Michael Jordan Fined $100K For Talking About the Lockout


Being an NBA owner during the lockout is kind of like being a member of Fight Club. The first rule: You do not talk about the lockout. Bobcats owner Michael Jordan broke this rule, so he’ll have to cough up a cool $100K. Via Chris Broussard:

    I think since he is the sponsor of the Tar Heels his promise is defined as a sponsorship incentive

    well it can be considered tampering, some of those UNC guys will be in the NBA so it is possible future employees. But the NBA wouldn’t punish Jordan, the NCAA would. And I don’t know what they would really even be able to do.

    @dfrance21, Mike sponsors UNC, he can do that. But the TarHells lost the next game, and that sucks for them. 100k is a hell of a lot of money for me, but for mike, that’s like…mmmm, grocery money shopping, but i think he will make that up with the sales of Maya Mooore’s new Air Jordan’s…so, almost pocket change for the G.O.A.T!

    Mike does not sponsor UNC. Jordan Brand, which is a subsidiary of Nike sponsors UNC. Jordan doesn’t own either company. The brand is based off his name, but he doesn’t own it. But I guess his close affiliation makes it ok. I’m not calling for a fine, I just think there should be some consistency with how they’re given out. Jay Z, minority owner gets fined just for being in the lockerroom. Jordan, MAJORITY owner promises the team whatever the want, on camera, no fine.

    He owns at least half of Jordan Brand. But yes Jordan Brand is a subsidiary of Nike, but that is really just a term used to say that Nike owns a large portion (50% plus 1 share, normally) of the Jordan Brand stocks, but Jordan is still the Boss.
