Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Questions Andrew Bynum’s Commitment to Basketball

Andrew Bynum’s suspension has given new life to allegations the big fella simply doesn’t enjoy playing and training for basketball all that much. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bynum’s old mentor during his Laker days, weighed in. As did Phil Jackson:

I believe Andrew has always had the potential to help a team when he puts his heart into it. He just doesn’t seem to be consistent with his commitment to the game. That can lead to alot of frustration for any team that has signed him.

When I worked with Andrew I found him to be bright & hardworking but I think he got bored with the repetitive nature of working on basketball fundamentals day in and day out… but they are the keys to long term success.

In my opinion Andrew is the type of person who walks to the beat of “a different drummer”. So we won’t know the facts until Andrew decides to tell us what actually is the issue and shares his thoughts.

Bynum is that kid that was forced to play ball because he was tall even though its not his favorite thing to do, happened to develop some elite skills, but ultimately, he doesn’t love the game so he can’t stay motivated to work on it.

It’s already well documented that Bynum’s commitment to basketball has been…umm.. ..what’s the word I’m looking for….pretty cavalier.

Yup. Everyone pushed him to play basketball while he dreamed of one day becoming a professional bowler.

What I find amazing is that Kareem actually had positive things to say about Bynum, but not Dwight. It’s sad that Bynum doesn’t have the type of passion or drive to be an elite player in the league. He definitely could have been a monster if he was motivated from within.

Not that many in the league (especially legends) have positive things to say about Dwight. The guy is a clown, always has been.

I can see that as the plot line in BAWL: SEMI PRO 2 the sequel.
