Omer Asik Reportedly Doesn’t Want to Play With Dwight Howard in Houston

Center Omer Asik has no interest in having Dwight Howard as a teammate in Houston, according to ESPN. The Rockets may work out a sign-and-trade for Asik: “It is possible they could engage the Los Angeles Lakers in a sign-and-trade for Howard if the Lakers want to avoid losing their star center for nothing in return. It is also possible the Rockets will look to engage the Atlanta Hawks in a sign-and-trade deal for free agent Josh Smith. The Hawks are open to making a sign-and-trade deal with the Rockets for Smith, league sources said. Smith and Howard played together on summer teams as teenagers and have talked in the past about becoming teammates in the NBA. Asik, a quality defender who averaged career highs in points (10.1), rebounds (11.7) and blocks (2.7) while starting all 82 games for Houston last season, has a complicated contract that could become a challenge in a trade. His official salary-cap number for this season and next is $8.3 million, but because of an arcane measure the Rockets used to sign him away from the Chicago Bulls last year, he is actually owed more than $20 million over the next two seasons. His salary in 2014-15 is guaranteed at $15 million.”

Wow. Harden, Howard, Smith and Parsons. That would be incredible. Good thing the new CBA discourages super teams!

Fake headline with no real source.

Dwight’s a Rocket, but don’t worry Omer, you’re on your way out of Houston anyway.

  • Jay Cutler

They were going to trade him anyway. This makes it sound like Omer Asik (of all people) has some sort of clout. He was only still in Houston in case Dwight fell through.

No.. It’s very real everybody is talking about it right now.

    Please keep Lin though…

Even so, it looks like Josh Smith is next to head on over to Houston which could mean a S&T with ATL in which Asik is traded to ATL.

Really stoked about Dwight in Houston, but I feel bad for Asik who played great last year… Wish him the best of luck.

start canaan ? too much booze..

I hope Smith doesn’t go to Houston. With Dwight in the middle, I think they’d rather have a power forward who can shoot, not unlike Rashard Lewis once was.

  • Rob

Ahhh, now dwight can kill team chemistry in houston. And he is nog better than omer asik. Asik actually can shoot free throws. This makes no sense. And they should not sign smith. Ill advised 3 pointers on top of dwights bricks. Rockers jusf killed a potential championship team. Cause the 2012 rockets had all the pieces.

Yes for sure, too late get millsap. But yeah, they would have to Change their philosophy on offense some what if they get Smith

  • Armando

S&T Smith for Asik could be good for Atlanta, not so sure about Houston if they have ‘ship aspirations… If there’s any truth to the NO rumors I’m inclined to think that’s the best scenario for both teams… Stretch four that has proved he plays well with/off DH for a defensive minded center that will make NO’s interior D pretty good, and Davis won’t have to defend centers so frequently either…

I know. I’m just being a UK homer.
