LeBron James Has Had a Sore Back for Weeks

It was obvious on Thursday night against the LA Clippers that LeBron James wasn’t his normal, dominant self. James says he’s been dealing with lower back soreness for a few weeks now. Per the AP: “He revealed specifics about the issue Thursday night after scoring 18 points to help the Miami Heat top the Los Angeles Clippers, 102-97. ‘I’ve had a history of it, but I always keep a good eye on it so I should be all right,’ James said. ‘It ain’t a great feeling, I’ll tell you that — especially at nighttime when you’re trying to sleep.’ James has worn heat packs to keep his back loose at times through Miami’s first six games, and this is not the first time that he’s dealt with back problems early in a season. He began applying the heat packs after diving for a loose ball in the first quarter of the win over the Clippers, on a play where he got off the court shaking his left hand. Turns out, he also felt like his back locked on the play. ‘He didn’t look as spry as he normally does,’ Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. It’s way too early to draw any real conclusions from numbers, but James’ scoring and rebounding are down so far this season — albeit slightly — from his normal rates. He’s averaging 24.3 points, 7.7 assists and 5.5 rebounds through six games, shooting 56 percent from the field and 48 percent from 3-point range. ‘Just trying to get healthy,’ James said. ‘But I’m working it. I’m doing everything I can to get back to my normal self. … With our medical staff here, we continue to hone in on what we can do to get better. I think the good thing about it is it’s not my first time having back issues. So I should be all right.’”

    Those are down numbers?

I bets it’s a mobility issue though. Something is imbalanced somewhere but his immense strength allows him to overcompensate. Incidentally, this is how it started for Nash and t Mac

  • star

hate him or love him. hope its nothing bad

  • Above_You

Last night on the sidelines they were wrapping his up back every time he was off the court, so I knew something was bothering him. He was def off last night.

  • jessedogg

he did a LeBron against Toronto.. but yeah.. besides that.. looking more like Paul George.

This kind of thing always makes me uneasy; sore, stiff back with no specific cause. It may be nothing or is it the beginning of something chronic…? LeBron has been pretty blessed so far injury wise…hope his turn isn’t coming up.

  • jnight

Awww poor Rose. All that called improved explosiveness and still can’t stop turning the ball over, bricking shots, and helping his team lose.

  • Max

I was noticing something was wrong, he jogs different.

LeBron, like my man Messi, isnt in form yet. Give him a few weeks of playing “subpar” ball and it’ll be striaght.

Maybe that’s because he never misses games his whole career&is playing 37-40 minutes every single game. His last 2-3 years were remarkable but had to be extremely draining on all grounds but especially physically. The heat should watch their boy, maybe old D-Wade can team on his back for a while, doing this little favour for his homie Bron Bron who drag his ass for a loooong time.

Miami would not have won any of the previous three ECFs without Wade…

Not if it’s a legitimately inhibiting, chronic back injury.

people would kill to have those numbers when they are in “slump”. i saw that one game against the nets and then it was very noticeable though that something was wrong

  • Anthony

Bike riding with a book bag…sprinting on soft sand…playing on asphalt….then distance running on the street WITH a book bag…will give you a sore back Bron Bron. (New Lebron commercial reference)

  • TR

He took a lot of time off this summer compared to his usual schedule. I think its a matter of just getting the body right. Its going to take some time.

  • thebossman15

in a couple more weeks your gonna be looking like a dumass

  • Wings23

You’ve got bandwagon written all over you

  • trey

I guess that makes you a couple of weeks ahead of schedule then.

  • TR

    I’m a Knicks fan…

  • monkeyball

They’re down numbers, for LBJ, maybe Larry Bird. That’s about it.

  • 23

And they don’t even reach the ECF without Bron.

  • The Philosopher

    It doesn’t matter.
The King is the greatest ball player on Earth.
And if he retired today, he is a legit top 15 – 20 talent of all – time.
Theoretically, there is nothing left to prove.

  • thebossman15

how so? cuz im able to look past the first couple of games in which a former mvp level player(who has been sidelined for over a year), has been struggling trying to find a rhythm? Idiot, you know nothing about this game

  • Kobe

    dumb ass*

  • thebossman15

It is to be expected from having to carry the team for this long.

  • bball knowledge

his back is sore from carrying his team for the past 4 years.

  • zeek

  • Caboose

DON’T KEEP DOING PUSH UPS WITH YOUR KID ON YOUR BACK! I don’t know how he has the time for that, he seems to do it like every other timeout during games.

  • bball knowledge

was only talking about his Miami tenure.
