Kevin Durant Finds His Torrid Scoring Run Unremarkable

OKC Thunder superstar Kevin Durant has been putting up silly numbers of late – an average of 36.9 points in the last 12 games, 30+ points in nine consecutive games, and so forth. Durant claims that he’s not overly impressed with his MVP-like play, and credits other historical performances as being worthy of more praise. Per the Oklahoman:

“Yeah, after every game I’ve been getting 30 to 40 texts,” Durant admitted.

But of course, Durant, always the politician, says he is not overly impressed with his recent stretch, instead ushering the spotlight to some other legends.

“I’ve seen Kobe Bryant score 40 points in nine straight games,” Durant said. “Michael Jordan have 11 triple-doubles in 12 games. LeBron James have a month when he’s averaging 35 points. So those guys, that’s something to write home about.”

What about your streak? Is it something to write home about?

“No, not at all,” he deadpanned.

  • VanCityBBall

So Durant is also averaging 30-40 texts per game?

  • bike

LOL. Along with 30-40 bong hits after the game.

  • Barkley

What’s with his use of tense? “have”??

  • LakeShow

    Weirdly humble.

  • TBRK

    one text per point

  • TBRK

his quote wasn’t transcribed properly, those should be commas instead of periods.

  • JJ Jones

Just playing up for the cameras being politically correct. Though I don’t think its being humble as much as it is being unsatisfied band setting the bar higher and higher

  • pposse

looks like that scoring streak will be haulted atleast for a game. KD out tonight with a shoulder injury

  • TBRK

naw he’s simply a humble dude, just raised that way. It’s how his mother brought him up

  • LakeShow

Oh cool! Is that a YouTube video???!

  • LakeShow

    I agree.

  • LakeShow

    Where did you hear that?

  • pposse

saw it on the sports ticker at the bottom of espn, it was breaking news. he did hurt his shoulder when he tried to dunk on TD the other night, TD got called for the foul but it was close. Durant got bodied tho.

  • JJ Jones

U should see what he says during games when he gets it going lol.

  • JJ Jones

Hopefully this doesnt hamper his play.

  • LakeShow

    You have any clips?

  • JJ Jones

Look up on YouTube kd cussed out dwight howard

  • 2chainz

    its a pretty cool video

  • brothasdontsurf

And he’s a class act gentleman, so you know he always picks up Girl Scout Cookies to show his support ;)

We always knew how capable he was of this, we’re just finally getting to see our imaginations of his effortless scoring come to life. I could sort of agree with him. He’s playing great for a lone star against good teams but I still think his hand can get hotter than this.
Kobe’s bursts were “SMH” worthy to me. These I just nod my head like “I knew it”.

  • Evan Boland

Lebron having a month of 35 ppg? MJ and Kobe averages that for entire seasons.. Now THATS something to not write home about.

  • BE.water

Kevin Durant definitely has that juice. He can talk that good game on the floor, but I think thats because he really knows how good he is. He just knows that off the court he’s just a regular mu’f*cka like me and you.

  • Jagga

Anyone that believes that Durant is “insanely humble” based off this quote is idiotic and foolish, these guys have PR teams up there ass telling them how they need to talk and breathe in every situation, over time the intelligent players learn…..KD is a humble dude one of the most humble ever but to tell a reporter that his current streak should not be written about and just downplaying his accomplishments? I am not buying it, kid knows hes a killer and he knows damn well that they should be and will be talking about every performance or else he wouldn’t be gunnin for em.

  • Drig

Not sure whether to be happy or unsettled by his lack of selfishness……….

I mean, come on! Celebrate FFS! Stop being these politically correct players and just shout out ‘I’m the man this season’ or something…… :

Maybe it just isn’t who Durant is. Wish he had just a bit of it though. Gotta wait till Westbrook / Rondo return for that…..

  • The Seed

KD, needs fire. The most fire or angst I have seen KD with was when he was crying on his mom’s shoulder after the NBA Finals. KD show your passion in games. KD probably should get MVP award, mainly because Westbrook has been hurt, Nash got a MVP like this. I just need KD to get some heart and fire then he will win a ring. Without Westbrook Thunder are going nowhere. Period!!!

  • ATL dynamite

when you factor in his casual and ‘standard’ 8 rebs 7 assists to that 35 avg a month tho….

  • Dagger

Then there’s the whole 60% shooting from the field during a 27-game winning streak thing.

  • Born

Why bother responding to illogical hate? Blowland knows nothing about basketball.

  • JJ Jones

How about every time he destroys houston?

  • Evan Boland

Yeah exactly lol. He’s done a lot of crazy things, 35 ppg for a month not being one..

  • 2chainz
  • Phil

Then there’s the fact that 60%-70% of those attempts came on fast breaks or semi-transition dunks. How impressive!

  • Dagger

    Can you back that up?

If your argument is that many of his shot attempts came from near the net: yes, that’s true. And yes, it is impressive.

  • grgeblck

That’s his ultimate goal, to win a championship. The way he put it is,
he doesn’t give a sh*t on any record other than championships.
