San Antonio Spurs Put Los Angeles Lakers in 2-0 Hole

by Marcel Mutoni @ marcel_mutoni

Having climbed a steep hill just to qualify for the Playoffs, the Los Angeles Lakers don’t seem like they will be sticking around for very much longer.

The San Antonio Spurs have a commanding 2-0 series lead, and the Lakers’ bodies continue to break down. Steve Blake suffered a hamstring injury in the fourth quarter and his status for Game 3 is up in the air; Steve Nash limped around the court after aggravating hamstring and hip injuries.

A frustrated Dwight Howard says the Lakers simply have to continue fighting in order to survive. Per Yahoo! Sports:

“We’ve had a rough year, but we’re not going to hang our heads,” said Lakers center Dwight Howard, who is dealing with back and shoulder injuries, after a 102-91 loss Wednesday night. “Guys will go down, but we’re still a team and still have a great opportunity in front of us. We just can’t lose our faith, with guys getting banged up. With guys falling, other guys will step up and play. It hurts to see people go down. We’ve had guys go down all year. But we’ve still got to stay strong. We’ve still got to believe.”

[Mike] D’Antoni noticed after Game 2 that his players’ “emotions are down right now,” but offered hope in the fact that the next two games are in Los Angeles. “If you want to do anything, Friday is a big game,” D’Antoni told his players.

Metta World Peace told the media that the Spurs may be less talented, but they play with a lot more confidence.

As the series shifts to Los Angeles, the Spurs will need Tony Parker to continue with his offensive assault — the star point guard scored 24 of his 28 points in the second half last night, and says his body is starting to feel a whole lot better. That’s bad news for a Laker team that can ill afford any more of it.

Looking like a sweep in the making.

    What a surprise.

If the Gimp and Rent-A-Center want respect, now is the time to earn it. Horry Jr’s not out there to hog the ball. He’s somewhere curled up with a good book.

“Metta World Peace told the media that the Spurs may be less talented..” wait, what?

  • i_ball

Manu looks like he is getting back to normal

I was kinda hoping LAL wouldn’t suffer anymore injury setbacks in the Playoffs and that our bad luck finally ran out……..FML.

Still believe LAL can win atleast one game even with this version of Nash if Meeks and Blake are healthy and can play both games at home.

hate to say it but that’s called denial.

It looks like L.A. is going to roll over and play dead. They know how to get excited when its time to cash them checks though.

Tip my hat to the Lakers. They’re doing all they could to hang on. However, it could translate to more individual performance rather than team chemistry. Yeah, I guess team chemistry was what lacking all year long. All the stars can ball. Just that like someone once said, basketball isn’t a ball played by five people, but a game where five people are playing together as one.

I’m confused do you love or hate Kobe? For someone who hates him you sure do talk about him alot, even when he’s not playing.

  • shockexchange

    tina,

If the man is curled up with a good book ( http://clicky.me/7aZp ), and it’s true then how does that make the Shock Exchange a hater?

  • RayJr

Bad luck is the theme of the season. None of those guys are healthy and he Lakers are dropping like flies in the worse time of the year. Looked like the Spurs would be a great matchup for them but when you can’t go into battle with all your troops its always gonna be tough to win. I dont think they would get swept but winning the series is really not going to happen.

  • LP

2nd time in 3 years getting swept ???? rebuild!!!!!!! Amnesty everyone except for Jordan Hill and REBUILD!

  • Lloyd

Too early to grab the brooms? On a separate note, anyone got any updates on T-Mac? He was listed as “Inactive” the past couple of games. I haven’t been paying attention to the Spurs bench. Is he there and not suited up or just M.I.A. completely?

  • spit hot fiyah

yeah i didn’t get that part either, then again, i don’t get most of the things he says

  • playa

‘“If you want to do anything, Friday is a big game,” D’Antoni told his players.’

Motivational speaking, obviously, is not one of Mike’s strong points.

Naw, Manu was actually struggling a lot when he was “healthy” during the regular season. I truly believe that the injury was bothering him

  • The Seed

Sweep is coming, I stated this from day one and I am a Laker fan. Is this really a surprise.

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Sanchez

well… imo hes been alright for some time.

  • Yi-Cheng Chen

This playoffs for the Lakers has no point after Kobe went down because he brought them to the playoffs. This is really a waste of time for everyone unless Kobe’s back.

  • MUBWAR

jordan hill loooooooool. and they can only amnesty 1 player dude
