Motiejunas To Pull Out Of 2010 Draft

With Kevin Seraphin likely also withdrawing, there may not be a 2010 international player in the first round. Motiejunas was looking to get a guarantee from a top-12 team, but hasn’t received one. From DraftExpress: “Herb Rudoy informs us Donatas Motiejunas ‘has decided to withdraw his name from this Draft. Feels that another year playing for Benetton will help prepare him better for his entry into the NBA in 2011. He plans to continue to train hard all summer and during next season to get stronger and develop his game to a higher level. He is excited about the NBA, but at age 19 believes that another year of playing in Europe is the best way to go.’”

Probably for the best if he’s only 19. Anybody know what type of player the dude is, or have any comparisons?

From the highlights I’ve seen, dude looks like he could be a great pro. He’s got that typical euro-game, you know, big man that can step out and shoot, but he’s also got a bit of a mean streak, at least a lot more than your typical euro. He’s got great footwork for his age, can handle the ball well, and isn’t afraid to bang in the paint every now and then. Dude can start and finish a fast break. I’m surprised he pulled out, but then again he’d gone from a top-3 pick to bottom of the lottery on most mock drafts.

I agree, Enigmatic. Though, the highlights are just that: highlights.

Very true, Ryne. Not to mention they are highlights showcasing him against players that are at least a notch or two below NBA players. But at 19, this kid has some serious potential.

This helps a borderline First rounders… Another 2 slots opening up.

Does he not scream out Andrea Bargnani?
On another note, next year, he’s not going before Barnes, Kanter, Irving, Knight or Jones. That’s for sure.

@niQ – Sounds like you’ve got NBADraft.net bookmarked, LOL. I’ll give you Barnes and Kanter, but I could see him going ahead of the other guys.

now who will the raptors draft!?

@Enigmatic. I do refer to that site every now and then, along with others. But honestly, after the whole Bargnani experiment, I don’t see someone in his mold going so early. Especially with what the other names I listed offer. And in regards to Knight and Irving, I see both of them making as much noise as Rose and Tyreke in the college game.

@niQ: I see some Bargnani in him as well.

@niQ – Fair enough, but you know, although Irving definitely has the talent to be a one and done player, I’m not convinced he’s going to go pro after his freshman season. Besides Cory Maggette and Loul Deng, I can’t think of anyone else that played at Duke and just stayed for a year. Whatever Coach Krysewssykyyewky does to get his players to stick around, it’s working.

He’ll have more of an Ersan Ilyasova-ish game than Bargnani. And I mean that in a good way, I think.

I’”l tell u what k’s doing. He’s not looking for the John Wall’s or reke cats. He taking a very good player with a high ball iq and having them understand and play a roll in a system that unfortunately works. He’s filling his roster with nba role players. Outside of a few stand outs, grant hill, carlos boozer and deng. I can’t think of anymore heads off the top besides mike gminski and I’m not sure if k was there when he was, every other duke player is ridin pine on the next level. So they know to stay in school and get that degree.
