Julius Randle Announces He Will Attend Kentucky

The top power forward in the country announced live on ESPNU at about 1:18 p.m. today that he will be joining Kentucky’s Super Freshmen class in the fall after also considering Kansas, Texas, and Florida. He is projected to be a top-3 pick in next year’s NBA Draft. The 6-8 Texas native placed hats of the four respective schools he was considering in the table in front of him: Florida, Kansas, Kentucky and Texas—from left to right. Kentucky now arguably has the best recruiting class in the history of college basketball. The Wildcats have already received commitments from Andrew Harrison (the top point guard in the nation), Aaron Harrison (the top shooting guard in the nation), Dakari Johnson (the top center in the 2013 class), James Young (top 10 player), Marcus Lee (top 50 player) and Derek Willis. Andrew Wiggins, the top prep player in the nation and also cover boy of our current issue out (on newsstands now!), is also considering Kentucky. Say what you want about John Calipari, but when it comes to recruiting, he gets it done.

Great Day To Be A Wildcat!!!

Kentucky is just recruits or bad. They can’t win otherwise it seems. I’m going to be rooting for Wiggins (unless he goes too) and Parker.

With six All-Americans coming in, can UK logistically sign Wiggins now?

None of this year’s team should go to the NBA with the season they had. None of them really impressed me that much besides Noel. So Kentucky should have a great team next season with the combination of this year’s roster and next year’s freshman class.

Terrible grammar, but I’m pretty sure most schools “is just recruits or bad.” Name a national title winner in the past 20 years without great recruits. Duke is just full of bad recruits right?

    What duhhh helllll.

reminds me of zach randoplh, but can actually run fast and jump

I wonder how the NCAA feels about star-loaded teams. I can see them finding a way, or making a new rule, that prevents college teams from putting together all-star teams in the future, like the NBA did with the new CBA. I mean, it’s the NCAA we’re talking about here.

  • TBRK

really after being bounced by Robert Morris??? you can’t be serious….your squad is only as good as the current years recruiting class *facepalm*….WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS SPORT??????!! smh, watching it die before my eyes.

Coach C be getting these boys some sweet poootaanng on the side fo sure.

  • Jerome

I hope Wiggins goes to Florida State. Make your own way, sir.

you do realize it’s Kentucky right? Not some school that has to build from the ground up. Their recruiting class is their starting lineup for the most part. Well, since Calipari took over that is.
And you can expect some of those guys to transfer, or enter the draft anyway.

  • JC

As long as people don’t believe that Kentucky gets all these players without giving them stuff under the table i’m cool with this.. I just hope that Wiggins goes somewhere else and takes it upon himself to battle this super-team

  • Redd

Terrible grammar, yet you were able to effectively respond to me?

By recruits I implied top tier recruits. Name another time a team has had 6 of the top 20 NCAA recruits? I’m genuinely asking, I’m not really a NCAA fan but I’m fairly certain that hasn’t happened.

Kentucky lost the NIT this year without Noel, heck they may have with him too idk.

We all know PayPalCal can recruit, what the rest of you found out this year is that he can’t coach. Throwing his players under the bus time and again as opposed to really taking the blame. What a joke. UK completely, 100% soled their soul and the rest of the CBB world is loving every minute of it.

  • LeroyShonuff

Man… Coach Cal is doing something and it can’t just be the promise of the NBA cause UCLA, North Carolina, Duke, UConn and a host of other schools with better coaches can do the same. He’s already under intense pressure but now it’s ratchet up. Maybe UK will get hit for not graduating a higher enough percentage of players…

What you’ll have to expect is Nerlens going to the draft,Poythress,Goodwin and Wiltjer transferring.I don’t see any of those supposed transfers wanting to stay with Wiggins and Randle starting and getting major minutes and the fact that freshman start over them.Notice I said Wiggins? Yep he’s coming too.Wanna know why? He wants to win a championship and Calipari’s been recruiting him since he was a freshman, way before anybody.BURP! oh excuse me I’m just trying to digest two championship in three years.Yo Bill Self,Mark Turgeon,Leonard Hamilton and Roy Williams. YOU MAD BROS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reminds me more of Shawn Kemp with better range

i see cauley-stein going to the draft in the end. Kentucky has one crowded frontcourt especially if poythress returns

Year off a national title and have arguably the best recruiting class of all time coming in, not to mention elite 8 and final 4 the years before last year. I’d say it’s a good day. Everyone has down years.

  • http://www.facebook.com/chris.callihan1 Chris Callihan

They’re freshmen, and that team played more like normal freshmen. Your logic implied that they couldn’t win without good recruits…that’s rocket science. My response was that coaches can’t win titles without good recruits, using your own logic to defeat your argument. And if you had actually genuinely asked, instead of making a statement, I would have gladly answered.

  • Redd

Except you didn’t answer anything nor made a point…lol.

So how many top 10 players does Ohio have? Top 100? Gonzaga? exactly.

  • klassa

or just implement the baseball rule, let highschool players to the NBA or go to college for at least three years

  • Wiggins

hahahaha well, only 2 of those coaches have natty titles, although all 4 are far superior in basketball coaching than PayPalCal. Getting freshman to win you a title and actually building and developing bball players into great players and great citizens are 2 totally different things. The joke’s on you, per usual you all will be the last to laugh.

  • MrCuba

Just because Gonzaga has a #1 beside their name in the tourney does NOT mean they are good. Who have they played and beat that makes u say “hmm these guys are good”? NOBODY. they are number #1 because they kept beating mediocre teams while the real good teams were losing ahead of them. So it was somewhat logical they moved up in the rankings. What Ohio are you talking about? because OSU has 3 former McDonald AAs on the squad right now one of them avg 20 a game top 10 or McDonald AA’s are suppose to be the BEST in the country.

  • MrCuba

Does Cal have some fault? YES. do the players have MORE of the fault? YES. H e didnt throw them under the bus he said from the beginning “i do not know why we are ranked #3, because this team is NEW and have not played a game yet. Besides they are no where near the team last year.” not the EXACT words, but it is the point. The PLAYERS said in interviews they dont listen. a couple even pointed the finger at other players mistakes rather than accepting their own and saying it’s a TEAM problem. he didnt give up on them THEY never gave him a chance. If u were coaching a team and u had guys that were NOT listening to you and u had nobody to fill in their spot that would be effective PT wise, what would u do? I know players Cal coached and he TAUGHT them things to better themselves on the court. It wasnt as if last years team he was like ‘ok here’s the ball yall go play im just gonna sit right here and tweet about the game” Coach is yelling and screaming instructions the whole game. I do not know if u ever watch UK play, but if u did u would know about that.

  • MrCuba

IF Kyle IS transferring, all i see is really good back ups IF everyone came back.
    PG Harrison n Harrow
    Sg Harrison n Goodwin
Sf Young (this space could be Wiggins)
    PF Randle n Poyhtress
    C Johnson, Lee, n WCS

but in my opinion i dont see Goodwin NOT coming back i think he is TOO selfish to share with more talent. hate to say it but the boy didnt look like a passer A LOT lol. I also am 50/50 with you on WCS too.

  • Redd

A #1 is a #1..LOL no matter what. They didn’t win cause they suck, they won cause they’re pretty decent. This, while not having “Good recruits”.

If OSU had such great recruits why didn’t they break the Top 100 rankings? Why aren’t any projected to go 1st or even 2nd round?
