Manu Ginobili Re-Signing With the San Antonio Spurs for Two Years (UPDATE)

UPDATE: According to Yahoo! Sports, Manu’s new two-year deal with the Spurs is worth $14 million: “Ginobili, who turns 36 on July 28, averaged 11.8 points and 4.6 assists in 60 games last season. He was won three championships with the Spurs and helped them advance to last season’s NBA Finals against the Miami Heat. Taken with the 57th overall pick of the 1999 NBA draft, Ginobili has spent his entire NBA career with the Spurs.”

After hemming and hawing last season about the possibility of retiring, free agent Manu Ginobili has decided to stick around for a couple of more seasons with the San Antonio Spurs (terms of the deal have yet to be made public.) Per Manu’s Twitter: “Thrilled to announce that as I always hoped, I’m gonna stay with the @spurs for two more years. #gospursgo.”

One more go around for SA to be a top team in the West next season and then they’ll be in the bottom half of the West for years to come. A lot of teams are getting better and they are just getting older.

does anyone have a number on this contract?

  • The Seed

Spurs should have let him walk, for choking the NBA Finals with about 30 turnovers in 3 games and a free throw miss in Game 6. Spurs had their chance, its over.

Spurs are a different type of organization though.

    -repeatedly said since 2008

  • robb

bad news for the Spurs fans

  • RayJr

You aren’t going to be able to say that anymore after next season.
Come on now…2013-2014 will be their last realistic run at a title. Duncan has one more year left in his tank and Pop will leave when Duncan does. Also, Ginobli’s age is showing and he is just terrible now. The bright spots are Parker and Leonard and that’s it. The reality is their key pieces that let you say “repeatedly said since 2008″ won’t be there anymore.

    I’m so Shocked!

    Said no one.

  • spit hot fiyah

they are saying 2 years for 14 mil. 7 million a year is too much for ginobili at this point

  • pposse

Duncan might have just been the best 37 yr old to ever hoop, what if he becomes the best 38 and 39 yr old to ever lace them up too?

    Maybe Kareem was better idk

  • Saleem Rainman

Kareem was. He was basically elite till the age of like 39 i think.

Guys like Nash and Stockton were pretty dope at 37 too.

    2 years, 14 million.

manu played horribly in the finals…

    his health is questionable…

    his explosiveness is dwindling…

his inability to rebound the ball allowed ray-ray to bury a 3PT at the end of gm6.

manu is responsible for the SAS finals loss. he should pay SAS to play 2 more yrs.

  • spit hot fiyah

yeah i saw it, too much imo

yeah, this is the time when Loyalty is going to start biting SA in the ass.

  • Will Lee

    i would expect veteran minimum

It can’t be stated enough just how horrendous Ginoboli was in that series.I loved Manu in his younger days but watching that series, I honestly felt like he was purposefully throwing the game or trying to meet some gambling odds or something. He was that bad. There is no way a HOF player should somehow forget how to dribble, run, or run a pick and roll so late into his career. It was strange.

I’m shocked to see that he only had 3 tpg in the Finals, it felt like he had 8 per game.

Manu Won the Finals for the Heat; Not LeBron

  • Pinoy

Manu I love you homie but you cost the Spurs the Championship LITERALLY! You gave the win to the Heat. Im pinoy from Philippines I love Spo and Dwade but Im a Spurs fan all the way

Please just walk away. I lost lots of money bec of you on and around my B-Day!! You were that bad homie.

  • The Fury

Same here man, but not on the DWade side lol. But amidst all of the stupidity he made during the Finals he will still be Manu, only God knows what’s on his mind during that series. He wasn’t like that AT ALL throughout the playoffs. He’s still my favorite Spur player of all time.

  • spit hot fiyah

yeah, that’s like being loyal to a fault. would he have turned down 2 years for 8 mil? which other team is he going to got to? he would probably just retire if he felt he didn’t get enough, which would probably be the best
