Derrick Rose Reportedly Strongly Considered Returning But Won’t

It seems like a foregone conclusion now that Derrick Rose won’t be suiting up at all this season, but according to CSN Chicago, the Chicago Bulls’ superstar point guard strongly thought about playing in the series against the Miami Heat, before deciding against it: “Rose’s torn knee ligament was repaired last May 12, which was a year ago Sunday. Despite erroneous reports that he was set to dress for Game 3, according to a person with knowledge of the situation, the former league MVP won’t return to the court in the series, something Thibodeau is aware of. However, at the outset of the second round, Rose did strongly consider coming back, but ultimately decided against it, another source said. While Rose’s absence looms over the series in the minds of fans and the media, Thibodeau said that not only did the Bulls anticipate the frenzy, but insists that it hasn’t affected the team. ‘That’s the way we approached it from the beginning of the year. I think from the outside, we knew it would be a big story. But from the inside, the way we view it is, we knew from the beginning of the season that there was a good chance that he would miss a big chunk of the season and the possibility of him missing the entire season,’ he explained. ‘He knew that from the beginning and the way we approached it — and it hasn’t changed one bit from the beginning — is the players that are available, concentrate on your daily improvement and the next improvement that we’re playing, get ready for the game. Let Derrick handle his rehab and then, hopefully at some point — whether it’s next week, next year — he’ll rejoin us. But for the guys who are here, we’ve got to get it done with what we have, and we have more than enough to win.’”

I am as big a fan of Derrick Rose as the next guy, but I still don’t get why he is taking so long to get back onto the court. I don’t think he will ever be as ready as he wants to be. That injury will always be in the back of his mind until he actually starts playing games.

Why not play 10 minutes a game, take over Teague’s spot in the current rotation and see how you go?

i will never be a bull fan as long as rose is on that team trade him next bon fire i will burn all his tshirts and will post it on youtube

I strongly considered using single ply to wipe my @$$ this morning, but didn’t.

Enough of this, D Rose can kill all the noise by coming out and saying himself he’s done for this year. Thibs can say it’s not a distraction all he wants, but it is.

  • pposse

Gotta question…in the hierarchy of NBA ball players, where do you think D Rose ranks himself amongst all active players?

  • LLC#12

The only thing keeping him out is his pride I think. Shame.

  • Max

    You do that bro!

    Lame.

People thought that Rose wouldn’t consider?

  • bike

Next up: Rose strongly considered his strong consideration to return but won’t and decided to announce his strong consideration to another source despite serious misgivings.

  • airs

    um, cool. thanks?
    enough of this already.

man, it was decided in like February that he wasn’t going to play at all this year.

  • ThaWindy

I believed Rose said he wasn’t coming back until he was 110%.
I said to myself then he’s not coming back til next season.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

yeah, people around the team have been sure he isn’t coming back for a while now. idk why they haven’t just come out and said it tho. maybe they like the attention being on Rose, instead of on how they don’t have a chance, idk.

  • ThaWindy

I think he just wants to error of the side of caution.

  • spit hot fiyah

    for real

  • spit hot fiyah

so he will never play since 100% is maximum. bummer

  • Wall Ball

It’s his choice! He’s a franchise player. If he doesn’t feel comfortable coming back now it’s his choice. How can another grown man get upset by another man’s decision for his life. That’s like me getting upset because one of you guys din’t come to work. You’re a fan and a fair weather one at that if you burn his jerseys and stop watching the games. You’re emotional. Calm down. When he returns I’ll be there watching. He’s vowed to be better than ever and I believe him. You guys are all upset for your own selfish reasons. You can’t control that man. The only thing you can control is what you do with your time!

we don’t need you to be a bulls fans either….

I knew for a long time this hype of him coming back was for nought. And how about we stop with the speculation and actually make a news story when he really comes back.

  • WhiteMamba

    White Mamba? :)

  • bike

I’m guessing he thinks he’s right behind LeBron whom no one can argue is the best right now.

  • Redd

In a physical game..? Na doesn’t make sense to. Would’ve made sense Game 3 but not anymore.

  • Redd

    As was I Newton.

  • Justiiin

Nate Robinson is puking in a bucket on the bench in the middle of a game and DRose is like, naaaaaahhhh I’m just going to sit here. My brothers are making me.

  • dookie

    I wouldn’t have a clue. I don’t really have a personal relationship with him.

  • dookie

I am not necessarily talking about playing in this series. Why didn’t he run around during garbage time at the end of the regular season and see how he felt?

I don’t blame him though. If I could, I would also use “not mentally ready” as an excuse to get away from work lol.

  • Lance

As much as I respect rose’ decision, I think everyone is letting him off the hook a little here. he has made millions off the city of Chicago, and past influential players have played through injury numerous times. the fact that rose can sit out there and watch his teammates give so much effort, and that not bring enough out of him to get back on the court tells a tale on his character. Do you think LeBron or Kobe, or even Russell wouldn’t come back if the doc gave them the green light. No way not even a possibility in my mind. So by my account rose is not of the caliber of a leader. while he has every right to sit there and do nothing. he does not deserve to rank himself among the best in the game right now, at least not at this point.

  • flud

Patience. it’s something a surprising amount of players don’t have. along with half the comments here…. Shump’s knee is at him. Patience people.
