John Wall Wants Kevin Durant on the Wizards

All-Star point guard John Wall may be the man in DC, but he knows that he needs a co-star. Wall admits that he’s been coyly recruiting Kevin Durant (who becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2016). Per the WaPo and Oklahoman:

Wall and Durant both share the same trainer, Rob McClanaghan, and worked out together a few times last summer in Los Angeles. Wall didn’t deny that has already started planting seeds about Durant playing in Washington.

“I throw a little slick shots here and there,” Wall said on Friday with a laugh. “Try something.”

Durant was first asked about the possibility by filmmaker and actor Spike Lee during an appearance on his Sirius XM radio show on Thursday night. Durant told Lee it’s not something that interested him.

“I love playing there (in Oklahoma City),” Durant said. “The city fits me. I’m one of those guys that just likes to chill. That’s exactly how the town is. The people are supportive. The fans are there all the time at the games. Every game feels like it’s a sellout. They just support us so much.”

“I had to buy 100 tickets tonight. I spent a lot of money on tickets tonight. Imagine if I played here,” Durant said when asked if he’s given it any thought (prior to Oklahoma City’s game at Washington on Saturday.) “I don’t even want to think about that. But I haven’t given it any thought. Growing up here and, like I said, taking the train down to Gallery Place-Chinatown to come watch these games as a kid, I never really thought about coming home to play. I love Oklahoma City. I love coming here and visiting. Hopefully, we can change (our losing trend at Washington) and get a win tonight. That’s all I’m thinking about.”

Way to plant those seeds John, but I will never for the life of me understand why this organization cant attract superstar free agents. It’s not like we are a small market team or anything like that.

  • Saleem Rainman

Wall needs a guy to finish out the 4th quarters.

  • Anthony

Go back to the name Bullets. (Highly unlikely with the way gun control is a hot issue in the media) The Bullets though had some super stars!

  • JJ Jones

I cant really see this happening unless westbrook turns out to be damaged goods in the next few years. This is probably just a non story anyway hes in a good situation right now (aside from having a cheap owner)

  • Dfrance

I really think a player like Durant is what this current Wiz team is missing. The backcourt and PF and C positions are pretty solid, they just need a 3 that can score and create his own shot. Ariza would round out the bench perfectly.

  • ATL dynamite

Martell Webster though? not exactly creating his own shot but he’s been really good with the wiz this season

  • Stepfan Raiford

Besides Bradley Beal who on minutes restrictions.

  • ATL dynamite

I have faith in Brad Beal

  • TriggaMan

Great spot up shooter, and defends his postion well, opens johns game up

  • Lauren Bryan

I cant really see this happening unless westbrook turns out to be damaged goods in the next few years.

  • ATL dynamite

True. A great locker-room presence nonetheless, which is quite weird to me considering how he behaved in Blazers’ uniform when he’s younger. He’s definitely matured.
Btw, the better Webster and Ariza play, the deeper Otto Porter’s gonna be buried in the bench. I still remember how he’s compared his offensive versatility to KD… hope he pans out and John Wall gets the KD type teammate he wants

  • Dagger

A player like Durant is what every team not in Miami is missing.

  • Dfrance

Nah, Miami is missing him too. Lol. I mean a scoring 3. Ariza is decent but not consistent enough,

  • Dfrance

He has been really good and I like Webster, but I don’t think he’s a starter. He’s perfect coming off the bench to give them some scoring when Beal and Wall aren’t in.

well they have never really had an attractive roster. They have also never had a coach with job security. So building a foundation was never even in the works.

  • spit hot fiyah

i think every pg in the league would like durant on his team

  • Stepfan Raiford

    smh..touche nbk touche

  • Saleem Rainman

Beals been up and down in clutch situations, but still a better option than Wall late.

As i’ve said before, thats the wizards best case scenarion, Wall doin his thing for 3- 3 and a half quarters, and then having Beal develop that killer instinct to put games away. But Kevin Durant obviously would be a much better option lol

  • IggI

If I could talk to Wall, this is what I would tell: “Mr. You and every PG want KD in their team.

  • IggI

What would it take for me to learn how to shoot like KD?

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

it’s a fair question. when they had Chris Webber / Juwan Howard / (and one of my favorite players ever) Rod Strickland they had a nice core. But they just didn’t have the full package, and free agency in those days was less a major thing. So it sort of kept them from being able to keep building

    :) ))))))))))))))

  • Stepfan Raiford

Your speaking the truth on my Wizards and it hurts my soul. smh

  • Wings23

I want Jessica Alba on my team…and by team I mean my dyuck

  • Wings23

I live in DC and residents just don’t care enough about the Wizards. Redskins, Nationals, and Capitals all come before the Wiz.

  • Caboose

They’ve had a lot of “fun” cores to build on, but little substance. Gil, Caron, Jamison comes to mind…

  • jsjolie

In my opnion wall should go to okc move westbrook to sg durant at sf ibaka at pf and Perkins at c.

  • Stepfan Raiford

DC will always be a football town first, but if and that’s a big if we were able to get KD man the support for the team would be incredible.

  • Stepfan Raiford

    Don’t forget Larry Hughes. lol

  • 23

    every player*

  • ATL dynamite

in my opinion stop fantasizing about bringing in an all star while conceding absolutely nothing. fan mindsets like yours really bother me.

  • ATL dynamite

I think Beal has that killer instinct, but he’s still too young to perform consistently come clutch moments. Even when he’s not performing well they can throw the ball to Nene. Beal could take his time to develop everything your wiz needs moving forward.

but of course, who would say no to a KD lol I would want 2 KDs on my team if that’s possible

  • spit hot fiyah

    and every coach, gm, owner….

  • spit hot fiyah

maybe not small forwards, since that means they get benched

  • Wings23

This is definitely true. What I don’t understand is why the Verizon center is half empty with a star in Wall and a decent seeded playoff team. I used to live in Chicago and after the Jordan years the United Center (which is in a way worse part of town that the VC) was selling out or nearly selling out with an awful team.

  • Stepfan Raiford

Wings23 it’s like you said before, they’re fair weather fans. When the team was winning during the Arenas Era fans came out the wood works. And since we drafted John Wall the attendance has been mediocre at best, unless the Heat, or even if the Lakers are in town. It’s sad but true. Wiz need a Superstar to put some butts in seats.

  • Wings23

Yeah it sucks, at least I get to go to the games for cheap lol
