Derrick Rose ‘Most Likely’ Won’t Return During the Playoffs

All season long, the Chicago Bulls have clung to the possibility that Derrick Rose would return and rescue their season. With the Playoffs now underway, they’re starting to admit that it’s unlikely Rose will suit up and play anytime prior to next season. Per the Chicago Sun-Times: “With the announcement made by coach Tom Thibodeau on Saturday that Derrick Rose would ‘most likely’ be out for the rest of the playoffs, still not over the mental hump of reaching that comfort level with his surgically-repaired left knee, came more negative sentiment from a fan base that has grown tired of the waiting game. The Bulls players felt it on Sunday, as did their coach in Tom Thibodeau. ‘Don’t judge character by an injury,’ small forward Luol Deng warned. [...] Thibodeau was asked if even he was starting to get bothered by the way in which is star point guard was being judged, especially with more and more questions about Rose’s heart thrown out on talk shows and in social media, and chose his words carefully. ‘It’s not bothersome because I know all that he’s putting into it and I know who he is,’ Thibodeau said. ‘I know his character and he’s done amazing things for our organization, and he’s doing all he can. That’s all you can ever ask a guy to do, so there’s always going to be some negativity, but I think the vast majority of it is very positive.’ [...] ‘Because as [Bulls team doctor] Dr. Cole said from Day 1, it was going to be eight months to a year,’ Thibodeau said. ‘Okay, so, you hope for the best, you plan for the worst. The thing is, we don’t want him out there until he’s completely comfortable and he’s not comfortable yet, so that’s part of what we expected. ‘As long as he continues to work the way he has, I’m good with it. I know how important he is and not just him. This would apply to any other guy. If a guy gets injured like that, you have to be patient.’”

Wash….. Rinse….. Repeat…. 2 guys tear their acl on the same day, one guys sits out a year, the other guy has been playing for the past 2 months… Name these players…

It’s obvious they decided to keep him out because of our chances of winning…. Not because he wasn’t ‘ready’…….still felt he shoulda played a few minutes per game, because now this whole summer he’ll be thinking how he hasn’t played in a year….

“Most likely’ means he probably won’t but he might. It depends on how he’s feeling, whether he’s comfortable in his own skin, and how he feels about himself as a person. Lately, Rose has been in touch with his feminine side and she can’t make up her mind either. Which exacerbates the situation.

Look at the guy who’s been playing for 2 months. Show me one highlight where he looks like he did before the injury. What’s his statline look like since he’s been back?

  • pposse

Shumpert had his surgery within the week he tore his acl, d rose didn’t do the surgery for a whole month after the tear.

  • LP

Doesn’t matter…..not about stats….its not about when surgery was…… My point is, he’s clearly being held out for political reasons… Its not really about him being healthy enough or ready to play…..they don’t have a great chance, so the Bulls organization and Rose’s team have long ago decided not to bring him back this year….i just hope this doesn’t mentally mess with him the start of next season or during training this summer….

  • LP

He’s been practicing in full for 2 months tho. I understand people heal differently, i understand he has to be mentally ready, but youre kidding yourself if you think Rose cant go out there RIGHT NOW and play 20 minutes. Mind you, he probably had the best rehab money can buy this past year….its politics… Admit it…

  • pposse

i really don’t know why he is not playing at this point; i want him to play, i would think that yeah he can contribute atleast 20 mins a game. but if he wants to play only when he is %100 then so be it. Sometimes i just think that there has to be something more to this story than we are getting.

it wouldn’t be a regular monday without a slam article mentioning rose’s comeback

Bottom line is D rose is a bust. 2 years wasted and one year he won an MVP that wasn’t his. Lebron averaged more points blocks steals rebounds and one less assists. He had better field goal and 3 point percentages. He had 4 less wins and had more win shares and a higher efficieny rating and player rating. D rose had one good year that got overhyped and He’s been a bust since

    Nice job troll…….

    Exactly…No lie, my real reaction.

Clearly? Or is that just your opinion? Dude just had his first major injury and it was to his knee. Given how explosive he is, I could understand him being hesitant about coming back and playing especially with how much responsibility he has to shoulder offensively for that team. No one knows for sure except him and the organization. I think he’ll be ready to go come October. A summer training in LA plus training camp and preseason ball will have him ready. Shumpert can come back and play at 70% without the casual fan noticing because he doesn’t have half the burden that Rose has. All eyes are on Melo. Not that way with Rose and the Bulls. All eyes are on him. As for the Bulls chances, they won’t have too much of a better chance next season than they had when Rose was MVP. They don’t have the money to make any significant moves. What they have now isn’t enough.

What would 20 minutes a game do in a playoff series that the Bulls won’t be winning? Against Deron Williams who’s playing like a top 5 PG again. Knowing how competitive he is, why would he be out there just running around and taking a few shots while his mind would be telling him to take over games as he watches his team struggle to score and also telling him that he’s not yet capable of doing what he’s used to doing? Too much of an issue. No one knows what it is. Everything is speculation unless you’re a part of the Bulls organization or you’re Derrick Rose himself. Either way, it’s too late now. If he was going to play at all, it would have been in the regular season. He’s not going to step on the floor in the postseason and he shouldn’t, especially not against Deron Williams.

    Perfect

At this point the Bulls are just jerking us around. I’m not going to say that there is something they aren’t telling us about Rose but continuing to update us on him is becoming redundant. Just say he’s not going to play and look forward to next season.

  • LP

Of course we don’t want him becoming back in the playoffs…i was referring to coming back during the reg season and playing 20 mins

  • LP

You’d better be glad nobody comes in to read these Rose updates anymore… They’d crucify you…..

  • underdog

Smart decision by a player, who is able to think in the long term.

  • Anthony Dixon

word lol… dropping stats and all

  • hmm

Such a shame if any other player had been cleared to play for so long and they were holding out, everyone would have turned against them by now but rose still gets coddled. Noah is the heart Chicago, Rose is just happy getting paid.

He came back early from a previous injury. Now, he has an ACL…
One should not blame him if he doesn’t feel like he “has it”.
    In my estimation.
But at the same time, he has had medical clearance for over a month. I believe that during that month, (six weeks) he could have played 5 – 10 minutes per half. Just to get a feel. Just to get to the point to where he trusts his body. Don’t run him 40 minutes per in the Playoffs.
Bringing him back now would be counterproductive, in my opinion.
    For all involved.
    I could be wrong…

A ton of people have been bashing DRose lately, I guess its reasonable that he doesn’t come back till he’s 100% but at the same time he’s been cleared so long he should’ve at least tried a couple regular season games.
