Dwight Howard to Consider Hawks and Warriors in Free Agency

Despite so much uncertainty and controversy, the Los Angeles Lakers remain confident in their ability to retain center Dwight Howard. Nevertheless, suitors for the big fella’s services include the Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets, and now, there’s word of Howard considering the Golden State Warriors and Atlanta Hawks as possible free agent destinations. Per the LA Daily News: “I’m optimistic,’ Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak said. ‘Just look at what we have to offer.’ Kupchak then ticked off the Lakers’ championship history, the team’s fan base and the ‘lifestyle’ Los Angeles affords. He also alluded to the Lakers’ financial leverage. Howard can sign with the Lakers for five years and $118 million or go somewhere else for four years and $88 million. The NBA’s labor deal devised five-year deals to boast annual raises worth 7.5 percent of the first-year’s salary, as opposed to four-year deals that have 4.5 percent raises. Howard wouldn’t have to pay state income taxes for home games if he played for the Houston Rockets or Dallas Mavericks. Kupchak also believes Howard will co-exist with head coach Mike D’Antoni, whom Kupchak has said will return next season. ‘I have absolute and complete confidence,’ Kupchak said. ‘Players don’t have to like coaches. They just have to play hard. In L.A., our coaches get evaluated on wins and losses and not whether our players like them or don’t like them.’ Kupchak won’t have clarity on Howard’s future anytime soon. A source familiar with Howard’s thinking says he plans to test free agency and has considered the Lakers, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta and Golden State. Nothing remains binding, though. The source added Howard’s main concern involves ‘what team he feels has the best chance to win championships, has the best team and system around him.’ The source also stressed Howard has not and will not ask the Lakers to make any moves on his behalf. Kupchak acknowledged the team has made unspecified contingency plans in case Howard leaves. Either way, Howard can’t officially re-sign until July 10 when a moratorium on NBA business is lifted.”

Stay away from the Warriors, Dwight.

  • davidR

do not come to the bay

  • i_ball

    Can the Warriors afford him?

  • Nick

I’m a Warriors fan. No thank you.

  • Ducksource

Breaking news: Dwight Howard to also consider the following teams: Celtics, Nets, Knicks, 76ers, Raptors, Bulls, Cavs, Pistons, Pacers, Bucks, Hawks, Bobcats, Heat, Magic, Wizards, Nuggets, T-Wolves, Thunder, Blazers, Jazz, Warriors, Clippers, Lakers, Suns, Kings, Mavs, Rockets, Grizzlies, Pelicans and Spurs…

  • RayJr

Dwight needs to tell Mitch: It’s me or D’Antoni. Plain and simple. The two together will never work.

On-court, I’d love to see what he brings to the Warriors. But, no.

  • iskemberlu

Howard out for the season with a torn Brain

  • davidR

if he wasn’t happy with all those shooters taking shots from him in orlando, he will definitely be miserable on the dubs

  • Wade H

I guess the offer would be limited money on the first year, but 2nd and 3rd year after AB and Rj’s contact expired they would offer him ridiculously among of money.

  • bike

Dwight is also considering joining the circus. Elephants, cotton candy, and freaks of nature are cited as his reasons.

  • http://www.facebook.com/starkpwnsyou Joshua Maria Peter Bautista

I forgot, he wants to be the man. Well, he might average 20rpg on the dubs tho, but come on its not gonna happen. The Warriors are good as they are now and probably will challenge OKC for West supremacy in the next 3-4 years.

Having Steph Curry and Klay Thompson shooting around Dwight Howard?? I came…

Wouldnt he still be the 4th option here behind Curry, Thompson and Lee?

    nice

  • anon

these rumors are killing me. i feel like he would kill the chemistry in the locker room

  • LakeShow

As much as his attitude and personality stink, he would kill with those guys if they played together.

Basically your saying no to a championship… Unless your hoping Bogut will return to prime….

  • LakeShow

I’ll say the same to you Davey:

As much as his attitude and personality stink, he would kill with those guys if they played together.

Basically your saying no to a championship… Unless your hoping Bogut will return to prime….

  • davidR

i have no doubts on what he can bring on the court. but if he had issues with all those shooters on the magic, how would he feel about playing with curry and klay (and possibly david lee)? would he constantly pout?

would anyone on the dubs be able to tame his ego (aside from coach jackson)? there’s a lot of questions with the dubs’ future squad, but they play with a lot of heart. dwight isn’t exactly the type to rally the troops

    LOL

    this sounds more believable

    No thank you Dwight.

We don’t want you ruining this teams great chemistry.

    i hope your right.

  • http://twitter.com/Jzakoni D dot Sanchez

    hahah

  • Sergio

What DH wants most: win a championship or be the man? If its the former, then why in hell would he consider choosing the Hawks?

  • Markus437

I like how this is in order by divisions lol

  • LakeShow

    I see your point.

I just think this is one of those ones where the risk is worth it.

He would probably love the Bay and it’s fans. The team is fun and his coach can help him with his God stuff lol.

They technically speaking fit incredibly well together.

Both built for eachother to succeed. The question as you said is would Dwight be happy which is partially key.

Probably not, but that doesn’t mean he can’t still give you 20-14-3… Something Bogut will never do. (coming from a Bogut fan)

  • davidR

i get you. seeing how much better the dubs are (defensively) with bogut on the floor, we can only imagine how good they would be with dwight.

however, on the offensive end is where my concerns would lie. bogut is useful because of his passing ability and court vision. he meshes well with david lee and the rest of the team because he’s able and willing to pass. he seems to also have more go to reliable go to moves when he needs to score. basically, he can play with the team.

dwight is a turnover machine, demands the ball despite not having any reliable post moves (he was getting a lot better his last year in orlando. not sure if the injury really was hampering him in la or if he just regressed), and isn’t good at passing. there’s also the free throw issue.

so yea. it would be a risk to me. the contract he would command would also really hurt the depth chart. something that’s important considering curry’s injury history

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

doesn’t matter. Dwight can’t go to GS. He doesn’t know anything about the salary cap apparently.

  • LakeShow

What… They can’t just get rid of Bogut and another contract?

  • LakeShow

Great points my friend. I’m just trying to shop Howard.
I’m done with him lol ;)

  • LakeShow

    Durr Hurr!

  • playa

Dwight Howard is a woman, he doesnt know what he wants, but he wants it NOW

  • davidR

lol we don’t want your trash!

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Nah, they have Jefferson and Biedrins making a combined 20 mill next season. With Curry – Bogut – Lee making over 30 combined.

  • LP @ThisisEther

You guys have let the last 2 years fool you. This guy is still the best big in the league…

  • davidR

they should’ve amnestied biedrins instead of charlie bell. they gotta reup on jack too

  • http://www.facebook.com/jay.brodes Jay Brodes

if he leaves the lakers and i know he hates dantoni but he will look like a punk! peeps hated bron..howard will look 10X worse..he will never recover..Real Talk!

  • LakeShow

Oooh, damn, forgot about those fellas deep on the bench making all the money my bad lol.

  • Todd_the_Hunn

Dwight is is to whiny to be a filthy hawk . We’re growing talons baby ! Even though its a long shot I would kick puppies to see CPIII here .

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i don’t think they can keep Jack. i mean they can, but it will cost more than his salary in luxury tax money to do so.

  • Todd_the_Hunn

Because he is from Atlanta . Danny Ferry would have to make the pitch of his life to get him . He would also have to resign is homie Josh Smith . He will get a free meal and can sleep at Moms .

  • http://www.facebook.com/starkpwnsyou Joshua Maria Peter Bautista

I heard they’re starting a “Ankle Health Awareness” campaign in Oakland and San Francisco just to make sure of that.

  • davidR

yea, im not sure if they can keep him either unless they pull some magic. jack might’ve played himself into a higher salary and out of the team.

since the nba is so stacked with pg’s, what team can you think of that could use him as a starter, and feasibly sign him?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Milwaukee is where I am assuming he ends up at the moment. Dallas/Houston are other possibilities to use him as a starter.

  • whooo!

So I recall reading that the Spurs will have $20M at seasons end to spend, once Manu, Splitter, SJax are off the books. If HOU and GS are options, I would wonder if he’s smart enough to consider SA?

  • davidR

i can see him at dallas. houston too, although i do feel harden is a little too ball dominant which would kind of nullify jack’s usefulness with the ball.

have there been rumors of where jennings will end up?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

I have no idea what’s going to happen with Jennings. I’m just assuming he ends up in Dallas on a one year deal for like 10 million.

  • Sergio

Hahahahaha… I see. But he woudnt be winning chips any time soon.

  • Evan Harris

SJax was waived from the team, that’s how they signed T-Mac

  • Ed

Dwight Hoe-Ward. 200 € / hr or is it more?

  • http://www.facebook.com/jordan.pauley Jordan Pauley

I’m a Warriors fan. We’ll take him. Immediately.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jordan.pauley Jordan Pauley

G – Stephen Curry, G – Klay Thompson, F-Harrison Barnes, F-David Lee, C-Dwight Howard…. Bench: C-Andrew Bogut, (and whoever else). Coach – Mark Jacksonl Style – Defense first, pick & roll, screen and pop. I like! I like! I like!

  • http://www.facebook.com/jordan.pauley Jordan Pauley

    lmfao!

  • http://www.facebook.com/jordan.pauley Jordan Pauley

Idiot. Of course we want him. Are you kidding me?

  • http://www.facebook.com/jordan.pauley Jordan Pauley

Dude, the Warriors could easily pay the luxury tax for 1 season, with $50 million coming free the following one. Obviously, you can’t read a balance sheet.

  • davidR

    plead your case.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jordan.pauley Jordan Pauley

Money is not the issue. That problem will only exist for a season.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jordan.pauley Jordan Pauley

    Howard > Jack.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jordan.pauley Jordan Pauley

Doesn’t matter… Plenty of PG’s free this offseason. Devin Harris, Earl Watson, Mo Williams. Don’t make it a bigger deal than what it is.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jordan.pauley Jordan Pauley

His attitude is fine. We’ll take him. Go Warriors.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    WHAT
    .
Oh you don’t know what you’re talking about. Nevermind.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

you are an idiot. You have to have cap room to get a free agent dude.

  • LakeShow

Like all you want, not happening with both Bogut and Dwight.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

holy crap, are you just throwing your stupidity on everyone like feces?

  • LakeShow

LOL (One of the very few times I actually have laughed out loud, while writing LOL)

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

you don’t want to hear his case.

  • yourdribbleizcookiez

And in breaking news Dwight Howard is considering the Cuckamonga Cracker Killers as strong potential candidate in free agency this offseason. Their crafty team name was more then enough to persuade Dwight at their legitimacy as championship contenders for years to come.

nbk. why do you have to call people idiots if they dont agree with you? for someone that acts he knows it all and is so educated you resort to name calling at an astonishing rate.

  • Mike From Spain

Saying ‘Obviously, you can’t read a balance sheet.’ is in bad form… especially when it is not about a matter of judgement or agreement, but about factual information which Jordan Pauley apparently got wrong. I would probably not call the guy names, but it would surely rub me the wrong way.

  • Mike From Spain

If Minnessota gets rid of Ridnour and Barea, Jack is a good backup PG/6th man sparkplug off the bench. If they don’t make the right moves in the draft or free agency, Jack could also fill in at the 2 just like Ridnour and Barea do now. Is Jack an RFA?

  • backboard

yh, i see what you are saying mike. but still, my point stands. and calling people left and right is bad form as well and rubs ME the wrong way.

  • Mike From Spain

Fair enough… I would hate to be on the receiving end of the sarcasm.

  • Mike From Spain

    game , set and match

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

no he is UFA, but getting rid of Ridnour and Barea is much easier said then done. They are overpaid defensive liabilities in a PG league. David Kahn totally screwed the pooch.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

“Obviously, you can’t read a balance sheet.”
    .
    I respond. Honestly.

  • Mike From Spain

Urrghghghg… tell me about it, I read Canis Hoopus almost daily, I have an idea of DK’s antics and weird, to be charitable, roster management. It is very difficult that Flip makes a worse job, that is the consolation with the new GM.

To be fair, Ridnour has played out of position, defending bigger and stronger SGs, in his ‘ripe old age’ , with a bad back, and managed to be the most durable player in the Wolves roster. Nothing but compliments to the professionality of the guy, but he’s clearly limited phisically for an NBA starting guard in this day and age. Barea is very irregular, commands almost starter money, and is a 6th 7th player to come off the bench as an offensive spark-plug at best.

I guess that shipping out one of them packaged with a second round pick could make room for a more serviceable player, no offense intended to Ridnour or Barea, they are good but they are redundant in the Wolves roster.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

yeah i mean Ridnour was statistically the worst defensive PG in the league before he even came to Minnesota. So no matter what position he plays, he’s proven to be a significant liability on that end.
    .
if you do want to give them up, you better be ok with losing an asset. Those guys aren’t just going to get picked up by a team without Minnesota taking something awful back, or giving up something pretty damn good.

  • Mike From Spain

Even worse at D than Nash? :)

I want to dream that some GM thinks Derrick Williams is a worthwhile project , and he’d take Ridnour, Williams and the 50 somethingth pick that the Wolves have … maybe even the 26th would be worth giving up. I don’t know what kind of haul can be reasonably expected for that package.

If the Wolves manage to make room and make a run for him, what a good addition would Jack be

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

My dream for Minnesota would be (if i was rooting for them)
    - Nikola Pekovic, Derrick Williams, Luke Ridnour
    for
    - Larry Sanders, Luc Richard Mbah Amoute

  • Mike From Spain

A great rim protector and a serviceable defensive minded bench big for basically Pek and ballast. Tough to see Pek go like that though

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

ehh, Sanders is a multiple time DPOY type player. Shiiiiit if he can refrain from getting ejected 82 times he might win it next year.
