Dwight Howard Reportedly Torn Between the Lakers and Rockets

You’re not going to believe this, but the famously indecisive Dwight Howard is have a hard time making a decision between Los Angeles and Houston. According to USA Today, Howard can’t quite pick between staying with the Lakers or joining the Rockets this summer: “The Lakers have a Dwight Howard crisis on their hands and are facing a summer that may wind up even more disappointing than their underachieving season. The big man who so badly wanted to be there, who pushed his way out of small-market Orlando in order to shine under the brightest of lights in the biggest of markets, is having second thoughts again as his free agency looms. Despite all signs pointing to his Lakers return late in the season, the star whose infamous indecisiveness led to his Orlando saga being dubbed ‘The Dwightmare’ is – according to a person with knowledge of his situation – torn between the idea of Laker life or the notion of joining a Houston Rockets club that looks so much more appealing with James Harden & Co. in tow. [...] The Lakers, who hoped Howard’s return would help bridge the gap to a new era that could be kickstarted in the summer of 2014 when they have so much salary cap space and may not have Kobe Bryant, are flirting with quite a fallout here. General manager Mitch Kupchak had already urged Howard to choose quickly in the days after the season ended with a first-round sweep by the San Antonio Spurs, informing Howard that he’d be holding up the team’s business if he waited until the official free agency period in early July to make up his mind.”

Rent-A-Center just click your heels three times and repeat “There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home.” Whatever city you wake up in, then that’s who you should sign with.

  • http://www.facebook.com/devin.williams1 Dev

I dont think LA is in that bad a shape if he leaves for nothing

  • Redd

I’d be happier if he stayed in LA, I hate the Rockets.

  • Dagger

So he’ll sign with LA then ask to be traded to the Rockets halfway through the season.

  • shockexchange

And of course, it’s all about you. < "That's that ish he don't like."

  • Caboose

Dwight would do fantastic under McHale. Their system would be exactly what the Magic tried to do in 09, but with the perimeter scoring option (Harden) Orlando never had. A Lin Harden Garcia Parsons Dwight starting 5 with Asik, Beverly, and Robinson off the bench looks a lot like that old Magic team, just better at almost every position.

  • zogs19994

    DWIGHT IS LEAVING 100%.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Idk what would happen with Asik if Howard stays. He just led the league in rebounding. I don’t think him becoming a backup is the best use of resources. I would assume they look into trading him for a PG or PF.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

LOL, narcissists saying things like this are my favorite.

  • shockexchange

And “Catch Fade1″ appears, right on cue … as the theme from “Jeopardy” plays ad infinitum …

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

and out of work barber sounds like he needs a new jukebox in his barbershop. i don’t like listening to jeopardy as i get my hair cut.

  • RKJ92

Or they will just play Dwight at the PF position and Asik at center which is most likely what they will do considering how big Asik’s contract is, and having no other big men better to start over Asik as well.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Asik’s contract is not big. It really isn’t. It averages out to 7 mill a season. And having him and Dwight on the floor together takes Houston right out of what they do. You can’t have 2 bigs who can’t shoot in an offense reliant on spacing and pace.

  • RKJ92

You know that, and I know that, but who’s gonna be able to make a suitable trade that will compliment the contract, and give them a player of the same talent at pg or pf. That’s the tough part :/

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Want me to come up with some options? You can tell me if any of them sound suitable.

  • Jimmy

if you two know that, GMs know that…

  • snasty10

    Dwightmare on Buss Street

  • RKJ92

Yes saaaaaa, to be honest that would be pretty cool

Charlotte comes to mind, they have flexible cap space. A need at center, and a draft pick they should be willing to trade.

  • Max

Kind of like Gortat but some more court time.
    Dwight fouls alot.

  • Max

Asik and draft picks for Ryan Anderson?

  • http://twitter.com/niQknacks niQ

    Dwight the Indecisive.

  • RKJ92

Not worth it Rockets getting robbed in that deal

  • RKJ92

And water is wet.. what a pointless comment.. lol

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Just options if you think they are unrealistically, just say so. Nobody is going to get offended.

    - Omer Asik to Philadelphia / Spencer Hawes & 11th Pick to Houston

    - Omer Asik to Dallas / Roddy Beaubois, Jae Crowder, & 13th Pick to Houston

    - Omer Asik, Carlos Delfino, Royce White to Boston / Paul Pierce & 16th Pick to Houston

    - Omer Asik to Portland / Will Barton, Victor Claver, & 10th Pick to Houston

  • Markus437

Right on the dot with that 09 magic comparison as that team was missing a guy who could create his own shot on the perimeter. (Partly why they traded for VC back then). I think the biggest selling point for Dwight to come to the rockets is to play with asik so as the team doesn’t completely fold if Dwight’s in foul trouble or is injured and a starting level Center can fill his void with ease

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i don’t think they would offer that high a draft pick for Omer Asik

  • Lloyd

I think he wants to play in Houston, but see him staying with the Lakers because he wants to be liked. Dwight’s a needy dude.

  • https://twitter.com/jasontichenor Mr. Wet

you are most likely correct. But it’s not too far out of the ballpark I don’t think.

  • danpowers

id love to see him in houston with harden, that would be a very exciting team.

  • J.KING-HOOPS

question for the comment section. so if Dwight goes to the rockets what do you guys think the lakers should do in free angency?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i kinda of do. You think Omer Asik is worth Victor Oladipo?

  • https://twitter.com/jasontichenor Mr. Wet

I was more meaning other pieces would be needed to make it happen. I don’t think he worth a straight up trade.

  • Caboose

That last trade is ugly for Houston. Lin, Asik, and a 2nd rounder for Jameer, Nicholson, and Harkless.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

but Houston doesn’t have any other valuable pieces. It’s not like Patrick Beverely or Terrence Jones really make a difference in that type of deal.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

well, assuming that trade happens on draft night, it could be…..

    .

    Asik for Barton/Claver/Cody Zeller.
    .
You think of a better 4 to have next to Dwight than Cody Zeller?

  • http://www.facebook.com/starkpwnsyou Joshua Maria Peter Bautista

Sign somebody with their MLE or look for trades to improve the bench, because that’s been their glaring weakness for years.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

why would Houston want Jameer Nelson? he’s essentially Jeremy Lin but older and with less trade value.

  • Max

    Ryan Anderson with Dwight tho.

  • bike

Wonder if Dwight and Bynum ever get together, have a few beers, and high five each other laughing and chanting ‘we somthin’ ain’t we? got dam we somthin’!’

  • Max

AD and Dwight would be beastly if AD develops that mid.

  • Caboose

Lakers get: Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin, Jason Thompson, John Salmons
Rockets get: Steve Nash, Marcus Thornton, Robert Sacre
Kings get: Pau Gasol, Royce White, 2014 Rockets 2nd Rounder

Lakers: Lin, Bryant, Salmons, Thompson, Asik with Blake, Meeks, Metta, and Jamison off the bench
Rockets: Nash, Harden, Garcia, Parsons, Howard with Beverly, Thornton, and Robinson off the bench
Kings: Thomas, Tyreke, Johnson, Gasol, Cousins with Jimmer, Douglas, and Hayes off the bench

  • playa

Houston looks better,,,,for now, but if he really thinks he’ll be no 1 option with Harden on that team he is MISTAKEN.

  • TR

Dwight looked like a buster at times this year and somewhat like the old Dwight at times. I’m just curious as to who he will be going forward.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

that is the most ridiculous trade i have ever seen you submit on this website.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    AD?

  • Caboose

Rockets get: Paul Millsap, DeAndre Jordan, Chauncey Billups
Jazz get: Eric Bledsoe, Francisco Garcia
Clippers get: Jeremy Lin, Omer Asik, Thomas Robinson

Rockets: Billups, Harden, Parsons, Millsap, Dwight with Jordan, Beverly, and Delfino off the bench
Jazz: Bledsoe, Williams, Hayward, Favors, Jefferson with Tinsley, Garcia, and Kanter off the bench
Clippers: Paul, Crawford, Butler, Griffin, Asik with Lin, Robinson, and Barnes off the bench

  • Caboose

    Lol, so?

  • Caboose

Friends with Dwight, and Nicholson/Harkless are the main points.

wait i thought they didn’t like each other? remember Jameer started saying sh*t before Dwight left……
    .
and i know who the meat of the deal is about. I just don’t think Nelson / Lin need to even be involved.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

idk but can i take part in the polling next year?

I swear we need commenting awards.

My thoughts exactly. Cody has a better midrange jumper and has a high motor.

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/savagemuzicgroup T-Ray

We should vote commenting awards like the NBA. MVP, DPOY, ROY, etc.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

ehhhhhhhhh, who would vote? Not us.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

haha idk man, i’m not a big fan, it’s not like we can argue about the awards like we can in the NBA. there are no commenting stats other than totals.

    Just can’t vote for yourself.

I think it would be pretty tight if structured properly.

Oh so that’s your plan. Let us do the work and if it excels take credit. Well played sir. Well played.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i want no credit. i don’t want any credit about anything, i just want respect. which is part of why i like arguing, lol.

  • Sergio

I severely disagree. You are all forgetting how good were Torkoglu and Lewis before they got catch with PEDs. No way in hell Garcia or Parsons are better than them in 09. Also, Nelson and Alston were, to me, also better than Lin. The only advantage (altough a huge one) would be Harden.

  • Sergio

    Totally agree.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Orlando had that and Dwight was extremely unhappy.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Chauncey Billups is not an NBA level basketball player anymore.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

and Daryl Morey would avoid DeAndre Jordan like the f*cking plague man.

  • http://www.reverbnation.com/savagemuzicgroup T-Ray

Lol I’m playing fam but it would be cool if we could have it and actually debate the results.

  • Max

    Anthony Davis.

  • RKJ92

Sorry for getting back late I had to step out for a bit…

1rst trade: Omer Asik to Philadelphia / Spencer Hawes & 11th Pick to Houston — Steal for Houston Spencer Hawes shows flashes of beastlyness (ya made it up) from time to time when he keeps his ass in the post out to 15 feet.. and 11th pick is just icing on the cake for Houston..

2nd trade: Omer Asik to Dallas / Roddy Beaubois, Jae Crowder, & 13th Pick to Houston — This I feel is a bit more fair Dallas gets size, and youth; whereas Houston gets 2 young guards (Roddy obviously with a tonne of potential) and I feel the 13th pick is what makes this deal complete considering the guards aren’t still fully proven.

3rd trade: Omer Asik, Carlos Delfino, Royce White to Boston / Paul Pierce & 16th Pick to Houston — I absolutely hate it.. Paul Pierce is too streaky now offensively, and his defense is ya umm.. :) I feel your essentially trading Omer Asik, Delfino, and Royce White, for a draft pick lol

4th Trade: Omer Asik to Portland / Will Barton, Victor Claver, & 10th Pick to Houston — again I hate this trade too, I feel that Will Barton, and Victor Claver are stiffs/busts just unproductive to their teams, and a low ceiling. Your essentially trading Omer Asik for a draft pick again lol. If that draft pick is Tyler Zeller though I would pull the trigger immediately.

I appreciate you taking time to compile these btw, thank you!

  • Redd

…I’m making an opinionated comment..you’ve been talking in 3rd person too long, you’re a full on dumba** now.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

yeah the draft pick trades would take place on draft night. And the Rockets would essentially know who they are getting. With Portland i was assuming Cody Zeller would be available.
    .
Pierce is definitely regressing. But he had a productive season, and he spent the majority of it as the only player on the roster who could create for himself. In Houston, for the first time in years, he would get to be a second option, luxury offensive option. Rather than a necessity.
    .
And defensively he would fit right in. James Harden is a flaming trainwreck defensively. Jeremy Lin is pretty awful in most situations although he has active hands and hustles his ass off. Wouldn’t be much of a big deal. Especially considering Dwight is an upgrade over Asik.

  • retrobat

Hold up. You want to give up Nicholson and Harkless? I’m happy to get rid of Nelson, but we already have Vucevic, so why do we need Asik? That seems like an overall bad deal for the Magic. Harkless seems like he has some real potential.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

lol Dwight will never play in New Orleans.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

that would be my play no matter what team i was if i had Dwight. Zeller is probably a top 7 player in this draft. And you can get him on the cheap right now. He’s going to develop nicely, imo.

  • shockexchange

What next? You’re going to lobby for a new commenting system? Oh … you did that last year this time. Ain’t that right?

  • Redd

You’re an idiot..we all lobbied for that. If you remember correctly, I suggested the comment system from IGN (Disqus).

You’re annoying but entertaining still, keep up the monkey antics.

Total Rebounds. Rebounding. Whatever. I wasn’t calling him the best rebounder in the league, I was just giving a blatant reason why he isn’t just going to be a backup.

yeah i mean i would like to see what people think, but i wouldn’t really take part in the debate portion.

I just realized if he went back to Orlando, all of this would seem like a bad dream instead of reality. And the Magic are gonna be scary good after this years draft. Dwight, you effed up man. Lakers sucked you into a black hole dude. Lick your wounds and jet outta tinsletown. Your best teammate is Earl Clark (Kobe was not Dwight’s teammate, more like an arrogant stepfather) and he gets zero respect. Plus D’Antoni thinks you’re a child. Child please.

He’s torn. LOL Sure he is…. He’s already gone.

Agree. He would be a better fit there especially with the youth and Harden!! McHale would coach better with the Big Men than D’antoni.

  • SixftShaq

    its

  • Jay

    This guy needs

  • Jay

This guy needs to stop worrying about what people think about him and man up and make his mind. As a Laker fan I don’t necessarily think we NEED a person who has shown nothing but immaturity, entitlement, and indecisiveness during this entire process as our next franchise player. I don’t think any player in the history of the NBA has made such a big deal about his Free Agent status, not even Lebron. Lebron never held his teams hostage nor put his coaches and teammates on blast. Dwight got SVG fired, and still left Orlando and now is complaining about Pringles because he wasn’t included as a leader. You have to earn your stripes in this league Dwight, and you haven’t earned a damn thing yet; you are no leader. Dwight is an attention whore. If he walks, good riddance. He will be forever labeled as a quitter and a brat.

  • danpowers

true, i just mean turkoglu was capable to create his own shot and when needed he showed that every once in a while. but yeah, we mainly saw pick and rolls by them back then, iso ball sucks anyway, ask a knick lol.

maybe i as a german overestimate his shot making ability because of an old trauma…. old story: germany played turkey in the eurobasket 2001 and led 70-67 with a handfull of seconds to go. instead of tactically fouling him the german player ademola okulaja tried to defend his shot: (at 2:36) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTYx8jQqdHE
turkey then went on to win the game in overtime. since then we germans hated and feared him for many years. he burned himself into our collective basketball memory lol

  • danpowers

he has shown you guys 17,1ppg 12,4rpg 2,4bpg shooting 57,8% from the field while never being really healthy or comfortable with the offense. when healthy he is the most dominant “center” in the nba and already took a team to the finals on his shoulders. why shouldnt he ask for a larger role on offense?
i agree that he is a pain in the a*s by being dumb like a mofo

  • Stinka

Dwight will not be happy anywhere…I’m convinced. When the going gets rough, he whines.

  • JL

If Asik and D12 team up nobody would score in the paint against that team.

  • TwelveInchFinch

Why cant they play together? Asik has shown himself to be one of the best passing big men in the league, just move Dwight to the 4 and keep it moving

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

In Houston? Because they need a stretch 4 to make their system work. You can’t have an offense reliant on spacing and pick and rolls with two big men who literally can’t hit a shot outside 10 feet.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

  • TwelveInchFinch

You sound like D’Antoni. Coaching is supposed to be about maximizing the talents of your players, not making players fit to your “system”. You dont pass on getting the at-worst 3rd best center in the league because he doesnt fit your “system”

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Is reading this difficult? I said they will trade Asik. Because HE doesn’t fit the system with Dwight. .
And no, you don’t change your already built upon system, shaped around your roster, for Omer Asik. .
    Please read better.

  • hollis

as a lifelong lakers fan, i just want Coward gone.

  • TwelveInchFinch

Why would they trade Asik when theyve already said theyre moving Robinson to free up more cap space? You seem quick to move Asik when Houston clearly targeted him, pretty sure theyre not going to flip the anchor of their defense for an inferior defender

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Simple, They don’t have Howard yet. They value Asik more than Robinson.
