Paul George Says He Would Beat Kevin Durant 1-on-1

Despite considering him the toughest cover in the NBA, Paul George still believes he’d come out on top if he went 1-on-1 with Kevin Durant. Per the Oklahoman: “Throughout the early part of this season, NBA TV has been running a hypothetical one-on-one tournament, matching the game’s greatest current players and allowing the fans to vote on who would win. The current showdown: Kevin Durant vs. Paul George. The in-progress fan results: Durant 66 percent to George’s 34 percent. ‘One-on-one, that’s what I do, that’s what I grew up on,’ Durant said when asked of the hypothetical matchup. ‘That’s how I kinda molded my game. So I feel as though he is one of the top one-on-one players and I am one of the top, as well. It’d be a good matchup. I won’t say who’d win, but it’d be a good matchup.’ George, however, was more up front with his prediction when asked by NBA TV. ‘What am I going to do? Beat him,’ George said. ‘I think it would be tougher for him one-on-one. When we play them, he does a lot of movement, so I think it would be a pretty even match.’”

Paul George and Roy Hibbert need to be gagged. At this point they probably think they will be able to cure cancer before they finish their careers.

  • TTN

PG is starting to talk to much, I understand confidence is supposed to be apart of the game but he ain’t doing that much in the league to be running his mouth like he been doing lately. He had some big games last year during the playoffs and he had some really small ones too. Bottom line he not there yet.

Not to mention he need to be tested if he think he can handle Durant one on one.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

I don’t doubt it. Durant isn’t particulary great defender on ball.

  • Dagger

For a guy who’s played at an elite level for about 2 months, George has an awful lot to say about Durant and Lebron.

  • arjae

One on One. Call your own fouls, does Paul George even see the ball if durant gets possession first? Also, taking nothing away from George, how good would he be if he didn’t have the best defensive C in the game behind him? Or how good would Durant be if he did? Paul George is great but Kevin Durant is a monster. He would receive every accolade and all the pomp and praise as anyone to ever play if not for that #6 guy. Gotta appreciate Durant. Offensively, he’s 6’11″ Steph Curry.

  • Dfrance

I wish Durant would just say he’d bust George’s azz. Why do these guys feel the need to be PC about every question they’re aske?. This is a fun, non-nba topic, just say you’d destroy him one on one and be done with it because we know y’all won’t ever play anyway.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

I see your points understand them. But one on one make it take it or straight up. I mean these NBA cats could go 15-0 depending on the day. The center argument doesn’t apply here because paul george is a great 1 on 1 defender so durant isn’t going to blow by him and PG can guard the first step.

Bro when will slam sponsor a 1 on 1 tournament for all the commentors.

  • bike

    No. You. Wouldn’t.

  • Cortez Mack

    That is exactly right.

Is anyone still waiting for that Irving v. Bryant matchup for $50,000?

  • Cortez Mack

“does Paul George even see the ball if durant gets possession first?”

    Yes.

Durant is a beast but let’s be serious.

  • thebossman15

George would get more stops than durant would, and thats really what it comes down too. First to 11 win by 2 i would put money on george to win 14-12

  • thebossman15

pretty sure they were tested just the other night when he locked lebrons up in the 2nd half and scored 13 in the 2nd half to win the game

  • danpowers

uhm no paul, in all likelihood you wouldnt

  • Mvp23100

Locked bron up stop it if anything he locked himself up when George was on him he was blowing by him with ease plus the first half Lebron had him looking like a rookie

  • Enigmatic

The Pacers are obviously really good but maaaaan are they cocky as hell.

  • thebossman15

1st half dont mean nothing if in the second half u turning the ball over/airballing big shots/missing huge free throws etc etc..plus who won the game? thats what it really comes down to

  • LP @ThisisEther

“Oh, Durant would kill me 1-on-1…No doubt. I would go down a’ swingin’, but I don’t stand a chance.” – Paul George.

  • kbak

get rid of the joke of the dunk contest and add 1 on 1 to the all star festivities

  • 604ricy

I like them and all… but why do they(IND) blabber so much???? They are doing good then just shut up and keep playing that way and people’s approval will follow.

  • The Seed

    Cosign

  • Logan Heath Sharp

The pacers are the hornets from 06-10 started young with a emerging star, but ultimately fall every year. Season accolades for Byron Scott but it does not mean anything. Cant pay everyone and they will fade away. Makes for headlines but lets not kid ourselves. Pacers out west everynight. I dont know the exact record vs the west for them it could be above 500 but thats out of context bc playing everynight in the west schedule destroys you. Not an okc fan but durant wess are good

  • Logan Heath Sharp

So let george and crew have their time in the sun

  • TTN

I don’t mean that tested, I mean tested as in for DOPE, as in he on something powerful if he think after a handful of good games he is taking on arguably the 2nd best player in world and winning.

I understand he is not supposed to say he would lose but he shouldn’t have entertained the notion.

I’m not a miami fan but take into account Indiana was at home and they are a good team so what did you expect? I say this cause you are a documented Lebron hater and I know you bought fully into that win.

  • TTN

You would lose your money too, KD is not a cake walk like you think.

He is exceptionally long and he does take guys one on one. In a one on one game PG will not have 4 other possible obstacles/defenders to get in KDs way. KD shoots from everywhere very accurately and he puts the ball on the floor and at his height and length that’s a lot to deal with. He is a three (should be 4 could be 5) time scoring champion for a reason. Anyone of the dudes always in the running for that tiltle (Kobe, Lebron, melo) are not easy to guard straight up so imagine a one on one.

  • Castrovi

That’s why their fortune will end this post-season.

  • Castrovi

    Lmao

  • TTN

5 by ones so that they could add a good pool of players, 5 would Maybe speed up the games and allow more players to be showcased. That’s a good idea you should sell that to the NBA seriously. Because the dunk contest and skills contest ain’t getting it done.

  • brothasdontsurf

This dude is only a couple more statements like this from rubbing people the wrong way

  • Brandan E.

Paul george will beat lebron & durant in 1 one 1…why because he something the other 2 dont do…play defense!!!

  • thebossman15

How does me saying the game would be a 14-12 win for george indicate that i think it would be a “cake walk” in any way……

You dont need to describe durant to me, i have eyes too, him and durant have the same body type albeit an inch or 2 so there is no real advantage size wise, and definitely not strength wise, for durant.

They both score the ball well but it comes down to defensive stops(like i clearly mentioned) and its clear as day to a blind man that george is a better defender, which is why i said he would edge durant.

George isnt in the same league as kobe/melo in a one on one..not sure why u brought they names up..i never said they were easy to guard

  • LakeShow

    Nope.

    Not even close.

  • keyon dooling

I couldn’t have been the only one who saw PG beat his chest like a chimpanzee when he scored his FIRST BUCKET all game in the 3rd quarter. The guy’s annoying

  • JaeB

I’ve been saying this for years. I think the NBA would be afraid of the injuries it might cause because of the ultra-competitiveness that would go on. Also bruised ego’s.

  • jwshuaa

PG isn’t consistent enough to out score KD

  • Da man

You can tell you all do not play basketball. How would you just say another person will beat you. I don’t care who it is I will say I will beat him till he prove me wrong. Have some type of faith in yourself.

  • Just. Sayin

Lebron finished 2nd in defensive player of the year twice…once he lost to Dwight once to Tyson Chandler. he is 5x all defensive 1st team…Both Lebron and KD would beat Paul George 1 on 1.

  • Arjae

I’m being pretty serious. Obviously there’s some hyperbole but seriously, look at how efficient durant is in an iso heavy offense with an entire team geared specifically toward stopping him. Imagine if he has only one guy to deal with. Even PG. I mean KD has been seeing the best defenders teams have to offer since HS. Guy is a top 10 scorer ever.

  • Arjae

It’d be a great matchup for sure. And PG is probably a better two way player. But man idk if PGs defensive numbers are that good if he’s playing Durant every night. Durant made a statement when they played this week. I’d actually love to see that Asa finals matchup. Most intriguing matchup in the L to me. Hope these guys are rivals for a long time.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

LEBRON bro, Lebron is like Amazo and PG is Lex Luthor Durant is Superman…. They aren’t rivals man it’s more like mortal kombat everyone trying to get to that number 1 spoooooot

  • Flyguywitabowtie

C’mon now the all-defensive first team has become a popularity contest. Kobe Bryant gets a nod like every year & he’s not even that great of a defender. Also last year they left out the defensive player of the year off of the defensive first team

  • TTN

You didn’t use your eyes or head to make that dumbass assessment you made about the one on one game to start with.

They have the same body type? Ass KD has a 7’4 wingspan if you knew the first thing about basketball you would know that’s useful. KD don’t get his shot blocked often. That’s just one difference I won’t waste time and list others.

PG scores the ball well according to you. Well KD has been damn the near the best scorer since he got in the NBA look it up dummy.

According to you PG ain’t in Kobe or Melos league as far as one on one. But KD has beat out both for scoring titles in recent years so KD is in theirs. I used them to illustrate my point of how talented KD is a scorer. I never said you said they were easy to guard.

You my man are dumb ass hell, I don’t think you are capable of having a basketball conversation. You are incapable of comprehending what you read. If you do read?

  • CKLOH

What else is he supposed to say, as a competitor?

The Lakers, Celtics, Heat, and Bulls have all of them been equally pompous. Get over yourselves.

  • JML-G

    hahaha

  • Sérgio

Man, seriously, George needs to chill down a bit. He would’nt win a one on one match against a lot of players in this League, much less KD, the mothaf@ckin 3 time-scoring champion.

  • COYNE

All Star Weekend – 1 on 1 competition between these two.
    – Rebound competition between Noah, Hibbert and Drummond.
Really though Paul, you will not stop KD from scoring but i like your confidence.
The cockiness of the Pacer will make the Playoffs a lot of fun this year.

  • bjwalker82

Like Paul George a lot but I believe we saw what would happen last Sunday night.

K-Diggity torched him, and the result would be the same without the other players on the court.

  • Slamson

Lebron should be Lex Luthor, because he’s bald.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

    So the force

  • thebossman15

lol man, you are the dumass. ” KD has a 7’4 wingspan” and what do you think paul george’s wingspan is smartass? 7’0..if you think a 4 inch difference(2 inches each arm) is a big advantage, then clearly you dont know anything about the game, or your the soft type to make excuses like “hes taller than me, hes older than me” etc.

Not to mention Paul george more than makes up for the disadvantage(if you can even call it that) length wise, with his athleticism and defense.

Ok KD has been one of the top scorers in the league, lets look at this year, kd is averaging 28 points to paul george’s 24..take away 4 points(at the minimum) which are earned through bullshit like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5nZD_zvlOI
and the bullshit sweep he does where he goes under his defenders arm and gets the bullshit free throws, and now they are both averaging 24 points a game..not to mention he gets the ball literally almost every trip down the floor and its either a durant iso or a westbrook iso.

Paul george on the other hand plays on a system team and scores within a system, thats why his ppg is slightly lower and a reason why you have to look at stats in perspective.

PG is not in melo/kobe’s league because they have more than just perimeter skills(post game) however im imagining this game to be hypothetically played in they primes and melo has never been known as a great defender however he does have his times and if he decided to defend, PG is not in his league, however if he plays d the way he normally does than PG has a chance so thats one thing i take back.

  • Youngindy21

KD had 36 and Paul George had 32. They torched each other.

  • Youngindy21

When Kobe says stuff like this nobody says anything. But when an upcoming Superstar like Paul George says something all you guys wanna get mad. Hop off Durant’s jock. There is no reason why Paul George couldn’t beat Durant. You guys only mad cus Durant and Lebron are the NBA’s poster children and Paul George is relatively new on the scene. Just cus he’s just now breaking out doesn’t mean that he couldn’t beat Durant. I swear people treat Kobe Bryant like he came in the league with 5 rings, but Kobe wasn’t that great his first few years either just like George but people tend to ignore that fact for some reason.

  • Eugene Rice

Kd sat out the 4th quarter
