Iman Shumpert Reportedly Unhappy With the Knicks’ Offseason Moves

The Knicks haven’t exactly had the best summer—their biggest free-agent signing was Metta World Peace, and they spent about $18 million to bring back JR Smith, who had knee surgery immediately following the inking of his deal. And here’s another negative piece of news: up-and-coming guard Iman Shumpert is reportedly unhappy with the franchise’s direction, according to the Daily News: “I guess the only question is if Metta expires before Shumpert, one of the few Knicks who has value. Dolan is reportedly upset that Shumpert wasn’t interested in working with the summer league team and wants to trade him. Shumpert, I’ve heard, isn’t too crazy about the moves the Knicks have made, which could further stunt his development.”

  • dbone

U must b on some serious stuff my man,Jordan Crawford or Courtney Lee,lmfao,u mean Rondo for Chandler n Shump,u can throw in Crawford….

  • Joe

No way pick up deandre liggins a cheaper shump with a better ball handle and cheaper the package shump for picks or package around something else we need

  • Killa K

    Andrea Bargnani’s fault lol

  • Aaron Diggs

What do you mean? Lol your crazy if you think that is possible. He hasn’t done anything. You’d be lucky to get a pick too.

  • Saleem Rainman

Knicks Management has honestly always been pretty dumb…

  • Brandan E

Shumpert only played one summer league game and that was it! Isnt he a 2nd year player? he was supposed to be there and play wit the team.

  • J. Mack

Nope , since he’ll be going into his third year

  • Que

trade Shump, Are you’ll crazy? I’m in complete agreement we Rondo but trade a young stud like Shump for him, I can’t agree with that. To get Rondo I would trade our young talent. Roster: rondo, jr, Metta, Melo, Tyson; bench: Shump, Pablo, amare, Kmart, Bargnani. 10 man rotations

  • J. Mack

I hope he doesn’t get traded, but he does, I hope he take Amar’e or Andrea with him.

  • Trevor

Give him to okc for Perkins,1 second round picks and thabo

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Shoulda traded for Jared Dudley……. Lol

  • Jose Paniagua

Shumpert, is our future. ..Knicks have to find a way too keep him.period, no excuse. ….

  • spit hot fiyah

    no way, jared dudley is….

    forget it

  • “according to the daily news”…

You mean Isola’s daily news? That guy reporting more negative news related to the Knicks? The guy who just declared Brooklyn to be the better NY based team even though not a single game has been played yet? The Knicks beat writer who feels that he’s above actually covering the teams summer league team even though he’s in Vegas to do just that? The guy who takes his childish grudge against James Dolan out on an entire fanbase? This same guy who tried to rationalize trading Shumpert for Jared Dudley because Shump was in no way gonna be helpful during the playoffs because of the ACL injury?

Not saying these reports ain’t true, just saying… consider the source first. Snakes in the grass… snakes in the grass. Smh.

  • money

Do not trade him I think all other teams value him less than he’s worth he developed his offensive game after being injured for half of the season is a all defensive team type defender he won’t be a superstar but he can be a good third man on a championship team

  • tobias downs

No you are crazy shump is way better up side then lee and Crawford, yeah you are smoking something

  • Quee

Are you crazy? Who are the Knicks giving up in this situation? And why would the Celtics give Rondo to a team within their division for this “young talent” you speak of? Only young talent they have Tim Hardaway Jr. and Shump

  • Mike Mclean

first of all why does anybody believe this, and if this is true and shump is mad and we trade we should go after Jennings forget rondo why does everyone always want these players that have knee problems and injury prone

  • James wright

James Dolan bitchass who fucked the Knicks franchise up back in the day I say lets do a purge at his house

  • Josh

You people are crazy if you think this is true…. The media would make anything up to get a story. Why would the Knicks trade one of there best young pieces for a scrub in Dudley. There not getting rondo, there not getting Jennings. Anyone can make up a simple story of shumpert isn’t happy with the moves they made this offseason. Shumpert is going into his third year. Towards the end of the season he returned back into form and balled out in the playoffs. He’s is going to get better. Rondo torn his acl too so it’s going to take him time to comeback. Why would the Knicks make that trade. Yess it looks good on paper but no one really knows how it would work out including myself. People need to stop the speculation and rumors.

  • Basketball_iQ

Rondo for that trash? That’s a tank move for the celtics,,,, I’ve seen Rondo dominate a playoff series, I’ve seen chandler and shump ride pine for a playoff series. Stfu

  • Basketball_iQ

Who gives a a hot sh1t,,,, it’s Iman shumpert,,,,, a nobody who’s done nothing in the league. People are clamoring like it’s a seasoned vet who’s taken ny somewhere before,,,,, oh wait, knick fans dominate the WORLD,,, that’s why this made news

I mean, his owner thinks he should’ve played SUMMER LEAGUE but knick fans want Rondo for him,,, LMAO ,,, THAT SHOWS YOU HOW delusional y’all as a group are.

  • Nonewfrwens

So is every other Knicks fan this offseason…..

  • Datkid

I hope shump gets out of the mess in NY man. he could actually be good.

  • Knicks all day

i hope this doesnt make shumpert wanna leave after his contract is up. I bieleve hes the knicks future. plz dont leave:(

  • Dagger

Looking through these comments, I’m amazed at how much Knicks fans overrate Shumpert. He’s an exciting young player and a great defender. He’s also had a major injury and his offensive numbers are mediocre at best. He’s a nice prospect and a useful role player, but in no way is he a franchise cornerstone.

  • BugEyes

Heard that he had some great games in the playoffs against the pacers when mellow was lagging, and that put back dunk come off ACL surgery just shows how Much talent he posseses

  • KnicksNeedsHelp

It so Simple …THAT OWNER HAVE TO GOOO!

  • MikeC.

Did you start watching basketball in May, 2013? Chandler has accomplished more than Rondo has, and isn’t coming off reconstructive surgery of anything critically important to his game. Shumpert and two first round picks would be enough to get Rondo this year, if NY had any picks to trade. Except Rondo fits 0% of NY’s spacing needs. NY is better off with Chandler and Shumpert than with Rondo.

  • Hard and Strong

And the same guy who said we were be 7th or 8th seeder last year

  • Sean

And the same guy who spent years writing every daily column about Isiah Thomas, then spent the next two years writing every column about Lebron James coming to New York, then spent the next year ripping Lebron James for not coming to New York. Never writes about actual basketball..Worst sportswriter ever

  • MikeC.

Two notable exceptions. When Grunfeld and Checkets put Allan Houston, Sprewell, LJ, Childs and Camby around a just-about-done Ewing (then the next regime turned an expiring Ewing into a decade of horseshit) and Donnie Walsh turning Layden and Isiah’s diarrhea soup into Amare and Melo. Cant blame Amare’s collapse on Walsh. That’s on D’Antoni not trusting anyone else and riding Amare into the dust chasing the 8 seed

  • dwiley20

If we were to trade him…i hope not but Evan Turner for Iman Shumpert

  • MikeC.

Have you watched an NBA game before? I’m just curious. Shumpert was considered one of the top-5 wing defenders in the league before he hurt his knee. As a rookie. By all reports, he has recovered from the injury 100%. A young player with even one elite talent, is very valuable. A player with an elite talent and above-average talents in other areas with lots of room for growth is even more valuable. All of that, AND on a rookie-scale contract is a jackpot. Basketball_IQ is an antonym for what you are commenting here. If the OWNER of the team wants a player to play in the summer league in order to develop his game, since said player missed a chunk of development time during his second season, then the player should probably suit up for a couple runs. Getting some reps in while still testing out a surgically repaired knee seems like a good idea. I know I sure did a lot of walking before running when I had ankle surgery, even though the doc said I was good to go. If you’re 12 years old, which your ability to grasp the intricacies of the game suggest you are, then I apologize for assuming you can keep up. Stay at it little guy. Some day you’ll understand basketball. If you really keep at it, you might even understand that if someone has a multi-million dollar investment in something, that person might sometimes want to check in and gauge the return on that investment.

  • MikeC.

We need his money. Cablevision has deeeeep pockets. Maybe we can just lock him away somewhere.

  • MikeC.

Andrea will be valuable in the 2014-2015 season when his name legally changes to “Andrea Bargnani’s expiring contract”. Some team going nowhere, with a good player, will be looking to dump salary and tank and the Knicks *please oh please don’t screw this up* can take advantage of that. Ex. Gasol to Lakers.

  • RunNGun

What can I say… make it happen, Walsh?

  • Roe Rick

Isola is claiming the Nets as the kings of NY before they even play a game and bashing the knicks left and right. Nets PR obviously bought this guy out, coincidence that there is a Nets Daily section set up with Daily news. This “journalism” is a joke

  • Interdico Scriptor

    **claps***
    See @Jose below!

  • Interdico Scriptor

Why is smoking something a detriment?

  • Interdico Scriptor

Ahahahaha… Riding Amare into the dust eh?

Where do u get this stuff from?

  • Interdico Scriptor

Dude. Wake the F**k up! The Nets are obviously the (way) better team on paper. If the role was reversed and NYK had made this trade, imagine the hyperbole that would be spewing from Knick fans/media about it. Nets have a super team, face it. Knicks traded for Bargniani! Ahahahahahaha. Classic!

  • Interdico Scriptor

Who says Shump is top 5?

  • Interdico Scriptor

True. But if that the Knick’s long term strategy it’s kinda bizarre…

  • MikeC.

36.8 mpg for a guy who has had multiple knee surgeries and an uninsured contract because of said surgeries? I guess I like to just speculate on things since Amare didn’t wear down by the end of the season, get injured in the playoffs and has never been the same. Thanks for coming out.

  • MikeC.

People that watch NBA games. Obviously not you. Go back to Brooklyn and drink a Pabst in your v-neck T. Dbag.

  • MikeC.

I hate this trade, but since it’s done, it’s something to live with. Bargnani might hit a couple 3s per game and stretch the floor for Melo for a season. Then he’s a valuable expiring contract. Other than the draft pick, NYK didn’t really give up much to get him. If NYK are all top 5 seed, the pick won’t be too valuable. It all depends on what Bargnani does this season. If he’s decent, maybe he sticks around on a smaller contract. If he plays the same as he did in TO, he’s a trade piece.

  • ATL dynamite

LOL I watch enough NBA games to know that Iman is not a top 5 as there are guys that possess better D than him. Iman has great upside, but he hasn’t proved anything yet. If he isn’t on the Knicks team now he will only be another Dequan Jones who rushes for his shots, while you Knicks fans would ride on the bandwagon of another player with ‘great upside’.

Also, slamonline is a place for basketball fans to exchange info and opinions, but not for guys like you to vent anger by writing paragraphs of insult. Grow up.

  • Jerry Alex

you’re just the average insanely bias Knick fan. You see the world through orange colored glasses,

  • Datkid

Shump is ok. and he could be VERY good one day. but he’s not a top 5 wing defender. not over guys like Tony Allen, Andre Iguodala, Lebron, Paul George,Kawhi Leonard, or even Shawn Marion…lol knicks fans.

  • danpowers

    lol stfu

  • danpowers

wouldnt work with the cap and dolan should know that if he touches the kid there will be riots in ny lol

  • MikeC.

Should have qualified my statement better. ESPN/ABC commentators (I think it was JVG) ranked Shumpert that high shortly before his knee imploded. I’m pretty sure JVG had him as high as 3. Anyway, my original point was that the kid has an elite level talent and a high ceiling. I’m passionate about my team and Iove Shump, but if he’s part of a package that can improve the team, I won’t cry if he’s traded.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Kendrick Perkins had 24 points in the playoffs…..and 23 turnovers.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

haha you know i had to say that.

  • Clos1881

If amare never came you would never have melo nobody was lining up to play for the knicks

  • mannasage

WTF are you bitching about, the Knicks took out the Celtics w/Pierce & Garnett easily. These two very old dudes aren’t going to make the Nets any faster & hardly a super team. Try & keep up assh*le!!!
