Hawks Retaining Jeff Teague After Matching Bucks’ Four-Year Offer

A few days ago, the Bucks offered point guard Jeff Teague a four-year, $32 million deal, which the Hawks then had the opportunity to match. Though Teague reportedly didn’t want Atlanta to do so, the AJC reports that they have indeed matched the offer and will retain the pg: “Jeff Teague is still a member of the Atlanta Hawks. The team matched the four-year, $32 million offer sheet from the Bucks on Saturday. The point guard, disillusioned with the progress of negotiations, signed the offer sheet on Wednesday. The Hawks had three days to match the offer and keep Teague in Atlanta at $8 million a season or let him go to Milwaukee. Teague would have been reunited with former Hawks coach Larry Drew. Teague, a restricted free agent, said he expressed to general manager Danny Ferry of his desire to continue his career elsewhere. However, the Hawks gained the right to match such an offer after making Teague a qualifying offer prior to the start of the NBA’s free-agency period.”

    i called it, awkward moment.

but 8 mill a year is not a bad deal for a pg like him, specially considering that they don’t really have a pg and the market doesn’t offer many of high quality.

“specially considering that they don’t really have a pg and the market doesn’t offer many of high quality”

That`s the key. Atlanta doesn`t have a starting PG nor do they have a legitimate starting SG, SF or true C. At the end of the day, Atlanta did not want to sign Brandon Jennings who was the only other solid starting PG who played in 2012-13 left on the market. Jennings looks like he`s going to be in a Bucks uniform next season.

What a waste of money, they should just keep the money. He is not that good, he is average.

  • spit hot fiyah

so who should be their point guard in your opinion?

  • Jayvee

    Tank.

  • spit hot fiyah

they already signed millsap to team up with horford and lou williams is coming back. they will be too good to tank (i.e. they wont be one of the 6 worst teams in the league)

  • Guest3

They aren`t tanking. Lou Williams is not a starter though. But signing Korver and Millsap and matching Teague`s offer sheet implies that Atlanta is not tanking.

i wasn’t implying that he was a starter. my point was that with him and the other guys mentioned, they are automatically too good to be tanking.

The Seed* What are you talking ’bout? 1. Hawks needs too reach cap floor. 2. Teaque was the best point out there (yes better than Jennings). And 3. 8 mil a year for him at 25 years old is a good deal considering that he most likely will keep developing.

  • Guest3

    Agreed.

Nobody seems to want Brandon Jennings. And certainly, nobody will want him for the amount of money he’ll want.

  • The Seed

Mo Williams or even Devin Harris who they let walk. Teaque is not that good, sorry. They could have traded for Bledsoe or even Austin Rivers with Pelicans. They have about 10 point guards. I would sign Brandon Jennings.

They had to spend that money one way or another (teams must spend 90% of salary cap). Might as well not lose an asset for nothing.

    Devin Harris signed in Dallas

  • LP @ThisisEther

Austin Rivers? No. Teague is good, and he improves every year, I think…. Mo Williams plays like he’s still crushed by LeBron leaving.. .. Devin glass Harris…..

  • Thor Christian Sulsbrück

Devin didn’t go through the medical check because of dislocated toe. Ain’t happening.

  • spit hot fiyah

that signing didn’t go through from what i read, he failed the physical and has to have surgery on a toe or something

  • Dagger

    He didn’t: failed his medical.

  • Dagger

Sadly, point guards who can’t shoot and can’t distribute at a high enough level are not exactly a valued commodity these days.

    Well this is awkward….

Oh snap for real? What part did he fail?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    word, i appreciate the correction

Just like with Eric Gordon. lol. Same thing, signed elsewhere (PHX), was excited about joining the other team, ‘hoped’ previous team wouldn’t match, and then they did.

Yea that has to be weird walking into the team facilities and being like “hey guys what I miss?” lol

  • LakeShow

    Not so sad.

  • Dagger

Not so sad for us, maybe a little sad for Jennings.

  • BugEyes

    I like Teague
