Los Angeles Lakers Sign Xavier Henry

Free agent guard Xavier Henry inked a deal with the Lakers, the team announced on Thursday. The three-year vet will make just under $1 million next season. Per the LA Times: “Henry was originally drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2010 with the 12th overall pick. He was traded in 2012 to the New Orleans Hornets (now Pelicans), where he averaged 3.9 points a game in 50 appearances. Reports had recently linked Henry to the Lakers and while the terms of his contract have yet to be released, he’ll make $916,099 for the upcoming season. The Lakers recently signed small forward Shawne Williams to a partially guaranteed contract. The 6-foot-6 Henry is likely to have a similar deal, needing a strong training camp to make the team. The Lakers now have 14 players under contract. They are also expected to sign second-round draft pick Ryan Kelly (48th overall).”

This guy should be a rookie. He’d be much better.

If Xavier Henry could get the 3 point game he had in college (40%+) this could be a good look with the Lakers. I like that some of the people they have now signed are low risk, high reward type players in a rebuilding process.

He’s not very good by NBA standards. Blame it on health or just the lack of talent this guy was projected to have. Why did scouts think he was good anyway? He’s slow, not real athletic by NBA standards, and soft. Just like the Lakers. I’d rather them sign Lamar and his troubled self. Maybe hoops is his only safe haven at this point. Or Beasley. At least of all the lefties mentioned 2 are physically healthy, if not mentally healthy.

i thought he was going to be way better in the nba. he could really shoot and seemed athletic and strong enough to be a very solid 2 guard

Yeah, he’s by no means in their future plans unless he plays his way into their plan.

EVERYONE has 1 year on their salary besides Nash.

Should be a huge free agency for them next off season.

    Co-Sign.

He still has a chance at 22 years of age to carve out some sort of niche in the L.

The Lakers are an amazing franchise even with Jim Buss I’m sure you guys will be fine. You will most likely get Melo if the New York season goes to garbage, and from there you can add the right role players to fit your weaknesses. The Lakers will be ready to compete in no time again, especially if Kobe can average even 23-4-4 shooting around 46%+ (while playing defense) lol — I have faith in them! you still have Pau who will most likely stick around unless your city drives him out (who would resign for less if you kept him), Kobe (same story), and Nash who is good on any team even if he couldn’t guard a fat kid.. the future looks good!

hmm, i think the lakers need Stephen Jackson more than Xavier Henry……and they are too late now,,but they needed Mo Williams, Nate Robinson (ie. get rid of nash and or blake), and Pekovic (if they want to be a title contender)

  • patrick

ya why didn’t the lakers sign beasley over henry? and does them getting henry now mean they won’t sign beasley?

  • RKJ92

    A) Why would they sign a 35yr old Stephen Jackson, when firstly they aren’t going anywhere even IF they make the playoffs, and secondly if they can properly develop a 22yr old Xavier Henry under the mentorship of Kobe.
    .
    B) You cannot “just” get rid of Nash he’s under contract. They don’t need a washed Mo Williams, or a trigger happy Nate Robinson I mean do you REALLY think that would bode well with Kobe after they already signed Nick Young?
    .
    C) Pekovic has already been signed.
    .
    Use your head..

  • RKJ92

They will not sign Beasley period. He doesn’t play a lick of defense, he will take away from Pau, and Kobe’s shots, and he’s a cancer to the franchise.. the Lakers would drop his ass in a month if they signed him, what are you even thinking?

  • patrick

at least they are paying him <$1m…

  • LakeShow

    lol

  • RKJ92

Just an lol? you can do better then that! besides what is funny? :S

i mean, they have only missed the playoffs twice in the last like 30 years. i would be shocked if they weren’t competing again by 2014

  • LakeShow

“and Nash who is good on any team even if he couldn’t guard a fat kid”

    LOL

  • spit hot fiyah

that niche is looking more and more like an 11th man as time goes on

  • RKJ92

I could honestly see that fat black kid from Malcolm in the middle crossing Nash up then shooting an uncontested jumper in his face just before he takes a hit from his puffer lololol.

    Do…… you……..really….. think…………………… so……….?

    heheh

  • RKJ92

    LOL

  • RKJ92

It’s a free agency hotbed lol they will never be bad for long guaranteed they’re back to full strength not after this next summer, but the summer after that, when they figure out their new voids after a season with their newly built roster.

Xavier work ethic is low also,,,, I seriously doubt we’ll see an explosion of talent from him after what we’ve already seen. Maybe being on the verge of falling completely out of the nba, he’ll pick it up. Or maybe he does need to test his game over seas,,, reminds me of Trayjon Langdon. His career and his game.

  • Basketball_iQ

How are you optimistic on the Lakers?? If I was the gm, I’d be positioning myself for the future much less chasing a 7or an 8seed.lol
Now, you’re 1 more year older and 1 more year out from reestablishing your franchise as a contender once all the old fartsleave.

  • RKJ92

They are the Lakers… If you know basketball, you know they’re gonna get their team in order very quickly. The Lakers are a free agency hotbed, and they have more then 30 million to spend. Do you really and honestly think they are planning to rebuild? they will do whatever it takes at all costs to stay in the playoffs even if they stink in this first year it wont matter because the year after you better believe they will be in the mix again.
