Nate Robinson Says Referees Hate Him

Denver Nuggets guard Nate Robinson has a hate/hate relationship with the refs. Lil’ Nate is convinced that they’re out to get him, but that won’t change Robinson’s approach. Per the Denver Post: “Robinson picked up his second technical foul in as many games on Friday night in the Nuggets’ win over the Knicks. ‘He’s always wound up,’ Nuggets coach Brian Shaw said, with a grin that quickly faded away. ‘That’s what you get with Nate Robinson. So we just have to continue to keep working on him on that. I told him, let me deal with the referees, you just play the game. But that’s easier said than done.’ Shaw said, ‘I’m going to have to talk to him about controlling his emotions. It’s almost like he has a target on his back, and the referees are just not going to tolerate him saying anything to them at all.’ [...] Robinson smirked when talking about it. ‘They hate me, they hate me,’ he said. ‘I don’t know why, but it is what it is. I already know I’ve got the target on my back, but I’ll play through it; I don’t care. I really don’t. It doesn’t bother me none. If I get a call, I get a call. If I don’t, I don’t. If I get a tech, hopefully it’s not in the fourth quarter. Hopefully I don’t get any more. But I know I will. It’s nothing new for me.’”

There was a sequence in last nights game – Hansbrough shoves Nate to the floor going for a rebound, Nate gets back up, screams at Ty Lawson for about 5 seconds until he gets the ball, yells at everyone to get out of the way, shakes Hansbrough into next week and then splashes a 3 in his face. Amazing.

I saw that, you don’t mess with Nate Nitro and get away with it! It’s really disappointing that GM’s still see him as a gimmick and not a great basketball player. He is better than some of the starting PG’s hands down, but doesn’t get the contract offers that a lot of other players do. I understand he’s got some “baggage” but still….JR Smith? Nate shoots a career 46% from the field, 80% from the line, 37% from 3. What gives?

Is that a fine I see coming?

In all fairness to Nate, when Denver is playing, it should be mandatory for at least one of the refs to be 5’6″ or less.

I am sure the Bulls would love to have him right about now. Couldn’t believe they didn’t lock him up after the way he played in the playoffs. Oh .well………….

It’s kind of a catch 22… Nate plays off his (positive) emotions, so if he tones down he won’t be the player we love to watch, but on the other hand, those same emotions could get him tossed…

Is there a video of this anywhere?!

    but kirk loves him

Sweet play, but I think it reveals a bit about why he’s got difficulty keeping a job. That attitude can’t be terribly popular with his teammates. Or coaches.

Yeah I agree to an extent, you could tell Lawson didn’t wanna pass him the ball!

  • Gary

They do hate him. He whines and complains from the time he gets into a game until he’s taken out…and still complains while he’s on the bench…which has to do with him taking a stupid foul and is the reason he’s taken out of the game. His routine gets old very fast for all involved…refs, teammates, fans, coaches, and ownership. Me, me, me…look at me!

Talented kid, no denying that, but he’s never wrong, it’s always the refs who are wrong.

I hate the Bulls for not keeping Nate the Great…. Especially know that D. Rose is out again…… Nate deserves a big contract and respect from the NBA… Also Monta Ellis need to be respected by the NBA….

  • house

Yeah, dumbass management ftl. I would love to see him on my Bulls again. He gives everything every time he is out there.

Robinson is like that wild chick you know you should stop dealing with but you do not because the sex is incredible and she is always involved in some sort of adrenaline inducing excitement. It is all good…until you end up with an STD or robbed in some dark alley.

If Nate Robinson is a primary player on your team all that means is that you have personnel issues.

    lol awesome. former teammates.

Yup. Which is why I didn’t hate it when NY traded him. Nate can giveth so much, but when Nate’s emotions get out of control, Nate can taketh away the W. He’s much more fun to watch from afar. That being said, I’d love him back in NY this year. Knicks need something that doesn’t suck.

  • Gary

EXACTLY Mack!….we know better, but keep going back for more!
