Coach Brad Stevens Invited Former Celtics to Be Part of Team Tradition

Boston’s new head coach is hoping to draw from the team’s rich history. Brad Stevens contacted all former Celtics players in an effort to bring them back into the fold. Reports Peter Vecsey, via Twitter: “Brad Stevens sent letter to former Celtic players. Said if they ever want to attend practice or home/away games, call his office … Stevens said they’re always welcome to continue to be part of the Celtics’ tradition.”

Ummmm… do the Celtic greats really need Brad Stevens’ permission to hang around the facilities?

I guess this applies to guys like Eric Williams and Eddie House. lol

Was thinking the exact same thing. When Doc was coaching Hondo came to practice unannounced and Doc was already an established coach with 2 Finals appearances and one title. You really thing the Celtic greats need permission? lol

Or is this more of a ‘Hey guys feel free to come in and boost morale because we’re gonna tank and these guys are gonna hate on me’?

  • Seth

So did Pierce and Garnett receive the letter?

Doubt it. He’s a first time head coach and the head coach of the most storied franchise in the history of the sport at that. So with that being said he’s probably going out of his way to establish a healthy relationship with the franchise as a whole. I just think his statements go without saying IMO.

I guess it was more of him reaching out trying to build relationships with the former players. I’m hoping anyway. Imagine Bill Russells face when he opened that letter. lol.

Did Ray Allen receive a letter? lol

Larry Bird is not walking through that door!

This is a college coaching technique. I don’t see how this would work for professional players that are being paid millions to perform.

    Probably something like this..

I like how Hondo showed up for that practice in the association with some plays he’d written up for Doc to run…and Doc was good with it. That’s BALLER.

Currently dying right now, well played sir

  • Ugh

This thought also crossed my mind.

Or he wants to collect some autographs before he gets fired 10 games into next season.

I think this is his way of indirectly asking the former greats to come to more games. He obviously doesn’t need to give them permission.

  • Dean

Raef LaFrentz might be coming in to mentor Fab Melo
