The Brooklyn Nets Call Joe Johnson ‘Joe Jesus’

Given his penchant for bailing his team out with game-winning shots, the Brooklyn Nets have begun to call Joe Johnson “Joe Jesus”. No word yet if this will appear as a nickname during the January 10 game against the Miami Heat. Per the Star-Ledger:

Sure, on occasion, he has been the Nets’ savior with two game-winning buzzer-beaters this season, but his numbers recently had been lousy: He had been averaging only seven points over the previous five games and had been held in single digits in five straight games for the first time in 11 years.

But Monday night, he scored 23 as the Nets beat the Atlanta Hawks, 91-86, at the Barclay Center for their third consecutive victory. And that performance has led to a new nickname:

Joe Jesus.

“He might not be there when you call on him,” teammate Kevin Garnett said. “But he’s there when you need him.”

Offensive stuff. People have no respect for God any more.

  • VanCityBBall

Right now his nickname on the jersey would be “JJ”… What on earth hapend to Iso Joe or Joe Cool? I would say to use this one but even Ray Allen wasn’t allowed to wear Jesus Shuttleworth…

  • The Mauve Avenger

Earl Monroe should take exception to this.

They can say Jesus and be referring to one aspect of him (in this case the miracles), while you may refer to him somewhere else as your personal savior. People need to stop being so butthurt by these things, seriously. Its your religion ok i can respect that, but dont put bans on things that people can say.

so you’re offended because he’s offended ? lol

Jesus peace be upon him isn’t God. God has no SON. Holy Qur’an 43:61. Jesus Peace Be Upon Him will return as the 2nd major sign of 10 toward the day of judgement.

Actually just watch 1st couple minutes of my video

do you want polls? Or should I elaborate. There is a huge discrepancy of understanding between Bibilical Scholars and the layman christian in regards to what the Bible is. Most lay man just think the bible is a book either written by the Creator or wrriten by men inspired by the Creator. However, most christians don’t realize that there are different canons different bibles. The bible isn’t one big book its a collection of books and some bibles are open where as others are closed. 2nd. most christians are unaware that original greek manuscripts are in the thousdands and contains 100,000s of variations… Textual critics have to sort through these manuscripts to “guess” which is accurate word. That is why when you read a bible it has the variations underneath. 3rd. Most christians don’t even know the reality of the authorship of the canonical gospels let alone that noncanonical gosepls exists detailing Jesus Peace Be Upon Him’s life. You can ask christians most don’t even know Jesus Peace Be Upon Him spoke aramaic. There is huge difference between biblical and christians cultural reality.

Here you don’t have to believe anything I said. Dr. Bart Ehrman who worked with the famous Bruce Betzger is probably the most well recognized New Testament scholar in America: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cU_26Pn3Bwg

compare Matthew 24:36-51. Read surah 75 Qiyamah. and read Hadith of Gabriel Peace Be Upon Him. We are living in multiple minor signs toward the Day of Judgement.

Jesus Peace Be Upon Him will disown all those who associated divinity with a creature like himself on the Day of Judgement. Study your religion

even the arguments for resurrection are nonsense from the Synoptic Gospels.. the gospel of John is way left field and a completely different genre.

I only trust the GOSPEL OF JESUS peace be upon him the INJEEL.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

    Read this book bro. http://www.amazon.com/The-Text-New-Testament-Transmission/dp/019516122X

Christianity is pure blind belief. No textual evidencei s used to support existence of its supernatural origin. Forget creationist agurments which can be used for any religion… Focus on textual reproducible evidence.

Plz don’t take offense to anything I say. I intend on spreading truthful knowledge. Its sad that over 100 million views are given to drake music video yet less than 200,000 are given to studying BOOKS CLAIMING TO BE FROM NONHUMAN SOURCES like the Vedas, Torah, New testament, Holy Qur’an.

Yet the world is search for Alien Life and trying to download our neuronal ciricuitury into robots at elite universities like MIT.. They don’t know that every SOUL will taste death (3:185)… And music is not the therapy for the soul it therapy for the Visceral self.

did you get my last message…. did you check out command and conquer. Also you might want to switch your internet service if you have comcast.

  • asdf

lol im not offended I just get annoyed by these types of comments. I just see them as very domineering and trying to push their faith on people.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

that’s the problem with postmodernity. ppl make religion some sort of cult like organization.

NO religious texts are meant to provide an absolute nature to the human reality… either each text is wrong hence atheism/agnosticism or 1 is right

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

    u love he got game

  • http://triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

so are you are scientologist or Mormon then?

  • Chester

Thats just like people getting really sensitive when people use the word f*ggot. 90% of the time people are using that word whilst talking to friends, but society takes offense to the word because its so called derogatory toward gays and lesbians. But the word in itself can have so many meanings and ‘refers to one aspect’ when used in different ways. So let me ask you. Do you have a problem with people using the words like f*ggot or p*ssy? Because if you do then you’re a hypocrite because honestly, we all have things we all have words or comments which lead us to feel ‘butthurt’ about, they just happen to be different to yours.

  • pposse

they are disobeying one of the commandments..probably why Guest is offended..

  • Fat Lever

    Yup….

No, I don’t believe in God. I was just throwing an alley oop to AddingVelocityDontTellMe

  • Guest

I wrote it because it makes me laugh to watch all the internet atheists go crazy any time someone says a comment like that.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

No. I am a muslim – I submit to the final revelation of the Creator in the Holy Qur’an.

  • http://triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

Thanks for sharing your believes with me in a zealous, yet not over bearing manner.
    : )

  • http://triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

But I understand that Abraham believed in a resurrection to life restored on Earth.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

Yes the resurrection of the human species and jinn species (the current free willed species) will occur for the day of judgement. Whether one believes in it or not will not impact whether the event will occur or not.

Following the commands of the Creator will only benefit you

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

lol if someone throws me an alley oop in real life i try to not dunk it just lay it in in an acrobatic fashion or gently put it in. Its too risky. Stick to 1 handed dunks on the break and two handed or one handed off a post move

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

yeah the commandment of graven images… o wait all churches do that…. if christians really follow jesus peace be upon him they should all be followers of judaism

  • http://triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

Technically that’s not correct – Jesus’ way of life was an example to be followed to replace the Mosaic Law code, the Law was a ‘Shadow of things to come’. Under the Mosaic Law, Jewish faithful would constantly be reminded of their imperfect state, the arrangement of sacrifices could not ever undo or wipe out their sin, but it did allow them to repent and demonstrate their understanding for this posityon they were in. Jesus’ course of life, and his death ultimately was the perfect sacrifices, putting trust and faith in that ransom sacrifice the sin atoning sacrifice ultimately replaced the need for any further sacrifices the Jews were asked to perform (fat of the bulls etc / whole burnt offerings etc). Jesus is described as fulifilling the law code, once the Natural nation of Isreal was no longer God’s chosen peopple (he now has a SPIRITUAL nation) made up of all ‘tribes and tongues’. Any/all who accept Jesus as their king and live accordingly….

  • http://triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

(a side point – I agree with you, Graven images is just ONE example of where today’s CHRISTENDOM churches are not following the bibles direction… hellfire, the trinity, an immortal soul, religion backing war efforts/politics) What the bible teaches and what the churches teach….couldn’t be any further apart.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

this is paulian theology…. where did Jesus Peace Be Upon Him clearly state this.

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

without being too invasive. what exactly is you religious background

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

“Any/all who accept Jesus as their king and live accordingly” you’ll never be able to figure out how Jesus Peace Be Upon Him lived via the Gospels canonical and noncanonical

  • http://triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

    John 6:39,40

  • AddingVelocityDontTellMe

Dacre you realize that even biblical scholars don’t agree that the gospel of John is in the same category as the synoptic gospels. When was the new testament compiled – 150 years afterward the ascension of Jesus Peace Be Upon Him to heaven. Some biblical scholars date it to before the synoptic gospels. So quoting the gospel of John doesn’t help or assist in showing the VERACITY of that statement. Study the origin and compilation of the Bible. Initutively I agree that the Matthew 26:34-51 is original from Jesus Peace Be Upon Him’s mouth, but most of the saying of Jesus Peace Be Upon Him cannot be verified.

Here’s a more fundamental question, why do you believe in a book that contains blantant falsehood as book of absolute Truth. The adultress story is a complete Forgery. The Johanine Comma another forgery. Matthe 16:9-16:20. Your basing your view of the absolute nature of reality of the human existence on the New Testament canon which varies in some denominations.

The FINAL revelation the Holy Qur’an after the Injeel (Gospel of Jesus Peace Be Upon HIm) was given to the Prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him for Mankind not exclusive for the Children of Israel. Read about Pharaoh Ramses 2nd Body.

Actually read Christian orientalist arguments like the white grape by luxenburg and you’ll see how irrational the claims against the Holy Qur’an are. Big Picture Surah 75 and 77. Why would God create a Warner (Prophet Muhammad Peace Be Upon Him) about the Day of Judgement.

Actually here’s a great scholar who talks about the Holy Qur’an compilation if you have time he also contrasts the Bible as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2k_XsdY68g

I don’t agree with you. Those words are directly hurtful and hateful to people, while saying Jesus is not directed at anybody. I am not saying that it is ok to insult someones god, i am just saying that they shouldn’t feel protective over a word. In this case he isnt offended because it was against him, he is offended because he thinks the word “Jesus” is protected.
