Matt Barnes Upset Joakim Noah Only Fined $15K for Abusing Refs

LA Clippers forward Matt Barnes took to Twitter to vent about the NBA’s bizarre rules (and punishments) when it comes on-court incidents. Barnes was fined $10K more than Joakim Noah after flagrantly fouling Kevin Love:

This is why I love Matt Barnes

And he’ll probably get fined for those tweets. Salt in the wound.

The league is biased towards certain players. The public has a bad perception of Matt Barnes so he was fined more while joakim noah has a better image in the “medias” eyes. Its bs

If he has an issue with how both situations were handled why not address the league appropriately? Why go on social media when you can go straight to source of your issue? I’ll never understand why people tweet frustrations first when you can easily go to the source of the problem.

It looks like Matt Barnes has another 10k he doesn’t need… Getting finedfor social media activity is probably the stupidest thing a player can do

I’m guessing that based on his reputation, the league will not give him a satisfactory reason on the fine disparity. It’s like a brown person going to the police station to report police abuse/misconduct/unlawfu rectal exam and expecting a satisfactory answer. Not saying this is the best way to handle it but I can see why he would mistrust the league office.

  • guessst

i don’t really get that brown person, rectal exam reference

Maybe he should consider the possibility that Joakim doesn’t get fined very often. Repeat offenders typically get harsher punishments for their inability to learn from their mistakes. This absolutely has nothing to do with how a player is perceived by refs, fans, the media, other players, etc. It may look like it at face value, but maybe Matt should be asking himself how he can avoid getting fines to begin with.

I get your point as far as mistrust I just don’t think this is helping his cause.

  • ryguy

Maybe its because you spelt “fined” wrong twice….Thats worth a solid 10k if you ask me.
Guys like him should just be booted for good. Trash.

Matt Barnes Upset Joakim Noah Only Finned* $15K for Abusing Refs

Maybe it’s cause you got finned.

I agree that it does not help him. Is there a different avenue to address it and still get a fair response. The league will not review the two situations and admit that they overfined Barnes in light of Noah’s fine. They will probably fine him for these comments. Which will only add to his (and many others) mistrust of the league office. Unless they address it privately and forbid him from discussing it in public. They’ve done it before with Phil many years ago. Got his fine money back for “good behaviour”.

Matt Barnes was fined 25k for not leaving the court in a reasonable amount of time, and for using a racial slur on twitter.
    .
He wasn’t even fined for the flagrant 2.

lol it’s not finned, unless we are talking about some sort of dolphin attack.

  • pposse

this is the epitome of why Matt Barnes will always get fined more.

  • pposse

or maybe Noah shown contrition for his actions right afterwards during post game while Barnes is constantly trying to appeal and whine about his fines, compare them to others, repeat offender etc. etc.

  • bike

Noah has a ponytail and no tattoos. Believe it or not, that counts for something.

My thoughts exactly. I believe if they were to address it they should do it behind closed doors.

  • jrandz
