Eric Bledsoe to Reportedly Miss 4-6 Weeks After Knee Surgery

When the Phoenix Suns announced last week that guard Eric Bledsoe had undergone right knee surgery, they hinted at a possibility of Bledsoe returning at some point this season. The aim, per reports, is for the 24-year old star to rejoin the team in 4-6 weeks. Per Arizona Sports 98.7 and the AZ Republic:

It was his second surgery in 27 months to address a meniscus tear in his right knee, which had been repaired in October 2011 and sidelined him for almost four months. Bledsoe is expected to return this season, perhaps sometime after the mid-February All-Star break, and that speedier timetable means that a piece of the same meniscus was removed rather than a repeat repair that would sideline him for months.

“We were very pleased about the outcome of the surgery and look forward to Eric returning before the end of the season,” Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby said after Friday morning’s surgery, performed by team physician Thomas Carter in Phoenix.

“Guys are going to have to step it up,” Suns coach Jeff Hornacek said. “We don’t have that other guy in there that when Goran (Dragic) doesn’t have the ball, that can make plays. But we still have to execute our plays and try not to say, ‘Hey, I’m going to be the guy that picks it up.’ They’re just going to have to be more focused.

“It’s unfortunate that he’s going to miss some games but I think the more they play together, the more they’ll get used to the rotation and hopefully that’ll make us better.”

This is what D-Rose should have done.

why? this isn’t the second time Derrick Rose has torn his meniscus, it is on the other hand the second time for Bledsoe. The only reason Bledsoe had it removed is because it didn’t hold the first time.

I totally agree. I don’t get why people compare how athletes recover from injuries. Everybody has a different body that reacts differently when it is damaged.

it all depends on which part of the meniscus the tear occurs

He should have had it removed because it seems player’s that have it repaired just end up re-injuring the meniscus and then end up getting it removed, i.e. Chase Budinger, Eric Bledsoe and Gilbert Arenas.

Players that had the meniscus partially removed when they initially tore the meniscus, players such as Chris Paul and Blake Griffin have had no issues with the knee since the surgery.

With that being said, Eric Bledsoe who has the same explosive playing style as Rose, if he re-tore his meniscus than there’s a good chance the same could happen to Rose. Bledsoe won’t have to deal with the meniscus anymore because it’s now gone, if Rose had done the same thing he wouldn’t have to worry about it either, but Rose who was already having trouble mentally dealing with the ACL, he doesn’t need to have another headache about his meniscus.

The point is from what I’ve seen player’s who had the meniscus removed, they recovered and came back and didn’t have to lose time and player’s who had it repaired just ended up re-injuring the meniscus.

You can’t look at it in anything other than individual terms. For every meniscus that retears, there is one that doesn’t that you don’t hear about. It’s a 50-50 split (according to doctors) that a player will reinjure his knee. .
Regarding Bledsoe, but not included in this story, the Suns staff has placed a “10 year expiration date” on Bledsoe’s right knee. There is a 50% chance he’ll need work before then, but about 10 years from now it is fully expected that Bledsoe will need microfracture surgery. This is word from a source within the Suns, said to the above John Gambidoro. This is the same guy who breaks literally all suns related news, and he hasn’t been wrong about a suns source in years. If ever.

I’m just saying if Rose ends up re-tearing the meniscus, he’s going to regret not having it removed in the first place.

If you still have the link about him saying Bledsoe will last another 10 yrs before needing microfracture surgery, can you post it?
