Kevin Durant Says He Has Peace After Losing to the Memphis Grizzlies

After missing an enormously important jumper in the dying moments of Game 5, Kevin Durant and the OKC Thunder went home for the summer. KD is proud of the competitive spirit OKC showed after Russell Westbrook’s season-ending knee injury, and says he can live with the disappointing results in these Playoffs. Per the Oklahoman: “Reggie Jackson’s 3-pointer with less than 20 seconds left pulled the Thunder within two and Zach Randolph’s missed free throws on the other end gave OKC one more chance to pull off the win. But Durant’s shot in the final seconds — like so many of his others in the game — was off the mark and Memphis held on for the win. ‘KD did a good job of getting open and catching the ball,’ Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. ‘He had a great look. That’s the shot we wanted.’ As the teams shook hands following the final buzzer, the remaining fans kicked up the chant of ‘O-K-C’ for one final time this season. Durant had his worst shooting night of the season, going 5 of 21 from the floor and finishing with 21 points. ‘I gave it all I had for my team,’ Durant said. ‘I left it all out on the floor.’ Durant seemed to wear down in the second half of Game 4 and his struggles continued early in Game 5. He missed seven of his eight first-quarter shots and never found an offensive rhythm. He played all 48 minutes, but neither Durant nor Brooks blamed the off night on Durant wearing down. Memphis coach Lionel Hollins thought Durant got tired, though. [...] ‘We had a really good season,’ Durant said. ‘It was a joy playing for these guys. It was a joy playing for this great city. We came up short. [...] ‘I have peace going through this run,’ Durant said. ‘We really had to come together. We’ve really seen us grow as a group. The only way it would be frustrating is if we came in with an attitude because Russ was out and we didn’t do that.’ [...] ‘Down the line, we’re going to look back at this and really appreciate it,’ Durant said of this rough patch. ‘Sometimes you’ve gotta ride out the storms to get to the sunshine.’”

I’m just waiting for headline “Durant Works Out with Tony Allen”

OKC better be happy they inked that extension with Westbrook before he got injured because they look awfully shaky without him. They would’ve had to give him a contract for 2 years, 100 billion dollars (dr evil voice)

  • spit hot fiyah

    don’t hold your breath

  • JML-G

Durants nerd ass trying to stay positive cause now everybody knows he cant carry a team on his own.. and once again Thunder gm/owners comes out as morons for not giving Harden the extension.. guess some people choose not to pay lux tax over gettin couple chips

  • bike

I don’t believe it. Not for a minute.

  • Paris Adolphus

He should be at peace about it. He did all he could. It’s the GM that should be worried about this. For all the good he’s done, he’s made two critical errors that were on display all season and in the playoffs: trading James Harden and not having a viable backup guard that can control the offense.

memphis did a great job defending durant period

  • speedy

You are a simple guy. Tell me !
Who could have carried this thunder team on his own against this Grizzlies team???
Do you think keeping Harden would have meant Championship? They would be closer, but if Ibaka and Perk get outplayed there is no way to get to the finals or a chip.

  • uqk

they could sign harden first & ibaka later…or just skip ibaka just sign minimum vet like birdman or kenyon, they’re doing well in heat/knicks…or just amnestied perkins :D

  • Blarmac

I think Jackson did ok, just needs to mature a little. It’s too bad Martin couldn’t step up and help take more defensive pressure off Durant. And I wish sometimes Ibaka would play as a true big man and stop shooting 18 footers.

Lmao Oklahomos suck without Westbrook. How did that Harden trade workout for ya? Oh yeah, you got OWNED in 5 games in the second round. Lmao some superstar KD is.

Enjoy ur Perkins, Ibaka, and Martin OKC! Lmaooo

We don’t know he can’t carry the team. It is not built for that right now. an important piece got injured.

  • KD

    Who is Tony Allen?

  • Mars

Peace? He misses Russ. Game 5 was like that Gatorade commercial for 4 qtrs.

  • Mars

Dump & Go get Josh Smith. Stop playing games

  • Pointed

At least he didn’t come second this year.

  • Sean B

I’ve always thought Sam Presti did an amazing job… but damn this Harden thing has blown up in his face. I think they panic traded Harden… they could have always played this season out and dealt with Harden during this Summer. It’s mind-boggling to me.

You need it more than us the way you have to push it on sports article comments.

  • Lloyd

Sometimes it’s easy to forget that this dude is only 24. Respect to KD…great season.

  • LP @ThisisEther

i think a summer sign-and-trade would be more difficult to get pieces back, they’d lose leverage….it was either trade early and get picks, young talent, and a decent player back or Trade during the summer and get next to nothing but MAYBE compete. You’d also have to deal with trade deadline rumors, dwightmare/Melodrama questions, etc etc for the whole season….I think they did alright to get young talent, decent talent in Kevin Martin, plus they have a pick coming up….

it all depends on what you want…… but its easy to say he made the wrong move now, we can monday morning Quarterback all day….

  • robb

Cheer up “nice guy”, at least you won’t be second this year!!!

  • Roger Rogers

lebron couldnt carry that OKC team with the way they were playing, get the hell out of here.

  • Mike From Spain

Perkins is the one holding the Thunder back. Ibaka is getting better but it looks like with Perk what you see is what you get.
