Derrick Rose Reportedly Worried Bulls Are Going to Rebuild

The Bulls have an uncertain future ahead of them: While their superstar guard returns from injury over the next year, they need to decide if they’re going to re-sign Luol Deng (a free agent next summer), amnesty Carlos Boozer (or re-sign him when he hits free agency in the summer of 2015), and whether they’ll build their roster through free agency or turn the team over to youngsters like Jimmy Butler and Taj Gibson and rebuild. Derrick Rose, a star who—when healthy—believes he should be competing for a title, wants nothing to do with any sort of rebuild, according to the Daily News: ”Derrick Rose has real concerns these days, but those have nothing to do with returning from his latest round of major knee surgery. Rather, his concerns center on his team’s future makeup. Rose has told several confidantes that he is worried that the Bulls will start to let the team hit the skids by allowing key players to leave via free agency, forcing him to go through a rebuilding program that he wants no part of. ’Derrick is worried that the Bulls are going to lose what they have,’ said a league source. ‘He doesn’t want to go through rebuilding.’ But that could be exactly how the Bulls treat this latest setback involving their franchise player, who had season-ending knee surgery on Nov. 25. Chicago is not expected to meet Luol Deng’s salary demands next summer when he becomes a free agent. Carlos Boozer has one more season to go on his contract and the Bulls aren’t expected to bring him back. How they would proceed if those major losses really do happen is anyone’s guess.”

they have to get rid of boozer

Not to blame Rose, but this potential decision is mostly due to his injuries. Chicago would likely pony up for talent through a re-sign or a free agent, but he hasn’t given them any production in 2 years, and they’re not about to overpay for guys that are considered secondary pieces. Whether Chicago does choose to go young/more affordable is anyone’s guess. But due to his injuries, if they do, I think that everyone will at least understand the logic.

This is the way I see it:
The Bulls should approach the situation like they never had Rose from now on. This means amnesty Boozer, trade Deng, keep developing Butler and let Gibson start. The hardest part is what to do with Noah. With him, the Bulls are too good to get a good enough draft pick. Without him, it just doesn’t feel right as he pretty much symbolises with the Bulls are.

Sorry I mean let Deng walk

If the Bulls make the playoffs, and Rose is healthy, he should play. So what if he is terrible, the Bulls aren’t going to make any noise without him. If the Bulls could sneak the 6th seed, they would likely get drawn against the Hawks, and the Bulls with a healthy Rose could certainly beat the Hawks, and after that, anything could happen. If he comes back and is terrible for 4-7 games, at least he gets some rust out of the way, and can start next season rust free.

im real curious to know what Deng’s salary demands will be. He is in the dead center of his prime right now but never seems to get the credit he deserves from media analysts etc. Everyone refers to him as a ‘professional’ but really who in the NBA is he behind at the SF position? KD, Carmello, LBJ, Paul George (I guess)…and then who?

I would say a team like Charlotte would offer him good money but Henderson is playing well..all other bad teams are tanking for SFs in the draft (Wiggins, Parker)

better yet trade him. might get some picks back if u don’t plan on keeping him after the summer.

    pippen already got started

Derrick Rose should have seen this coming. For about 4 years the Bulls have been thought of as a contender to the Heat. When they lose everyone says they need a scoring SG, yet they haven’t made that final move happen. Teams that win championships are able to make that move, just like when Sheed took the Pistons to the next level

Quite honestly the only rebuilding Rose should be focused on is his knee. Stay out of the medias eye, keep quiet, and get healthy. The franchise has to do what’s best for the franchise.

read the article…’close conifdants of Rose’ is the source..not Rose himself.

Your basically assuming Rose relayed these messages to these ‘close confidants’ and then demanded that these ‘close confidants’ go to US weekly to report Rose’s concerns.

  • Fat Lever

Why would his confidants care enough to make that statement about the Bulls? Either way, it’s not a good look for rose whether he made the comments himself or his camp did. After the way the all in campaign went, rose should just keep quiet and focus all his attention to getting back by April, if the bulls are still in the hunt.

  • pposse

i think i speak for the majority of bulls fans and probably the players when i say that we all want to see the current bulls roster including Rose in the playoffs healthy atleast once in the near future. I have no idea why his confidants would fuel the media with these comments, but they did and I agree its not a good look for Rose but for the most part he is doing everything that your suggesting he should do.

Sorry, but you shouldn’t let a player like Deng walk. Boozer on the other hand….. let him walk. And doesn’t Boozer still have 1 year left on his contract? Start Taj, find another big for the paint and make Boozer come off the bench for his remaining time with the Bulls. He has been a liability within Thib’s defensive schemes from the start… and always disappears in big games.

Bulls Best chance is to either trade or get rid of players for salary cap space and try to land franchise players like maybe Carmelo, or K-Love next year big “Maybe”, they have the cap and players to do it!!!

  • Nason

Rose has needed another guy who can create his own shot for years. Hopefully when he comes back they’ll have one.

  • Chester

Derrick Rose should focus on the RETURN 2 lol

  • Foxx Dot PH

I think, they can release Boozer to replace Taj to starting lineup and get a star player SG and a good backup PF and PG. Release L. Deng to get a great new backups bench.

  • Boonie K.

I dont think Rose can blame this on the team though. He was cleared to come back since last year and he chose to wait. We all calm about it. Then he came back and gone again in just over 10 games. That raise question about his body. He should be worry about whether Bulls chose to trade him when there is still value in it.

  • JL

I think he’s on the Iggy level (thought I think he’s better than Iggy).

  • JL

Release Deng? You mean trade him.

  • Youngindy21

Deng is behind a healthy Danny Granger.

  • Blitzk3r

If I was Rose I would be more worried about getting back to some sort of playable physical condition- rather then letting slip to people around him that he doesn’t want to see a rebuild.

If the Bulls want to be relevant with out Rose they need a rebuild. Cut Boozer, apart from a a few solid performances he has never really suited the Bulls playing style. They need to look for a decent trade for Deng who really is there only valuable asset outside of Noah and Rose, and they are going to struggle to resign him unless he takes a pay cut.

Now I’m a big fan of Deng and what he adds to the team defensively and his commitment no matter what is going on around him. The problem with Deng is the salary that he commands and that he lacks a consistent offensive game- he really struggles to create his own shots. He is not a franchise leading player but what a 2nd or 3rd option on a team. I think there a re quite a few teams out there that could do with him.

  • TR

Danny Granger???? Kawhi isnt as good as Deng yet either. You’re trippin’

  • Foxx Dot PH

They can release Deng to gain money and get a new superstar or they can trade him for a good player. It’s all about money.

  • JL

Trade is a feasible idea, but nobody would release Deng. There’s no point in releasing him. You don’t gain money by releasing a player (unless he doesn’t clear waivers, which is a possibility for Deng). But he’s way too valuable to do that. He’s a very good starter. You don’t drop him for a bunch of bench guys. They are also over the cap, so releasing him won’t get them more money towards free agents. Past players who have been release are usually either amnestied or old and/or useless. Deng is neither.

I think the problem with him is that he’s a solid championship piece, but the Bulls need a second star next to Rose. Deng, Noah, and Boozer are guys who are a step below that tier. Boozer is the most guy to be amnestied. Deng could be traded for draft picks. Rose is still young but his knees are not. Their problem is that even with Rose their team is still a bit below the Pacers/Heat level. Most of their guys are as developed as they ever will be. The Pacers grew (and still growing) into their current level. An ideal trade would be something like what the Sixers did with the Pelicans.
