San Antonio Spurs Sign Tracy McGrady For Remainder of Season

The San Antonio Spurs have signed Tracy McGrady for the remainder of the ’12-13 season because, sure, why not? (And, yes, he is Playoff eligible.) Via Yahoo! Sports‘ Adrian Wojnarowski:

EYYY!! I hope he gets some pt, I know he’s old.. but one of my alltime favourite players, if there’s any coach in the league I trust to use Tracy McGrady correctly its Pop.

By replacing Stephen Jackson with Tracy McGrady……..the Spurs got younger.

  • Caboose

    That’s nuts….

  • Caboose

How awesome would it be for T-Mac to win a ring?

  • Max

TP, Manu, TMac and TD. Would be a helluva team in 06.

Can he play in the playoffs?

  • LLC#12

Have the Spurs just cursed themselves to not get out of the 1st round?

  • LakeShow

Probably will play 22 mins in the playoffs. Total.

  • Anthony Dixon

    NOW we need Iverson.

  • Ganchan

You sign the one guy that dropped 13 in 35 on you Pop! Forgive but never forget I guess…

Wow!!! This came out of nowhere! Glad he’s back though!

  • LLC#12

Only kidding, T-mac has been averaging over 30 minutes a game this season in the CBA in 29, so I’m glad he has kept himself relatively healthy and injury free, and I’m curious to see how much he can contribute. 25ppg in the cba must translate to around 10 in the NBA. That Spurs roster just got even deeper.

yup, as long as you are not on an NBA roster after March 1, you are eligible for playoffs.

  • RayJr

SAS is looking desperate for wins these days.
Wait…rest of the regular season? So just for the last game?

  • KingBenjamin

Yeah he can, since he hasn’t played for an NBA team this whole season.

This could be his first playoff series win right? The only time the rockets won with him I think he was injured. I might be wrong, and i’m too lazy to look it up.

  • Rockwell

Now he can finally make it out of the first round!

  • Kadavour

  • Kadavour

I thought the Lakers were gonna get him

  • RayJr

    AND Stephon Marbury! lol

  • ‘Bout It

At the least this man is finally going to the second round! Or have the Spurs just jinxed themselves…

  • the_unknown

i guess they don’t wanna get out of the first round this year, huh?

  • Brandon Allen

  • Reedo

How funny would it be if the Spurs dont get out the first round, They tanked to get away from LA but Houston isn’t going to just roll ever.

  • RayJr

They definatey tanked and still might see the Lakers.

  • palo

glad for him..make the most of your chance Tmac! you might not get another..

  • http://twitter.com/apowellAdvocate Allen Powell II

    Man, that’s an interesting rule.

  • mikejones

Q rich and now Tmac, It is now time for the lakers to sign Allen Iverson, it needs to happen.

  • nike_head

*Be on a team that wins a first round series.
One step at a time my friend.

  • Slick Ric

    Francis? lol

  • IDOT

T-Mac was playing like it was the early 2000′s in China. Lets see how he will do in the playoffs.

  • Xena

He has already accomplished that with the 2008-09 Houston Rockets team when they defeated Portland in the 1st rd and took LA to 7 games in the 2nd rd before losing to them. McGrady only played 35 games that season though and he didn`t play at all that postseason due to injuries.

  • Caboose

The only way I’d see it really defending anything would be if there was a huge rivalry in the first round (say Celts-Heat), the Heat win and play Brooklyn in the 2nd round, and the Celts release a good role player who then instantly signs with the Heat…I guess?

They are only gonna use him in the last 35 seconds

  • http://www.facebook.com/hieustontex Hieu Nguyen

    well done.

  • Anthony Dixon

  • KNICKSforever

    2006 Spurs vs 2006 Knicks
TP, Manu, Tmac Tim Duncan, vs. Jason Kidd, Rasheed Wallace, Marcus Camby, Carmelo Anthony, Kenyon Martin, Amare Stoudemire, Tyson Chandler, Jr SMith.

  • Mariano

Shows how young the Spurs have gotten when more than half the roster was still in college/HS in 2006

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Sanchez

i like this move. im pulling for the spurs over LA lol

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni Sanchez

the curse? nooooooo haha almost forgot bout that

  • russian guy

When he was with the Pistons I was surprised how well he still could create for others. He might contribute in a Manu Ginobili type way.(Of course way past his prime Manu)

  • http://twitter.com/Hamish6cool Hamish Quayle

Thats gonna make a good combo!lol

  • http://www.facebook.com/JeffreyW23 Jeff W

cuz that stops ALL ball movement which is what the Spurs are known for and great at.

  • http://www.facebook.com/JeffreyW23 Jeff W

he had always been a great facilitator… the smarts dont leave you, my friend :)

  • http://twitter.com/HuwLHopkins Huw L Hopkins

Will he maybe make it past the first round now?

  • Anthony Dixon

i was talking for the league, not the spurs.

    Retuuuuuuuurn of the MAC!!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/starkpwnsyou Joshua Maria Peter Bautista

Gee, maybe Spurs management still haven’t moved on from those 13 seconds in Houston back in 06?

  • nike_head

Very true, I should have worded it differently.
