Jrue Holiday Traded to the New Orleans Pelicans for Nerlens Noel

The Philadelphia Sixers have reportedly dealt All-Star guard Jrue Holiday to the New Orleans Pelicans for the draft rights to Nerlens Noel, who was selected sixth overall in the NBA Draft. Per Yahoo! Sports: “The Pelicans also will send a 2014 first-round pick to the Sixers in the trade. The Sixers received a second-round pick (No. 42 overall in Thursday’s draft) from the Pelicans. Noel, a 7-foot center from Kentucky, had been a candidate to be selected No. 1 overall before slipping to sixth.

New Orleans on the come up?

  • OfftheWall87

Wonder who’s going to sign Bynum because it won’t be Philly.

  • Caboose

Pelicans could be deadly next year. If they move Vasquez for a package like Afflalo+Nelson or Granger, they could run Holiday, Gordon, Afflalo/Granger, Anderson, Davis with Aminu, Lopez, Rivers, and Xavier off the bench. That’s definitely playoffs in the West.

  • star

not a bad trade but cant say i wasnt looking forward to see a double defensive combo of davis and noel

  • bringbackthesonics

    feel bad for vasquez

  • Dagger

He could be in for a very rude awakening. I’m not sure if any team with cap space is salivating at the prospect of signing him.

For that matter, Ellis and JR Smith are in a similar position.

Thank you… my Sixers are finally going to tank right. I am gonna miss Jrue, but he was a “Win Now” piece that wouldn’t off been good enough to be a 1st or 2nd option and would of stopped us from tanking. Sixers are going to be bad but it’s for the best, they’ve been mediocre for nearly a decade, there is finally a plan. This was a good trade for both teams imo.

  • OfftheWall87

Thunder, Spurs, Clippers, Warriors, Nuggets, Rockets (with or without Dwight), Grizzlies, Jazz…I don’t see the Pelicans in the playoffs ahead of any of those teams.

You think Dallas or Houston will make a pitch of either loses out on Dwight?

  • RayJr

If there was any draft to try to get a steal from a team that is going to tank next year it was this one because I see at least 5 that teams are going to tank for a top pick next year. Pelicans…(pelicans ugh)…made a great move for Jrue. I was shocked and thought Jrue was a franchise piece for the Sixers.

Jazz? Why did you include Utah?

  • TheNetTruth

When I first read the headline I thought Jrue was sent to the D League but then I remembered the name change…

  • Stepfan Raiford

An all-star for a rookie with a bum knee? Operation Andrew Wiggins activated.

  • Basketball Coach

trying to picture your reaction makes me laugh even though i don’t know how you look like. LOL

  • LeroyShonuff

Sooo the sixers traded their best player for HOPE of getting Wiggins????? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA… In return they get a player who at BEST could be Tyson Chandler and this is a good trade??? HILARIOUS

  • AiRsMiTh

Playoffs? Definite? BTW, I don’t think Grievis would be swapped for those players, though he does have game.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Like nbk suggested, the Utah Saints aren’t gonna be making the playoffs. So the New Orleans Jazz could probably take their spot… although the Blazers would be gunning for that 8th seed too.

  • Hart26

NOLA putting together a good squad. Vasquez, BACKING UP Jrue, EG (if healthy) can become a borderline All Star, Maybe trade Vasquez for a SF like Granger, Anderson and Davis, with Lopez backing up? Nice squad. Need couple more pieces, but as of now, they are a possible 8th seed.

  • KingBenjamin

Just dumb for the Sixers, you trade your franchise’s best player for a Center that has a torn ACL, they basically are in the same position as last year but with a worse center and no franchise player, Philly fans must be pissed! #TankForWiggins

  • OfftheWall87

They’ll make it before the Pelicans do.

  • OfftheWall87

They’d be better than that Pelicans roster he put out there.

  • OfftheWall87

Eric Gordon is a scorer, nothing else. Guys don’t become All-Stars just being good in one category. Never averaged more than 4 assists and 3 rebounds in a season. Plus, he’s being made available in trade talks so he may not even be there when the season starts.

  • OfftheWall87

Guessing Mark Cuban wants nothing to do with Bynum even if they don’t get Dwight.

  • spit hot fiyah

a lot of ? with he jazz, but they will compete for it. dallas is a wild card as well as portland if they make a move. heathly t-wolves will be knocking on the door. should be a great race for 7th and 8th either way

  • spit hot fiyah

maybe they traded for noel so that bynum will only have the second worst knee on the team

  • Hart26

“Guys don’t become All-Stars just being good in one category.” Has worked out for Carmelo through the years, (not saying EG is on Melo’s level). Come on, you can easily become an All Star by just being a scorer, but yea. Trade is very likely, in that case, they need to trade him for a SF or SG. Just don’t know if anyone would take EG based on his injury history, especially if NOLA wants something great in return. Maybe PHX? They offered him a contract which was matched by NOLA.

  • jub_al

werd. Nerlens would’ve looked good in N’awlins…

  • OfftheWall87

Melo is great in one category and solid in another (rebounding). Much different than Gordon just averaging 20 points but not really doing anything else worth talking about.

  • OfftheWall87

Dallas isn’t a playoff team as constructed. If they get Dwight, they’ll obviously improve. But if not, they’ll be on the outside looking in. If McCollum and Lillard play well together, Portland could sneak in. Same with the Wolves if they get anything out of the SG position and everyone stays healthy.

  • bike

Pathetic. The Sixers will probably sit Noel for most of the season claiming he needs to rehab, gain weight, and develop.

The expectations for next year’s draft are too high. LMAO if these so called ‘can’t miss’ prospects underachieve in college.

As a very loyal Sixers fan, I was HEATED when I heard about the trade last night. We traded away our 23-year old All Star/franchise player, who had been improving every year, was fully commited to the team and actually wanted to be here (even tweeted that he wanted to win a ring with the Sixers) for an unproven and already injured Nerlens Noel and future pick. This coming after last years offseason where we let Lou Williams walk and basically gifted Iggy to Denver and Harkless/Vucevic to Orlando, since the Bynum project never worked out.

Along with the Holiday move, there were also rumors that we were on the verge of trading Evan Turner to Phoenix for a late 1st-rounder in this years weak draft….which seems as confirmation that a tank is underway. If that’s where we’re headed, I almost want Philly to trade Thad Young (heart of the team and possibly the most loved Sixer since AI) to a good team so he wont have to endure this seasons tank and future rebuilding years.

Now, if things work out (Noel develops into a great center, we get high picks in next years draft that turn out to be studs, are able to trade for young pieces), we could be praising this move, but from a “here and now” perspective, the Holiday trade and the impending rebuild/tank sucks. We went from projected contenders in the East prior to the 2012-13 season to entering the Wiggins sweepstakes SMH!

Really gonna miss Jrue Holiday around here, New Orleans just got a great PG and a high charcter individual.

How do you know? Their best players are free agents….

  • OfftheWall87

He presented a hypothetical situation that included Granger or Afflalo and Jameer Nelson added to the roster. So I did too. Mine included the Jazz as they stand plus Trey Burke.

  • spit hot fiyah

that’s why i called dallas a wild card, they could be in for sure, or be 10 games out

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

There is no jazz as they stand. His hypothetical makes more sense than saying the Jazz are going to be the same team. Considering they’ve been shopping Grievas all summer. And the jazz have no plans to bring back both Jefferson and Millsap. Probably neither.

    ……. THE “PELICANS?!?” BOL
