Blazers Sign Dorell Wright To Two-Year, $6 Million Contract

The Blazers continue to upgrade their bench by agreeing to terms with Dorell Wright on a two-year, $6 million contract. The Thunder were also reportedly pursuing Wright to replace Kevin Martin. From the Oregonian: “Free agent wing Dorell Wright has agreed to sign a two-year contract for $6 million with the Trail Blazers, agent Greg Lawrence said. The signing won’t become official until Wednesday. Wright, a 6-foot-9 sharp-shooter, last season averaged 9.2 points and 3.8 rebounds as a reserve for Philadelphia. He is a nine-year pro who has played in Miami, Golden State and Philadelphia. His best season was 2010-2011 in Golden State, when he led the NBA with 194 three-pointers and averaged 16.4 points and 5.3 rebounds. Wright gives the Blazers 13 guaranteed contracts, two short of the NBA maximum. The Blazers have enough money to possibly sign two more players, using a $2.6 million “room exception” and perhaps a veteran’s minimum.”

good move, helps what was probably the worst bench in the nba

  • spit hot fiyah

josh smith to pistons, 4 years 56 mill

  • Junkie

I’m happy to see that the Blazers are making moves to improve their bench, they still need a backup big though. After that they’ve got a nice core coming off the bench.

  • JML-G

ha, their bench gave me headache in 2k13 even tho their starting lineup was on point!

  • spit hot fiyah

ok, i was referring to real life

  • OfftheWall87

Cavs just came to an agreement with Jarrett Jack. They’re not a joke anymore.

  • Junkie

YES! So excited, got onto this team last year with league pass, pretty fun to watch. Interested in seeing what they do with their three bigs though. I’m still not sold on Brandon Knight though.

  • spit hot fiyah

for real, that’s a really nice guard rotation. irving, waiters and jack. if bennet is as good as i think he can be, they can make real run at the playoffs.

  • spit hot fiyah

i’m not sold on knight either, at all. and i have no idea how they will play monroe, drummond and smith together. they might not be done dealing.

  • Junkie

We still need to sort out our big man situation and find a way to keep Varejao on the floor or trade fro one who can.

  • Junkie

They should trade Monroe, he hasn’t hit his peak but he underperformed last year and Drummond is better for their team. Monroe should have good trade value though.

  • OfftheWall87

Bennett will help your big man situation. Need a wing player more than anything. Take some of the scoring pressure off of Kyrie.

  • Junkie

I think the Cavs are trying to play Earl Clark at the 3. Center is definitely still a big need for the team, we get beat up with Zeller and Varejao can’t stay healthy. Bennett will help us probably but he’s not the answer for our predicament.

With Earl Clark on the team assuming he’s a sf. We’d have Waiters-Gee-Clark-Kravsev and CJ at the wing and my money’s on Jack being played as the 1 or the 2 with Kyrie from time to time like they did in Golden State.

  • spit hot fiyah

yeah, i don’t think there is any chance that they move drummond. but it seems kind of early to give up on monroe, but like u said, his trade value should be pretty high. the back court worries me, stuckey is not that dude. i was surprised they brought him, they could have saved a lot of money (half his contract according to what i read) it they just released him

  • OfftheWall87

They’ll definitely play Kyrie off the ball more with Jack. But to me, if Varejao can stay healthy and he’s still capable of getting a double double each night, all they’re missing is a scorer at the 3 position and a center who can score and protect the rim. Those guys are hard to find now. But if they manage to find it, maybe next summer, they’ll be set.

  • Junkie

Yeah but that’s a big if to rely on Varejao to stay healthy if he hasn’t played a full season in the last four years.

He was ballin last year before he went down and I would say if he’s fully healthy this year we’d be fighting for a playoff spot. A lineup of Kyrie – Waiters – Clark – Thompson – Varejao with Jack, Gee, Bennett and Zeller off the bench have the potential to make some noise.

  • Junkie

Yeah Stuckey definitely shouldn’t have gotten a new contract but he’s in his contract year so hopefully they can wheel him off later in the year for a few picks or someone who contributes.

Sad thing is last year sometimes the only offense on the team was Stuckey and Bynum doing their whole run at the basket and try to put it in.

  • OfftheWall87

I don’t see Bennett coming off the bench. I can’t remember the last number 1 overall pick who came off the bench. Clark will have to come off the bench.

  • Junkie

    lol

  • Redd

Won’t surprise me if Hickson returns.

  • Redd

Knight to me last season was going to show everyone he’s an elite PG..I like him tho & hope he makes a big leap.

  • Guest

Josh Smith just signed for 4 years and 56 million to the Detroit Pistons.

  • Junkie

You think Bennett will come in and play the 3 straight away?

  • OfftheWall87

    Yep.

  • Junkie

I feel like that’s where they want him to end up but I don’t think he can step in day one and fill that role. He has very little lateral quickness.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Smith might play some 3 for the Pistons. I think he can fill in for Munroe at the 4 and also play 3 alongside both those guys; I think that’s the plan, anyway.

  • OfftheWall87

Not sure they have a choice. He can play both the 3 and 4. Either way, I don’t see them bringing him off the bench. It shocked everyone that they took him. They must think he can step in right away and help. You don’t take a guy who you just want to bring along slowly with the number 1 pick.

  • Junkie

Yeah you’re right, regardless I guess we’ll just see how the pick pans out. Picking Tristan Thompson was a reach last year and they made it work so let’s see if they make it work.

  • Trillfamyoungin

    nice pick up

  • OfftheWall87

Darren Collison to the Clippers. Back to backing up Chris Paul like he did in NO.

  • Trillfamyoungin

if they some how get danny granger would be a nice fit

  • Trillfamyoungin

i heard devin harris back with the mavs

  • OfftheWall87

    So did I.

  • Junkie

Doesn’t seem to be too many takers for him so far but Blazers don’t want him back and plus they just picked up Lopez.

  • Junkie

Is it overpaying to give Zaza Pachulia 16 mil over 3 years?

  • Redd

Oh yea, good call, forgot about that.

He did well last year tho.

  • relax

i like how none of these comments are about dorell wright

  • ATL dynamite

Just a question, is a sign-and-trade between J Smoove and Monroe possible?

  • spit hot fiyah

really good move in order to get a back up. but what they really need is a bak up at the 4/5, that is were they were hurting the most last year when they had to go to odom, turiaf or hollins.

hickson, kenyon, speights, brand (landry ended up being way to expensive)

  • spit hot fiyah

yeah that was my intitial thought, but if it is on the that josh smith has proven in his career it is that he is a 4. the further from the basket he gets he worse he gets. spacing will be a major issue with that line up. eventhough monroe is good away from the hoop

  • spit hot fiyah

lol true, or throw it up in the sky and hope that drummond gets it. which he usually did

  • OfftheWall87

Heard last week that they were looking into bringing Kenyon back. Would be a good move.

  • spit hot fiyah

i read they are already over the tax line. they don’t have a lot of money to play with.

i don’t know about kenyon and how much he has left in the tank. i thought he left them on bad terms last time, maybe it was related to del negro

  • OfftheWall87

If it was coach related, Doc won’t have an issue with him and he won’t have any issue with Doc. Read yesterday that the Spurs also want him. Guess we’ll see what happens.

  • spit hot fiyah

    agreed on doc

i also read spurs. speaking of, dejuan blair? everyone knows that the guy can really play when given an opportunity, i’m surprised no one has gone after him. i would love him on the clippers but i have a feeling that someone will offer him more than they can.

  • OfftheWall87

Spurs were trying to trade him before the deadline this past season, but I guess they couldn’t find a good spot for him or they weren’t offered anything worth taking back.

LOL, read a lot of the comments, it’s like the SLAM Online in a single page!
