Blake Griffin Willing to Prove He’s Not Soft

Despite a reputation around the NBA as being somewhat soft, LA Clippers star forward Blake Griffin says he’d be more than happy to prove to any doubters just how tough he is. Just don’t expect him to lose his cool on the court. Per ESPN: “‘I’ve never really worried about being called soft or people thinking I’m soft,’ the Los Angeles Clippers’ star power forward said. ‘If anybody wants to step and take that challenge I’m more than happy — off the court — because I don’t want to get suspended. It’s not something that I dwell on. I’ve never really had a problem with being soft.’ [...] Griffin, meanwhile, said that he didn’t badger Chris Paul about re-signing with the team because he believed the Clippers showed the point guard during last season that he was on a team capable of winning. Paul ended up accepting a five-year, $107 million contract extension to remain with the team. ‘I think we’ve done our job to show him I think we can win here,’ Griffin said. He also said he’s excited about the upcoming season with the addition of new coach Doc Rivers.”

BREAKING: To prove this, Blake Griffin has volunteered to be a roll of toilet paper for anyone who thinks he’s soft. He will be going up against a Charmin Ultra Soft Mega Roll.

Chauncey Billups’ comments have been twisted pretty nicely by those who want to make fun of Blake. What he said was that Blake is too much of a nice guy to retaliate. That’s different from being soft like a punk like some people are taking this and he made a point of differentiating between the two. He’s too nice to take a shot at someone after they’ve taken a shot at him.

  • Lloyd

Dude’s got to stop flopping first and foremost.

  • TR

Seriously, i hope Blake Griffin heard the actual comments cause the guy from ESPN totally twisted words

  • Dagger

This narrative is so tired. Blake doesn’t have to beat people up on the basketball court. He needs to box out consistently, play forceful defense, and learn a few reliable go-to moves. A 10-foot jumper wouldn’t hurt, either. That’s how he improves, and that’s how his team becomes a true contender. Forget all that garbage about being too nice.

  • OfftheWall87

He probably did hear them himself, but you’re right. The guy interviewing him didn’t present Billups’ comments in the right way. Only the “He said you’re soft” part.

Blake has survived the training that the legendary Frank Matrisciano used to conduct in San Fransisco several years ago. Matrisciano’s training regime used to make Navy Seals puke. No way in hell that anyone who survives that can be considered soft.

  • danpowers

if he could just stop whining about no-calls and flopping that soft reputation would vanish prettty fast

  • pposse

its kind of a soft move to call out no one in particular to meet you outside of a bar or club or what have you to fight imo

  • spit hot fiyah

you should be his agent, i think can actually get a toilet paper commercial out of that idea

  • The Seed

Chris Paul picked the Clippers with this guy being the main centerpiece. CP3 career is over now, he will not win a ring with this team.

Dude is 6’10″ 250, I don’t think anyone would be THAT stupid to step to him and expect to walk away without a stretcher. The fact remains, as Dagger said below, he has a lot to improve on basketball-wise. Once he does that, the word on his toughness will change. Simple as that.

Video of those workouts on YouTube.

So in your opinion its harder to act tough in an NBA game in front of cameras knowing it will be broken up within seconds? ala Chi, Ind, Bos?

  • pposse

    naw.

Its just wack to basically be like “im issuing a challenge, anyone who thinks im soft come outside” and then follow that up with “because i dont want to get suspended”

Blake should have answered the questions as follows
    Reporter: Are you soft Blake?

Blake: You know what Mr. Reporter i came across this guy today and you know what he believes? He believes the Earth is flat. I said thats ridiculous, and your uneducated if you believe that…similar to the feelings I have towards anyone who thinks I’m soft. In that show the Game of Thrones, many of those characters also believe the world is flat…that thought has many similarities to the notion that I am soft…both are fiction.

  • initbruv

Or he could have just said, “I’m not a 15 year old boy so I am not concerned with whether people think I’m soft.” Like you said, he’s also issuing a generic challenge to fight off the court that makes him look like a child, not a tough guy. Grown a** dudes who think they need to prove themselves to other men, smh.

  • pposse

right, this guys public relations manager is probably tryin to find a way to spin these comments. Maybe asking Kia to make a commercial where Blake fights himself from 10 yrs ago or something.

  • Tony Taylor

Once Blake get that jumper and a couple other nifty post moves he will be the more athletic version of David Lee IMO.

  • robb

I don’t think Canelo’s soft, but he’s not exactly a tough guy. With that physique and that athleticism he could be unstoppable. He should stop flopping too.

  • Sancheezie

is he gonna start hanging with Aaron Hernandez?
