Angry Shannon Brown Says Phoenix Suns ‘Lied’ to Him

According to Shannon Brown, Phoenix Suns management deceived him about his role on the team this season. Brown, glued to the bench for the last two months, blasts his employer. Per the AZ Republic: “I did what I needed to do as a starter and handled my business,’ Brown said. ‘For some reason, they want to cut my legs from under me. I know I’m built for it. I did a great job of holding my composure and not letting it get to me to where I did something detrimental to my career. I showed a lot of character by sitting back while I was taken advantage of in a lot of ways. I’ve done everything asked of me in practice and made sure to show these people what time it is. It definitely hurts to sit on the bench, watching us lose night in and night out knowing I can help and being lied to. It’s been a crazy year. I’m just glad I made it through.’ Shortly after Lindsey Hunter became interim head coach, Brown moved to the end of the bench to create playing time for Wes Johnson, who is averaging 13.5 points as a starter. Brown made spot appearances in five of the past 27 games when Hunter was displeased with the team’s effort. Out of respect, Hunter said he would not use Brown in mop-up duty but also did not play him Saturday night when only nine other players were available at Minnesota. ‘I was told that it would change,’ Brown said. ‘It’s one thing hoping. It’s another thing being told that and it doesn’t happen. I could see if we were winning, but we just won our first game in 11 games. The part that hurts most is, whenever I step on the court, I give whatever I got even though it might not be the best situation. I give it all until it hurts. It hurts even more when you’re always fighting an uphill mountain-climb battle with no gear, butt-naked out there, clawing and scratching. People come to me and apologize for what’s going on.’ Asked who pledged a change or lied, Brown only said, ‘The people in charge.’ [...] ‘I’m glad I didn’t let my emotions get the best of me and lash out like I normally do,’ Brown said. ‘Younger Shannon Brown would’ve been out of the NBA for doing something he couldn’t handle. I’ve been through enough.’”

Slam, when the block of text is twice as long as it is wide, it might be a good idea to stick a paragraph in there.

I don’t know if its just me but I hate Lindsey Hunter’s rotations, there’s no consistency on that team.

I don’t follow the Suns but the games I’ve seen, Hunter looks like he’s way in over his head.

Besides the fact that the coaching staff sucks, the Suns are a bunch of cast-off players; I don’t know how anyone expected them to mesh together and make a playoff run. Michael Beasley has really fallen off, Goran Dragic and Luis Scola aren’t going to carry anyone anywhere, Jermaine O’Neal and PJ Tucker have started a bunch of games, and Wesley Johnson is rotting away on the bench. As for Brown, he’s clearly more suited for a sixth man role on most teams.

the LA situation aint lookin too bad now huh?

    Agreed

  • spit hot fiyah

that might have been the plan. tank city

  • spit hot fiyah

Wesley johnson has actually looked like an nba playing while starting

I always wondered how Hunter got promoted so quickly.
    I’ll say this;
My lasting image image of Hunter is observing him physically piggy-backing Mitch Richmond. While gently caressing Richmond’s bald head at the same time. On camera. And when Richmond realized that the cameras were on the two of them, Richmond quickly got Hunter off of him, and got out of camera’s view.
This was while someone on the Lakers was being interviewed after a game.
Take from it what one may take from it…

The Suns have no direction at all. The Kings have a brighter future than they do. Shannon is a victim of that.

  • reedo

Shannon has every right to make this statement, I was on the Wesley Johnson and Kendall Marshall bandwagon but they are both terrible! If you put them both in one you would get Shannon Brown

  • roscoe

not only is tank city point a good one, but also PHX damaged dMajerle & are changing the organization’s entire culture “Post-Nash” – era.

they’re reinventing Suns hoops and hunter is a pawn in their game.

Nobody on the roster is a keeper right now. Why not experiment with some rotations just to see which guys could develop in the future? It’s not like the team was going anywhere this season anyways.

  • chump

What i take from that is the US is a homophobic culture.

When the Suns call a time-out, it’s always the assistants drawing up plays while Lindsey stands around watching. I always thought that was weird. Even Thibs who is more of a defensive coach draws up the plays. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the head coach delegate this to the assistants.

  • king-hoops

i think the suns were just tanking. And even though Shannon brown isn’t elite he could easily be a 6th man on most teams or probally 7th or 8th in rotation for contenders.

  • http://twitter.com/_DFrance DFrance

He just sits there talking to his assistants. And when he stands he looks like he’s standing because that’s what a coach is supposed to do. Lol

  • Max

    Should’ve stayed with the Lakers..

  • LP

Shannon, you lied to us about being a respectable dunk contest participant.

  • spit hot fiyah

would i lie to you baby, would i lie to you, oh yeah -Charles and Eddie voice

  • TV63

It’s called tanking. A lot of teams lie. Look at New York Jets. They’re the King of Liars.

  • bike

Brown should jump on Hunter’s back and caress his head?

  • itsDapsYO

    word

  • RipCity

For real, that is the biggest thing keeping me away…

  • http://twitter.com/thursti_tyht Thurstian Tsui

That’s a good point, but at the same time it’s hard to expect players to be comfortable going from starting one night to playing 10 minutes the next night, it’s awful for chemistry.

  • JL

A la Mike Brown (offensive genius Kuester (didn’t he get fired from the Pistons?) was drawing up the plays)? I saw it many times and thought man if the guy can only coach half the game why is he a head coach?

  • JL

The thing is, he’s not any better than any of the other SGs on the team. If he was good, then sure play him, but why not play a younger guy who is already about the same and could get better?

  • KingBenjamin

Never understood why he left the Lakers to go to the Suns.

  • Yehsame

Oklahoma trade :kendrick Perkins, Jeremy lamb, perry jones jr, first round pick
Phoenix trade: marcin gortat, Shannon brown, 2nd round pick

  • LindsayHunterHater

Fire Lindsay Hunter. He’s not even an official coach. Didn’t play Dragic for like 7 games that retard, instead he plays sucky Marshall, RIDICULOUS!!!!

  • John S Smith

Ask for trade to Bulls, we could use you explosiveness of the bench!

  • Anthonyd Smith

Come home, Shannon. The city misses you.

  • Ryan Seavey

    Lol that’s a terrible idea
