Report: Dennis Rodman ‘Broke’ and ‘Extremely Sick’

Since breaking into the NBA with the Pistons in 1986, Dennis Rodman was one of the wildest personalities the League had ever seen, and even with his playing days well behind him, The Worm’s series of unpredictable life events have kept him in the public eye. The latest turn is a sad one, as according to reports, Rodman—a 5-time NBA Champion with the Pistons and Bulls—is facing hard times both financially and physically. More, from the Los Angeles Times: “Former NBA star Dennis Rodman is ‘extremely sick,’ ‘broke’ and is in no position to pay hefty child and spousal support payments, according to court documents. Rodman is behind in his payments and faces a court hearing Tuesday in Orange. He faces up to 20 days in jail for failure to pay spousal and child support, according to an attorney for his ex-wife. As of March 1, Rodman, 51, owed $808,935 in back child support for the 9- and 10-year-old children that he had with his third wife, Michelle Rodman, said her attorney, Jack Kayajanian, in court documents. Rodman also owed $51,441 through March 1 in back spousal support, Kayajanian alleged in court documents. Michelle Rodman, identified in court papers as a Costa Mesa resident, is also requesting attorneys’ fees, according to the Daily Pilot. Dennis Rodman’s attorney, Linnea Willis, said in court documents that the former Laker is barely capable of paying for his living expenses, let alone the $5,000 he has for one child from another relationship, and the $4,500 monthly payment for spousal and child support to Michelle Rodman. The attorneys who have represented him to date have worked pro bono, Willis said. ‘Respondent Dennis Rodman is broke and cannot afford any additional fees,’ according to court documents filed on his behalf. He is ‘extremely sick’ and his marketability is diminishing with age and illness, according to court documents…He has a long history with Newport Beach, whose police were called to his Seashore Drive home in West Newport 80 times during the eight years he lived there. At the time his third wife filed for divorce, he listed his monthly expenses as more than $30,000, according to a 2004 article in the Los Angeles Times. Michelle Rodman listed her monthly expenses as $17,000.”

damn, hope things work out for the worm

But he can coach a women’s Basketball team for the sake of being a tool.

I hope he’s not really sick.

  • Treshiq

not to bring it up ( but i will)I remember when he said that he wouldn’t date black women because they would essentially jsut be using him for his money. It’s fair to say that having children with any woman period is bound to cost you some cash(17,000/mo i guess). I still don’t get how these women who divorce want to support thier “lifestyle” they had when married. Monthly expenses 17,000 seriously what are these kids wearing?!?!? My mom and dad took care of four kids on 2,500 a month when i was growing up. Yeah i know my dad didn’t have millions but neither does Rodman ( allegedly) so she may have to suck it up and cut some cost

  • Da-Meat-Hook

Let me guess, Dwayne Wade and Udonis Haslem should pay for Rodman’s spousal support too, right?!

  • Mooney10

I just find it competely unfair that a woman can demand this much, no one can demand this much, there should be a set minimum and go fromt here, how can you afford to pay that your whole life after basketball??

  • abaci

None of this is surprising, but it is sad

  • ab40

17.000 in monthly expenses. Those are some big kids if she spends all that money on clothing and food. Even if you ad school that’s a ridiculous amount of money to get in child’s tuition. And by no means realistic for someone to pay after their athletic careers are over.

This report is coming from Rodman’s own lawyer…while he fights child support payments. OF COURSE they’re gonna claim he’s sick and he’s broke – that’s what any smart lawyer would do. I wouldn’t exactly trust this info.

Wasn’t he partying and DJ in Japan or something not too long ago?

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Child Support is based on income at the time of a hearing/divorce. Not on how much the kids “need” in support.

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

@nbk, can they file a revised amount based on current conditions?

  • bike

Drunk, stoned, and broke ain’t no way to go through life son.

  • http://www.slamonline.com spit hot fiyah

having kids in the U.S. is very risky

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

they can but idk what the process is. I just know the court rulings are based on the time of divorce and don’t change without appeal. but i know nothing about the appeal process

  • Charles

Cocaine is hell of a drug.

  • http://leipzig-eagles.de/ Speedy

4500 $ for the child support plus 17000 $ for her own expenses

  • Heals

@Mooney10, I hear ya, these “I’ve become accustomed to a certain lifestyle” monthly payouts are insane…

  • shutup

alimony or spousal support is the cake the child support is just the frosting.

  • Mikestanley

He should move to Canada; free healthcare.

  • Heals

Kinda surprised by some of the comments given the negative response to similar news about Toine last week. Anyway I have no real remorse for him. The guy was beyond arrogant about his “ability” to party hard both during and after his career and not be any worse for the wear. Well you’re not young anymore and you’re not rich so grow up already Worm…

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

@Mikestanley. Free healthcare or not he’d still be required to pay child/spousal support.

  • http://minusthebars.blogspot.com don

    Money comes and goes.

  • LA Huey

DWade got full custody of his boys and so his mind and money is on supporting and spoiling just them. Smart man. Good father.

  • Butch

Maybe all these professional ath-a-letes should get vasectomies as teenagers so they fire blanks and don’t get stuck with outrageous child support payments.

  • Justin G.

If this report is true, it’s not surprising considering his lifestlye over the years. I’m not sure how it works in the States but I know for me in Canada, I pay child support based on my income each year. If my income is different, the support payments change to reflect that. I do think there should be some sort of cap for how much you have to pay. I remember reading a report somewhere back in the 90′s that Shawn Kemp was paying $32K/month for child support. That’s freakin’ ridiculous

  • LA Huey

Justin G, I love the Reign Man, but he supposedly has at least 10 kids with several different baby mamas. That in itself is ridiculous.

  • Bob Kay

Has anybody here even addressed his addiction! Granted, he is a bad dad, a horrific spouse and even a more miserable provider, but c’mon now. His disease has ruined a wonderfully “colorful career”! He is and addict alcoholic. Maybe, just maybe, if that was addressed, he could rectify 90% of his familys and personal woes! Does’nt anybody recognize whats killing him and any relationship he’s ever had? Sad, all of it, just sad. Alcohol, SUCKS! One last note, if he does’nt recognize it by now, then he’s doomed.

  • Waggle

Don’t worry, I’m sure he’ll ‘rebound’ from this.

  • Mike From Spain

@ Don -> your post reminded me of an old joke: money, just like the hurried lover, comes and goes

  • EJ

Somebody remind me again, why do people get married and have kids?

  • Ash

A Black man crying over not wanting to take care of the lives he created. As if this is rare. Funny how all of you broke idiots on here start bashing the women as golddiggers but give these deadbeats a pass. He didn’t have a problem supporting these kids in this way when he was sleeping with their mothers, but now they suddenly don’t deserve the support? FOH. If all these athletes stop going around having kids that they don’t raise in the first place we wouldn’t have all these issues. He’s broke and sick but he can travel around being a 50 yr old clown? Please. Not too sick or broke to live lavishly, but too broke and sick to take care of his damn kids. You meatheads are sitting around feeling sorry for this bisexual, self-hating idiot? You guys are worse than Rodman’s loser *ss.

  • empression32

Iagree with the comment for him to relocate to canada.Let’s give this man a break.Remember money is all root to evil.May be the exes need to see if they can go on the new show called basketball wives and make some of that money!

  • empression32

Those women need to go on that show call basketball wives and get some of that money.

Rodman is following the sad path so many others have taken. Recovery is hard but death is even harder.
