Phil Jackson Compared Chris Paul’s Push-Off to Michael Jordan’s

Using a light shove, Chris Paul was able to separate himself just enough from Tony Allen’s tenacious D to knock in the game-winner. Watching Game 2 of this intense Grizzlies/Clippers Playoff matchup from home, Phil Jackson jokingly tweeted that CP3 did something similar to what Michael Jordand did to Bryon Russell in Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals: “As per MJ’s shot in game 6. That wasn’t a push off. It was a helping hand to a broke down comrade. :-)

I re-watched the clip about 5 times and that wasn’t really an obvious push-off imo. Like Tony didn’t even show any signs of backward movement so good no call

    Not even close.

Tony Allen and CP3 could’ve both been called for fouls. I love how the refs just let them play and keep the game in the player’s hands.

  • The refs decided to let every contact go on that play on both sides. First a defensive foul on Allen and then maybe an offensive foul on Paul. Seems like a good no call to me and Tony didnt even complain about it either…

Agreed, Allen isn’t gonna fly across the court rolling on the floor crying for a call like cp3. But hey it world for Paul. He got plenty of calls on flops last night.

it took me a while but i think i finally understand why Phil Jackson would dare compare CP3 to His Airness…he wants that LA Clippers coaching job. This is the only job that might be available and would be appealing to PJ. Phil Jackson gots that #subliminal game on lockdown!

    Andre Miller’s hook tops this!

it was actually 3 or 4 fouls. you are not allowed to knock the defenders arm away or push off and paul did a mixture of the above 3-4 times without getting called for it(as per his usual), thats poor officiating. as a reff , you dont want to make a call like that on a big play but that was nonsense to allow him to undermine the rules and tony allens great defense. defenders already have it tough enough as it is. reffs need to stop this horseshit of not calling fouls at the end of quarters and games, it makes it pointless to even get into the paint most of the time.

back on topic, cp3 probably uses the stiff arm more than any player in the history of the nba and very rarely gets called for it. every damn time he has the ball , he pushes. id like to see how long steve blake or any other lesser pg would last in a game doing that, i bet theyd be on the bench after a few trips.

cp3 and griffen often act like babies and yet they get their way the majority of the time. cousins payed a nice fine to let the media know about big baby blake lol. im all for letting teams play but the underhanded bs like pushoffs, flopping(funny how the underhanded teams are the worst floppers as well) and inconsistency of calls are dragging the game down.

Memphis fans are such a joke. Paul is fouled once before the shot and once after. None of those were called. But memphis fans love to ignore one of the worst floppers in the nba, marc gasol.
