Russell Westbrook Reportedly Being Held Out For Precautionary Reasons

Russell Westbrook’s knee is fully healthy but is being held out until after the All-Star break for “precaution,” according to Yahoo. Westbrook has sat out the Thunder’s last 20 games after undergoing right knee surgery on December 27, and reportedly has a target return date of February 20 against the Miami Heat:

There’s a post-All-Star break target date set for Westbrook, sources told Yahoo Sports – as soon as Feb. 20, hosting the Miami Heat. [...]

That knee is strong again, Westbrook’s meniscus problems behind him, and it is merely precaution that’s keeps him out until after the All-Star break this month, sources said.

Which stinks, because I finally get to see the Thunder play tonight against the Wizards.

good move imo. 3 knee surgeries (although pretty minor) in about 8 months is scary. the team is on a roll without him so no need to rush it. coming back after the all star break should give him enough time to get fully in the shape he needs to be come playoff time

They’re destroying contending teams without him right now. I would wait to play him until abiut march so he’ll have enough time to get into rhythm and be ready for a championship push. I think him seeing that okc has more weapons offensively now will prompt him to focus on being more of a triple threat player and lockdown defender

OKC is a better team without Russell Westbrick.

Just keep him out until 2 weeks before the playoffs. That is the time they’ll need him.

That’s a mistake. Dude needs time to get back in the rhythm of the team, something that CANNOT be happening in the Playoffs.

I’m talking to you, Jameer Nelson.
