Brooklyn Nets Reportedly Interested in Jason Collins

Free agent big man Jason Collins, the NBA’s first openly gay player, could be headed back to the Nets. Brooklyn is targeting Collins, according to Yahoo! Sports: “As the Nets bring Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry into the franchise via trade, the Nets need proven, dependable role players available at the veteran’s minimum price. Collins, 34, has close relationships with new Nets coach Jason Kidd and top assistant Lawrence Frank. They were together for seven successful seasons with the Nets when Frank was a coach, Kidd was the point guard and Collins provided a physical, defensive presence. There’s reason to believe that he’d have a strong comfort level returning to an organization that knows him well and values his tough, defensive-minded sensibilities. […] Garnett and Pierce played with Collins in Boston last season, and one Celtics source said that Garnett was extremely frustrated when Boston traded him to Washington at the February deadline. The Nets plan to re-sign backup center Andray Blatche to re-join starter Brook Lopez and Garnett in the frontcourt.”

They’re hiring everyone on the wrong side of 30

Man Collins is an old scrub. He once was a young scrub. Why to they try and make him sound like this great defensive presence? He comes in the game, hacks anyone that gets in the lane, then he sits down.

  • spit hot fiyah

hey, it worked for the knicks. wait, no it didn’t

  • JML-G

exactly.. bet he came out the closet just to stay in the league bit longer lol

Jason Collins is of no use on the court anymore. But he could provide a huge PR boost for many people.

The Heat should try signing him to stop America from hating them, or maybe Dwight Howard could try becoming best friends with him so people will forget he’s a selfish A-hole now, or maybe the Bobcats could sign him so that the gay community will become fans of theirs, or maybe he could reform the Sonics and become its one and only player.

  • LP @ThisisEther

Chris bosh and Jason Collins on the same team Won’t stop any hating anytime soon…… That’ll increase the slander by 5xs.

  • KingBenjamin

This is only news because he’s gay, what a shame.

  • Tuomas Uotila

Pound for pound the worst rebounder in history. Yay.

  • lights out

nothing wrong w having six more fouls to use.

  • Martin

Besides the PR move, for what? He is one of the worst centers of all time, jostling for position with Jon Koncak. Use to frustrate the hell out of me when Jason Kidd use to dish him the ball inside for an easy two and he would straight up miss. Maybe him and Kidd are cool. Pass

If somehow Dwight ends up on the East coast it makes sense from a basketball standpoint……but this is just an attention grab buy Porkhorov

  • Ugh

No way. Not while Brook Lopez is over 50lbs he’s not.

  • Ugh

Just a word from Slam’s only out and proud poster – The NY gay community aren’t going to pay for Nets tix to see the 12th man play 9 seconds every 15th game. And they’ll sell 5 unis for ironic puroposes to Billyburg hipsters – which they’ll split with 29 other teams. Nobody gives a f%^k.

  • rkirby

The Nets are the NBA’s version of the NY Jets, I swear

  • smith, stopped, smith blocked.

the fact to have to come out of the closet to draw the attention to get a contract when you’re a free agent is “gay.”

  • Bojangles

    Or Andrea Bargnani

  • Teddy-the-Bear

some people are stupid. how many? too many.

  • Dfrance

My thing is, are there no 7 foot hacks in the D League they can call up? A young, hungry cat with something to prove? Give someone else a shot.

Right, but None that would give the team good press. The Nets are basically the secondary Knicks. If not winning, as many eyes on them as possible
