at all in the game, always coming up late in defense and putting no effort whatsoever. And Gasol, seriously, why did he come back? I’m starting to believe that it could be better for LA to shut him down this season.

But we shouldn’t forget D’Antoni: why the F&CK does he keep on insisting to get the ball to the post by pick n roll? My goodness, Gasol doesn’t have the mobility to do that. It was utterly frustrating to see him standing in the 3 pt line, with Howard in the bench, during the 4th quarter.

No to mention the defense, where everybody gets lost in 2 out of 3 possessions.

Aside from his knee injury this year, he’s pretty much proven that. 14 missed games his rookie year, 0 his second. One minor knee injury isn’t really a cause for concern.

David Falk must have on that “I just ate a**” face”

  • LakeShow

I wish Kobe was 11-17. He was 11-27…

  • Slick Ric

Great game by Wall, happy for him

  • KobesTheShotJacker

    The usual

  • LakeShow

If that was “usual” he wouldn’t average 8 percentage points better on the year.

Which current guys, besides the ones you work with, do you enjoy watching?

A guy that I really like is [John] Wall from Washington. Yeah. That’s becoming one of my guys. One of my kids. He tweeted me and asked for my number and I called him and we’ve been tight ever since. He’s a kid where I like him because he called me to ask me how to get better at playing defense and how to become a good point guard.

John Wall is already a great defender at the PG spot, so I can only imagine how dominant he would be on the defensive end learning from the Glove.

    11-27 isn’t 8% tho…..

    Re-Read everything.
    Take back your down vote.

hey now nbk. Didn’t you tell me a few weeks ago I was wrong about 1 five year max per team?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

I don’t think so? But if I did I was fully wrong. Unless we were referring to before the new CBA? .
I apologize if I did man, you were right.
