New York Knicks Fans Already Booing Andrea Bargnani

Welcome to Gotham, Bargs. Boo! The Knicks faithful weren’t exactly kind to newcomer Andrea Bargnani in his first game at MSG. Per the NY Post: “The Knicks beat Milwaukee 90-83, but Bargnani might have been the sole lowlight. He came off the bench and had just six points on 3-of-9 shooting with more turnovers (three) than rebounds (two), and his minus-11 in 17 ineffective minutes was the second worst on the team. ‘Andrea had a tough start, but he picked it up. Eventually he’ll figure it out, and it’s my job to help him figure it out,’ said head coach Mike Woodson, who plans to start Bargnani on Thursday against the Bulls in Chicago. [...] Bargnani , who was hampered by injuries in his past two seasons in Toronto, has a long way to go. He debuted with a terrible first half, missing all four of his shots with two turnovers and two fouls. The crowd booed after just the first two misses, jeering after he clanked a short 8-foot attempt 32 seconds into the second quarter. ‘This is New York, the Garden,’ Tyson Chandler said. ‘It’s The Show. Once he gets beyond that, he’ll be fine.’ New York moves fast, but Bargnani might have been jeered quicker than any Knick in recent memory, after just 4:34 on the court. Still, Bargnani said he wasn’t taken aback by the boos. ‘No. I missed shots the first half,’ Bargnani said with a shrug. ‘They were all good shots. I’ll keep taking them and keep working like I’m doing. Again, offense has never been a problem. It’s just a matter of getting back in the rhythm, and it’s going to come. I’m not concerned about the offense. It’s never been a problem. It’s a transition. If there’s an open shot I’m going to take it. I’m just out of rhythm right now. In the first half I was out of rhythm and I missed shot. But that happens. It’s a process. I’m not worried about that. Offense has never been a problem in 11 years as pro.’”

Does this come to the surprise of anyone?

Over on Raptors HQ there was a bet on how many games it wud take for fans to start booing Bargnani, with the over/under starting at 13ish games. I dont think anyone expected it to be the first game though.

Bargnani keeps saying “Offence has never been a problem” But it has for the past 2 seasons. You’re strictly a scorer, that has not been able to score. whats up with that?

  • Dagger

As a Raptors fan, it’s really hard to keep from gloating right now.

  • Max

    Most boo’ed? player ever? lol

  • JibbsIsBallin

As a Raptors fan, how do you feel about Drake being the team ambassador?

  • Dagger

Terrible. It’s tacky, meaningless, and reeks of desperation. Let’s just try to build a great team without resorting to gimmicks.

  • JibbsIsBallin

They need at least one or two big names on that roster, then players will start being attracted to the Raptors. Maybe the management is hoping that Drake’s publicity attracts that type of player. I’ve never seen any NBA team do this before where they hire an big name entertainer to be an ambassador.

That’s got to be some sort of record. Getting booed after just 4:34 on the court. Well played, Bargnani. Still can’t believe Masai pulled off that trade.

By a home crowd? Jim McIlvaine must be top three…

I say the following as a Raps supporter since the days of Vincenzo Esposito: NY must have dumb fans. You just don’t boo a guy in the first game. Why would they? Over a couple missed shots? As a Raptor, Bargnani didn’t live up to the hype, but when he was healthy he could score. I’m glad he was traded, because we all needed a fresh start – but he didn’t leave like McGrady or Vince did. He just didn’t produce on account of a bunch of nagging injuries. Give it a minute, Knicks fans. Or just go to a jazz club and watch Dolan sing “the blues”.

Knicks fans spent 2 months trying to talk themselves into Bargnani helping them. Even the coach fell for it. Now they’re seeing what he is. He’s not a “stretch 4″, he didn’t need to become a 2nd or 3rd option, he didn’t need a change of scenery. He is simply a 7-foot guy who can run fast but can’t pass, rebound, play defense or shoot. I.e. right now he’s just a tall guy who is no good at basketball.

Drake being a Raptors Ambassador is not any different from Jay Z being an Ambassador for the Brooklyn Nets.

  • greg

I’m pretty sure this has more to do with the all star game in 2016 bringing revenue rather than the basketball team, I dont think it will hurt us in any way, and drake is a big raptor fan until the playoffs start so it is genuine.

    ah jay z?
he made far more from this role than his .00000001% ownership stake.

  • Ugh

He’s your problem now NY… I said it once and I’ll say it again, “Masai for President (or i guess Prime Minister)…”

  • paolo medici

ridicolous. booing bargnani has become a new sport for dummies. booing a player after 2 missed shots in the opening game of his first season with the team is the most ridicolous thing ever seen. brainless people.
