Nets Playoff Ticket Prices Up 87 Percent Despite Game 2 Loss

After coming from behind and winning Game 1 against the Toronto Raptors, the Brooklyn Nets couldn’t find the same success in Game 2. After having the first two games in Toronto, the Nets’ playoff schedule sets Games 3 and 4 in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Despite coming home with series tied 1-1 instead of a 2-0 advantage, the price for Nets playoff tickets at Barclays Center have continued to rise.

On the secondary market, the average series price of Brooklyn Nets vs Toronto Raptors tickets at the Barclays Center has jumped to $259.14, up 37.3 percent from the $188.73 average at the start of the series. The average is also up 6 percent since before the tipoff for Game 2. The playoff premium for Round 1 home games is now 85.15 percent over the $139.99 regular-season average price in Brooklyn. Pierce and Kevin Garnett may be aging stars, but they are still relevant enough to keep the Nets alive and fans in their seats, while also raising ticket prices in the process. Some tickets are still available for games in Brooklyn on the primary market as well.

Price for each individual game has risen on the secondary market since the end of the Game 2 loss. The average price for Game 3 Friday night is up 10 percent to $325.46 and the average price for Game 4 on Sunday is up 4.5 percent to $298.84, all in the past 24 hours. The Nets also have the opportunity to host Game 6 at home if the series goes that far. Secondary market prices haven’t moved as much for that game, just above 3 percent, but that increase will become more dramatic if the game becomes necessary.

The middle-seeded Eastern Conference teams had a back and forth battle in Game 2, leading to what should be an exciting two games coming in Brooklyn. Adding to the intrigue of this series are statements by Raptors GM Masai Ujiri and Toronto newspapers claiming the Nets were an old and withered team over the weekend. Toronto was able to back up that smack talk with a win immediately after, but those statements may be extra fuel for Nets fans wanting to come out and support the team in the upcoming home games.

With the series tied 1-1, Brooklyn will now take over home court advantage with ability to host three home games opposed to Toronto’s two. Even as the series comes back to Brooklyn, Basketball-Reference still gives the Raptors a 76.9 percent chance of winning this first-round series. With the continued rise in prices after a loss, Nets fans seem much more optimistic. For up to the minute prices and premiums for each series in the NBA Playoffs visit the TiqIQ Blog.
