LaMarcus Aldridge Says He Should Have Been an All-Star Starter

Last night, the NBA announced the starters for the 2014 All-Star Game, and LaMarcus Aldridge wasn’t one of them. After putting up a career-high 44 points and leading his team to a victory the same night as the announcement, the Portland big man had this to day via SB Nation:

“I’ve kind of gotten used to those things happening,” Aldridge told Blazersedge afterwards, when asked about missing out on a starting spot. “Everybody around me was more upset than me. I came in tonight and [Nicolas Batum] was pretty fired up about it. My mom was pretty heated about it. Me, I was like, ‘OK, this is happening again.’”

But he didn’t leave it there.

“I think I definitely should have been a starter,” Aldridge told Blazersedge. “But it’s over with now, basically.”

    Tragedy

Yeah, this was a sad moment. MVP for me so far, he’ll be in though.

    lamarcus aldridge is not lying

  • Micah Thomas

Is it better to have won the popularity contest, or to be recognized by the pros? There’s just no way Aldridge gets left off the team once the coaches fill out the roster spots.

You can’t make a argument for LA over Durant.

  • Saleem Rainman

What the HELL is everyone so worked up over not getting into the starting 5 for ? If you don’t make the reserves, THEN you can complain…you’re gonna make the squad one way or another. Good grief.

  • BlazeShow

Yes you can. And the season isn’t even close to being over. So time will tell, not your opinion.

lol no you can’t. not logically.

  • Saleem Rainman

    nooot reaallllyyy…

It comes down to Blake or Lamarcus. Us on here as well as the rest of the NBA know that Lamarcus is putting in more work than Blake, but it is what it is. Lamarcus should be more worried about the securing a good playoff berth than the All Star Game anyways.

    My opinion means nothing.

What is important are the facts.

    Trailblazers: 32-11

    Thunder: 33-10

    Durant: 31 points on 20FGA 50%-41%-88%
    LMA: 25 points on 21 FGA 47%-12%-81%

LaMarcus Aldridge has had a healthy intact crew all season.

Durant is missing his sidekick. The 2nd best PG in the game.

    WinShares/48:

    KD- .323
    LMA- .179

    Offensive Rating:

    KD- 124
    LMA- 112

    Defensive Rating:

    KD- 100
    LMA- 104

    Defensive WS:

    KD- 2.8
    LMA- 1.9

    Offensive WS:

    KD- 8.2
    LMA- 4.0

I mean… the list goes on. I’m just getting tired of compiling data.

Not a logical one but sports is more about the feelings and emotions rather than logic. It’s just my vote for MVP goes to LA.. with the tumultuous offseason to come in and just shut up (for the most part) and do work. KD is definitely the logical choice at this point in time

  • LakeShow

    I totally get that man.

I would have had Durant as MVP last season in that regard.

  • Blarmac

    Well, I voted for him.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

Yeah KD is clearly the MVP leader.

  • Adam Contreras

LMAO why is he bitching? Just because your Blazers are playing good & you scored 44 points (first time ever), it doesn’t translate that you should be a starter. Does Lamarcus understand that the All Stars game goes by fan votes? I NEVER think that Lambarcus is a star! There is always next year. For now, he needs to improve more.

  • LakeShow

That is to take nothing away from LMA.

He has been the best 4 in the L. By quite a margin imo.

He is probably 2nd or 3rd, but KD is far and away MVP right now. Obviously.

  • http://soundcloud.com/tray-8 T-Ray

Oh no question. In no way is it a slight to LA but KD has been out of this world so far and doing it without his sidekick and top 10 player as well as claiming the top spot in the West.

  • JJ Jones

Over Blake griffin yes over kevin love no

  • JJ Jones

Aldridge isn’t even better than chris bosh he has no argument over durant.

  • JJ Jones

This its hilarious how he’s an mvp candidate when he got beat by a chris bosh-led miami heat.

  • King Chalmers

you’re giving the most irrelevant argument for this case

  • DJ_BobbyPeru

All it is is a popularity contest. If you really want to be a starter, star in some nationally televised commercials, force a trade to a bigger market, and do shoe promos in China. I’d be personally be more gratified to be picked by the coaches as a reserve. They pick you by how you’re playing, not by your Q rating.

  • FF

Congrats. By saying that, you just proved that you are an ignorant fool

  • John

Haha what are you a casual fan? Your seriously saying that LaMarcus isn’t a top player? Your saying that a player who is resurgent on a resurgent team isn’t a player who has done anything to propel that idea? What’s your idea of a starter btw? If your a fan, you know players who are due, when you have legends who mention voting for other new found players, you try, you do it.

  • JJ Jones

No he’s an elite player just not top 5 like some people have been implying. Hes a bit improved this year but this guy has been doing his thing for years. Now that his team is suddenly winning he’s a top 5 player better than kevin love? Imo it doesnt work that way. Replace kevin love with l amarcus are they all of sudden a top team in the west? No

  • JD

were u on drugs when u posted that?

  • JD

but to compare the two alone, I believe LMA is definitely more deserving that Kevin Love at this point. If you go by the stats – both are very similar, but large gaps between win/loss column.

  • JD

He was saying that whoever can dunk more should be a starter/ or a star.

  • JJ Jones

Well your entitled to your opinion I just think kevin love is a flat out better player. Over blake griffin though definitely no doubt.

  • Mike From Spain

Kevin Love is also putting up better numbers than LA.

  • Mike From Spain

My point of contention is that Kevin Love is doing better than LA. More efficient offensively, to the extent that he more than makes up for the defensive shortcomings.

  • Mike From Spain

Kevin Love is putting up a crazy season too. Win/loss is all due to how the Wolves bench suck. The Wolves starters routinely outscore the opposing starters, but the bench falls behind by 20 or 30 points to the opposing bench. Stop taking win/lose by itself as a tangible argument, W/L at the team level needs to be analyzed to have any explanatory value

  • LakeShow

It’s really tough to say right now.

Most people are going to side with LMA mostly due to the wins, but more than a solid argument can be made for Love.

I still think Love is the overall better talent, but LMA is proving it better this year.

  • LakeShow

The hardest thing for me to argue for Love, is the 1-10 record in games decided by 5 points or less.(I think that is what I heard anyway)

Love needs to come up with some clutch wins in those scenario’s to show he is the best 4 in the L.
