Luol Deng Contract Talks With Chicago Bulls Reportedly Stalled

Earlier this summer, the Bulls began negotiating a contract extension with forward Luol Deng. Those talks have grinded to a halt, according to CSNChicago. Deng is about to enter the final year of his deal in the Windy City: “But when the talks were revisited, the Bulls opted to put those plans on hold for the time being and risk the team’s longest-tenured player becoming an unrestricted free agent next summer, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation. ‘We were optimistic,’ the source said of the mentality Deng’s camp had heading into the late August meeting, approximately two weeks ago. ‘Our goal was to get an extension done this summer. If that’s not what they want to do, so be it. We’re not upset, Luol isn’t upset. We’re just looking forward to this season and next summer,’ continued the individual, who acknowledged that Bulls management expressed how much they value the two-time All-Star, even stating their desire to see him retire in a Bulls uniform. ‘They were willing to wait and risk losing him next summer as an unrestricted free agent.’ While the likes of Miami’s LeBron James and New York’s Carmelo Anthony, other top players at his position, could opt out of the final years of their contracts and join Deng on the open market, he could still command significant attention as a free agent. A rival executive, speaking on the condition of anonymity, previously said earlier this offseason that he could envision Deng being offered a multi-year contract extension in the range of a $12-million annual salary if he indeed became an unrestricted free agent next summer. That would jibe with what comparable players, such as Golden State’s Andre Iguodala (four years, reportedly $48 million) and Detroit’s Josh Smith (four years, reportedly $56), received this summer. Entering his 10th NBA season, Deng will be 29 next summer, and beyond the forementioned James and Anthony, he compares favorably to other potentially available small forwards.”

Well it’s hard to have a conversation with someone who you are going to trade in a couple months

  • LLC#12

He does so much for that team, led the league in minutes a couple seasons, and all he gets in return is trade rumour after trade rumour after trade rumour…If I was him, I’d seriously consider jumping ship to somewhere I’d be a bit more appreciated.

  • Guy

They should have traded already. He’s too inconsistent and always hurt. Even before Coach Thibs got there.

  • hackatrack

W/o Deng you have no Bulls

W/o Noah you have no Bulls

Deng and Noah are the Bulls identity

Plz Plz sign Darius Miles and QRICH on the CLIPPERs

    The NBA needs some life

Nice reporting by our man Aggrey Sam

  • RKJ92

It’s funny how many people think he will still be on the team.. he’s an asset to trade for the future they aren’t gonna just let him walk. That’s why it makes me laugh when people keep saying Bulls are gonna be contenders.. they would literally have to get the exact same value back in a trade and it’s just not going to happen.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

don’t get ahead of yourself there Heat fan. They could be much better than anyone really expects, I would consider them contenders until they give us a reason not to. Jimmy Butler is a huge difference maker.
    .
And really, a Luol Deng for Wilson Chandler trade is something I see happening around the trade deadline. Or something of that nature, where Chicago trades Deng for a longer contract that’s about $4M less a season to a team that has fallen out of playoff contention that needs to shed salary.

  • RKJ92

I doubt Denver trades Wilson Chandler he’s younger, cheaper, and almost the exact same player. They lose out on that trade unless they get something with Deng because Denver’s not exactly winning a championship anytime soon. Secondly until the Bulls give me reason to believe they aren’t a second round knockout I respectively can’t change my opinion. I loveeeee Jimmy Butlers game that kid is a horse, strong, athletic, great defender, great size at his position, but even with all this we need to see if this is his breakout year or if he is just solid; their is a lot riding on how he develops. To add I’m not a Heat fan my second favorite player is LeBron, and I defend the Heat because of all the obnoxious Laker fans putting Kobe on a pedestal over him, and CONSTANTLY knocking down LeBron’s achievements (And you know what I’m talking about). I am a RAPTOR fan for life, and support no other team I could give a SHlT about the Heat and if they win, or lose.

I would like your opinions on what I said previous to me clearing your misconception up though.

  • bobby

dude if u really think Deng and Chandler are the same player ur nuts. love Wilson, but he hasnt really improved in years…and Deng is an all-star caliber player and a great defender

  • Saleem Rainman

you are to LeBron what Lakers fans are to Kobe, i think is the best way i can put it.

  • RKJ92

Tell me why. Also tell me if I have said anything that is crazy.

  • RKJ92

Wilson Chandler is a knockoff Luol Deng, I NEVER said they are the same, I said almost as in similar.. Wilson Chandler is better offensively, but Luol Deng does the little things better then Chandler, and is great defensively unlike Chandler.
Luol Deng is the better player easy; but Chandler is younger, and cheaper contract, the Nuggets aren’t going anywhere with Luol Deng either I just don’t see them doing it unless they had another big piece to their team to compete with.

……….. i called you a Heat fan sarcastically lol
    .
    .
IF Denver falls apart. There is no reason for them to keep the team together. They have (4) players making around $10 million. A team like that misses the playoffs? They better make some changes.
    .
Luol Deng’s contract expires. IF Denver wants to rebuild, getting rid of their worst big money players is the way to go. And Wilson is the worst, or the second worst (Javale McGee) “big” money player on the team.
    .
That’s where my rationale comes from.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

where are they going with Wilson Chandler?

  • RKJ92

The same place they would be going with Luol Deng lol!

  • Saleem Rainman

im not saying its a bad thing at all. thats what what it means to be a fan,. The word “fan” is a short term for the word fanatic, thats just how its always been.

And what i mean by that is everytime that LeBron is criticized, either by a Lakers fan, or a bulls fan(which is usually the ones that do) or is brought up by anyone, you never cease to get involved in defending him, since he is ur second fav player, thats not surprising.(who’s ur top btw?) You might be oblivious to it but its there. Which again, is okay. But you do comment more about LeBron related things and defend him more than The Seed does Kobe, and that is saying something LOL (even tho u obviously arent as delusional).

Also judging by ur comments above you have this crusade against Kobe jockeys, but kind of forget that not EVERYONE that defends Kobe once in a while is a Kobe fan. Long ago you called me a Kobe slurper because i defended him against some undue criticisms -_-, which i am far from because i barely ever get involved in those debates, and am definitely not exactly a Kobe fan. (im a Steve Nash fan, so that tells you about the typa players i like, not exactly Kobe, eh? lol)

Which is why i say you’re to LeBron what Laker fans are to Kobe, which is fine. Do your thing

  • pposse

the story of the decade would be if deng, noah, butler rose and thibs play/coach their whole careers together and continuously take a leak on lebron no matter where he goes. Hopefully deng is willing to restructure his contract to make like 9 mill a year or something ahh foock one can dream

  • RKJ92

Lol good! — I feel like.. Denver right now is too young, and developed to suck and blow everything up, and they will definitely try to hold on to their core of Ty Lawson, Gallanari, McGee (expendable through contract), Chandler, Faried, and JJ Hickson. Although to your point everyone is expendable, but Ty Lawson.
    .
The trade would just seem insignificant to Denver, but would sure help out the Bulls that’s why I don’t see the rational. There is too many if’s there for me, but I’m not arguing your opinion either because I think it’s a solid case just idk if Bulls would take on McGee’s contract because their cheapskates, and Wilson trade would need another contract with it to add to 14 million.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

they wouldn’t be keeping Luol Deng dude

  • RKJ92

I mean Denver not the Bulls I know Luol’s leaving, just refer to my comment above :)

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Denver is in cap penalty territory. If they miss the playoffs it literally makes no sense to keep a core of guys who are over the age of 25 and ALL….EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. is overpaid. You need to look at this from a business perspective, not a basketball one. You can’t be a middle of the road team who either barely makes the playoffs or doesn’t at all full of overpaid very good ROLE players. That is literally the best way to lose money.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

If Denver misses the playoffs. Where are they going with a 27 year old Wilson Chandler?

  • RKJ92

My favorite player is Kevin Garnett by a mile, always has been, and always will be, he is the reason I wanted to play basketball growing up.
    .
Saleem I want you to know I fight because there is like a trillion Laker fans.. pretty sure it’s the largest fan base in the NBA; and I have to deal with pure bullsh*t that spews out some of their mouths 24/7 so obviously i’m not gonna sit there and be like ok.. sure lets just let that slide.. I think Kobe is a top shooting guard of all time!! but when people say Kobe won his first 3 rings on PAR with Shaq at that time it’s like wtf? no he didn’t he played amazing but Shaq was a whole ‘nother beast in his own, and comments like that, that make me look like I hate Kobe (which I find unfair criticism because I respect him so much) and I truly don’t! if you gave me your thoughts I would answer them statistically, and I never answer emotionally. Anything I say I will hand you a factual proof, unless it’s a comment of opinion, and any fights I take it’s because they’re deserved.

    .
I don’t have a crusade I just don’t like delusional people who think things that aren’t true, again statistically speaking, and when their answer to me is they see it with their eyes, and that they watch the games so they know what they’re talking about it numbs my brain because I have league pass, AND I know the advanced numbers people don’t bother to crunch so can you see how it erks me just a little?
    .
I’m sorry I called you a slurper there are some definite ones on this site though, that can’t be overlooked. But I am not a LeBron slurper, just a fan of his game, but more importantly a REALIST when I talk about him. I don’t make stupid comments about his statistical achievements, or make outrageous claims, and that’s the difference between me and the headcases..
    .
Again I apologize for my aggressiveness in the past.

  • RKJ92

Tell that to the Raptors, Bucks, Hawks, Trailblazers, Knicks, and Timberwolves. I hear you loud and clear man.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

they did that how? Raptors just got rid of Andrea Bargnani (worst big money player) – Bucks just accidentally got rid of both Jennings and Ellis (worst and only big money players at the time) – Trailblazers keep getting hurt, not really the same. They spent big money on 4 guys in the last 7 years, (Aldridge, Roy, Oden, Batum) – Knicks….ok, the Knicks count. – Timberwolves don’t count yet. Give them a year or two.

  • CzechMate

First I brewed and boozed her, I really ain’t Noah but when my D.Rose she said deng

  • Saleem Rainman

hey man, like i said it wasnt a bad thing. Keep doing you.

And nah, no hard feeling about the agression, i dont catch feelings like that lol. The only reason i brought it up was because it was an incident that shows what i was talking about, no worries though. I do see your point.

  • Mike Gilbert

lol like the Bulls front office starts the trade rumors
