Chris ‘Birdman’ Andersen Suspended For Shoving Tyler Hansbrough

The NBA upgraded Chris Andersen’s shove in Game 5 on Tyler Hansbrough to a Flagrant 2, and he will be suspended for Game 6 tonight against the Pacers. Hansbrough’s technical foul on that play was rescinded, too. From the NBA:

NEW YORK, May 31, 2013 – Miami Heat forward Chris Andersen has been suspended one game without pay and had his Flagrant Foul One upgraded to a Flagrant Foul Two, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations.

Andersen knocked Indiana Pacers forward Tyler Hansbrough to the floor, escalated the altercation by shoving Hansbrough, and resisted efforts to bring the altercation to an end. The incident occurred with 9:02 remaining in the second quarter of Miami’s 90-79 win over the Pacers at AmericanAirlines Arena.

Andersen will serve his suspension on Saturday, June 1 when the Pacers host the Heat in Game 6 of the 2013 Eastern Conference Finals at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

that’s big, and kind of surprising.

He should’ve been ejected in game 5 and things would have been different and Indiana could’ve won that game. Birdman practically did the same thing Nazi Mohammad did to Lebron in the Bulls series.

he didn’t make enough of a difference in game 5 for indiana to win it if he was ejected.

  • i_ball

I expect a big game from Indiana’s bigs now

  • Stinka

    Two fake tough guys.

  • GMR

Yeah right I’m taking Tyler Hansbrough in a fight over 99% of the league. The league is FULL OF FAKE TOUGH GUYS! Hans is definitely not fake. Why won’t anyone go as hard as he does against him? Ain’t nobody stepping to that dude, calm down junior.

  • Conor

Indiana’s missed layups during the first half, James’ dominance in the third, & Dan Crawford’s fourth quarter whistle ensured the former’s loss.

  • Lloyd

Except he didn’t fall like Lebron did.

  • Simba

calm down, are you related to tyler?

He was looking shook against the Birdman though!

Have you ever seen Tyler Hansbrough in a confrontation? Dude just stands up and barks and once the ref lays a hand on him, he goes back like a little pup lead away on a leash. Probably one of the more annoying players in the league. Birdman would smack him.

  • dannyb

Birdman got suspended intentionally just so he could go another game without missing a shot

  • GMR

Nah lil’ buddy but I know a tough s.o.b. when I see one, especially in a league full of followers and pansies. Steve Blake does jiu-jitsu, so I’m saying he would damn near get anybody in the L, but Tyler is close.

  • GMR

If you knew half as much as you thought you did you’d be twice as smart as you are now, but then again it’s people like you who provide entertainment for the rest of us.

“and once the ref lays a hand on him, he goes back like a little pup lead away on a leash.”
looks more like discipline than fear to me. just look at his’ physique and how he plays. i think it would be more probable that he would tear the birdman apart than the other way.

  • Feez_22

smh Hansborough is a spaz. He is the type to talk a big game and flex but then not do anything after. big spazz. i’d take a ton of guys in a fight over the spaz they call psycho t.

  • danpowers

to me he just appeared to be intelligent enough not to cross the line.

  • fruizm

    thats what she said…

  • DJR84

I dont know how the L can explain the officials giving two Ts on the play to magically rescinding THs T and suspending Anderson…what does that say about the competence of the refs or the level of politics in the NBA??

  • Lloyd

Good one little buddy. Since you didn’t say anything relevent to the topic, maybe I could try and take you by the hand and lead you back to a proper response. Care to show me any situation in the NBA where Tyler Hansbrough has proven to be a “tough guy”? I mean I could show you numerous times where he yaps, then backs off if you’d like. Other times where he gives cheap shots to his opponents like a little girl. “Psycho T” let that moniker get to his head.

  • Lloyd

Discipline? He’s yapping the whole time, pointing at the opposing player, trying to look intimidating. It’s like watching the frikkin’ WWE. And he initiates a lot of the time too, but then backs off when “held back”. Let’s not act like Hansbrough is “bout that life”.

His physique doesn’t mean toughness. Who would you take in a fight: Dwight or Dennis Rodman? I mean Dwight’s way more muscular and taller, but Rodman would wipe the floor with Dwight.

Know why? Dudes like Rodman and Birdman be crazy. Gimme crazy over muscles in a fight anyday. Tyler Hansbrough just looks like a kid throwing a temper tantrum.

  • danpowers

sorry man, im too old for a discussion like that. i even wonder what made me reply in the first place lol

  • Lloyd

I didn’t think age had to do anything with comparing dudes’ toughness and speculating on the result of this altercation had it escalated, but haha alright.

  • danpowers

then call it experience, maturity, logic, whatever you like ;)
