Layup Lines: Get at Me

Protected by Viper, STAND BACK.

Not to be redundant with the X-Man, but this album deserves the shine. Following up on yesterday’s track, here’s another from DMX’s It’s Dark & Hell is Hot. Definitely in my Top 5 Albums all time and definitely a Layup Line Banger. The production on this whole album was off the chain.

    Oh yes. Hell yes, actually.

This was the first DMX song I ever heard (except for him being featured on other’s songs) and I thought “DAMN. This dude goes HARD”.
I remember buying the single before the album dropped, but I had bought the edited version, and literally like every fourth word was bleeped out. LOL

@HAMMER – now you know I’m down for the brown too, but um, all them dudes are kinda wack (well, Frost was ok I guess). Just my opinion.
I personally lean more towards Tha Mexikanz, PsychoRealm, and Knightowl when it comes to Chicano rap. That harder, more hip-hop centric stuff.

I can honestly say Matico that ur the 1st mexican that I have encountered 2 say that bout the rappers I mentioned. Don’t get me wrong, I luv Knightowl and the other hard core chicano rappers like Lil One and Mr. Sancho. But LSOB? I luv how the mix the doo-wop w/the hip-hop. They smooth and also good party rappers w/their “Hey DJ” song. NBK also had he dopest luv song back n the day, “Lost in Love”.

Maybe its a West Coast bias thing tho. Cuz over here, young Lil Rob was @ 1 point n time arguably the best Chicano rapper. The man had hits galore over here back n the 90′s. He wasn’t mainstream of course. But any mexican who knew dope chicano rap was bumping Lil Rob. Not no more tho. That Lil Rob is gone, sadly.

Nah, see I always thought Lil’ Rob was wack.
Dude had a weak flow and sounded like a chick half the time. And Mr. Shadow embarrassed him when they teamed up for “Apocalypse” .
But I grew up in the Chicago area so my tastes are a lot different. I was never really down with the whole Cali “cholo” scene.
But Tha Mexikanz, that one album they had with bangers like “Problems” “Confessions” and “Provoke the Extreme”, that was dope as hell. And PsychoRealm’s first album was one of the most slept-on albums of all time, in rap music, period.
