LeBron James Warns Pacers Miami is Not Just Another Team

by Marcel Mutoni / @ marcel_mutoni

Having vanquished the New York Knicks and reached the Eastern Conference Finals, Indiana Pacers head coach Frank Vogel was in full coach-speak and said the Miami Heat were just another team that’s in their way.

Naturally, reporters twisted up his words and presented them to LeBron James. The reigning MVP’s ears perked up and seemed to take offense to the suggestion that his defending champion Miami Heat were an ordinary opponent for the Pacers.

Per the Indy Star:

“It’s exciting, but this is not about getting back at Miami,” Vogel said as his two daughters sat on his lap. “If you’re in the final four you’re competing for a championship. And they’re just the next team that’s in our way. That’s how we’re approaching it.”

James took Vogel’s words to mean he was calling Miami just another team. “We’re not just another team,” James told Miami reporters on Sunday. “I don’t understand what he’s saying. But we’re not just another team. That’s not true. He said we’re just another team in their way. We’re a great team. If we’re just another team, you really don’t prepare for just another team. You have to prepare for us.”

You may recall that Frank Vogel’s mouth got him in trouble last year when these two teams met in the Playoffs, costing the Pacers’ head coach $15,000 for calling Miami the biggest floppers in the NBA. The Heat, of course, then went on to win the series in six games.

We’ll have to wait until Wednesday night for this on-court battle to finally start, but the war of words in clearly well underway.

    Shoutout to TMZ.

so LeBron wants teams to suck up to him and the Heat and say how great they are?… Lol

  • shockexchange

Shouldn’t the Heat “show and prove” to the Pacers through their play. For “The Kang” to even address Vogel’s comments shows he is concerned about the Pacers. Indiana is not on the Heat’s level, but if Miami doesn’t bring their A-game they can “get got.”

The Pacers do come off as a team with an un-earned sense of entitlement sometimes.
Not sure if it stems from youthful exuberance or if it’s all smoke and mirrors.

  • pposse

Paul George is the best defender left to try and cover Lebron

  • http://twitter.com/bjollz Björn Atli Davíðsson

Kawhi Leonard and Tony Allen are just as good.
edit: but I understand you’re talking about the east, my bad.

  • Dagger

It seems to me like both guys are just trying to motivate very different teams in different ways. No big deal.

  • shockexchange

Indiana lost their best player (Granger) and they are still in the ECF. Then Roy Hibbert is 7’2″ and actually playing big. Lack of size is the Heat’s achilles heel. That’s got to be a little unnerving.

  • http://twitter.com/Esquire_J Esquire J

They probably won’t get got because they not going to let Hibbert just sit in the lane bc they will put bosh as the 5 and the refs will probably call the defensive 3 seconds in this series

hopefully he can play his best and put fear in the hearts of the Miami New World Order.

  • danpowers

normally i respond to stuff like that with m. thatcher’s words “being powerful is like being a lady. if you have to tell people you are, you aren’t.” but i think in this case its just obvious that bron is right and i wonder why he even feels like stating the obvious in the first place.

  • MUBWAR

so far in playoff stats, heat have the best D, second best assist team and the Best O. add that the fact that a 4 outta of a possible 5 time mvp holder (rose got it cause lbj changed address) is starting at SF. comon the only concern for this group are the spurs. sorry indiana. heat in 5 at most 6

  • MUBWAR

forget to add efficiency & play making

  • Poop

If any team has a sense of un-earned entitlement it’s the Bulls.

And they played the Bucks and an exhausted Bulls team without Kirk and Deng.

that exhausted bulls teams went a combine 6-1 against the hawks and knicks (both of the pacers past opponents). pacers are gonna face a real challenge now

exactly, this is all I saw……

  • pposse

Lebron is foolish; he’s tryin to make it seem like he is mad and passionate but he just comes off as a tool with this quote

  • pposse

Hibbert has some offensive game, he has the potential to punish Chris Bosh in the post on the other end.

  • http://twitter.com/Esquire_J Esquire J

True but I just don’t think it will matter bc Miami is just so much better defensively

  • RKJ92

    hater.

Pacers have historically been a team not well-respected, but come playoff time, always have an edge to upset. This year, they definitely have the squad to make some noise. Just ask the Knicks how it felt to get bust’ in the mouth by Indiana. Hey LeBron, they can’t stop you, but the Heat can’t stop Born Ready and Roy Hightop. Yikes!

  • Caboose

Is “Kang” really the best Bron nickname you have?

  • Dagger

Than what? The Pacers? The Heat are great defensively, but the Pacers just put up one of the best defensive seasons of all time. It’s Indy’s offense that will probably end up costing them this series.

  • shockexchange

    “Kang James” says it all.

  • LeroyShonuff

Bulls with a “sense of un-earned entitlement” are you joking??? Seriously? Let’s see:
Best Record in the East for two of the past 3 years
Competing night in and night out with injuries that would cripple any team
Best defensive system in the league
Two players making the All-Star this year
Played a whole season without it’s best player and made the playoffs
Only team to beat Miami more than twice in 50 games
If that makes the Bulls entitled, then I guess hardwork means nothing

  • http://www.rich-imaging.com/ Dutch Rich

I disagree + I can’t talk ish about the Bulls for a while.

  • r13

LBJ has to understand that Vogel and the Pacers aren’t gonna bow down and kiss his royal ass. As a team they have to be confident and treat the heat like ‘just another team’ in the way because the Pacers have to feel like they are superior. Otherwise why show up. LBJ should know this but he is too in love with himself and the Heat, he feels like no one is allowed to stand in the way of their destiny. What a clown.

  • doomandgloom

They are a great regular season team. That’s it. That’s where the buck stops. They’ve managed 3 wins against the top team in the conference when it matters most. That’s where the discussion ends

technically, the miami heat IS just another team in the league. no need to crease that expanding forehead over this, lebron.

  • Michael Fang

Goodness people are blind. When this story was first reported I could still see an argument against what Lebron said but come on… The article itself says that Vogel’s words were twisted to make Lebron angry. If anything it’s the media’s fault for creating something out of nothing. Neither Vogel nor James were wrong in this case.

  • juanghettocruz

oh uh.. here comes the lebron hater.. at the end of season heat 2nd str8 champ and LJ finak mvp. so shut up bitches…
