Perkins on Refs: They Don’t Like Us

by Marcel Mutoni

The local media started it, and now some of the Celtics players themselves are joining in the accusation that the men with the whistles are somehow against the team in green and white.

When asked for his opinion of what’s going on in the Bulls/Celtics, currently tied at 2 games apiece, Kendrick Perkins directed the blame for the C’s struggles at who else…the refs.

The Boston Herald reports:

“I don’t think the refs like the Boston Celtics,” he said after yesterday’s practice.

When asked why, Perkins also was careful to indict his team. “I don’t know,” he said, breaking into a smile. “We’ve got a lot of talkers on this team, if you know what I mean.” Perkins is one of them.

He has developed a look of disbelief – an aghast glare that mirrors the one patented by Tim Duncan following a whistle – that accompanies just about every call.

Perkins fouled out in the previous game (as did the Bulls’ Brad Miller.) Perk’s coach, naturally, still believes the refs aren’t giving his bigs a fair shake when it comes to moving screens.

With the series shifting back to Beantown for a pivotal Game 5, the need to work the refs on and off the court is more than understandable; one wishes, though, that the Celtics would take a page out of Chicago’s book, and simply let their play speak for them.

wow, you just might’ve dug yourself a pretty big hole calling MJ a prick, vtrobot.

  • phil

Is there something in the water up there that makes all Boston fans retarded?

  • Tommy Patron

vtrobot-MJ and Kobe do not care who likes them.

  • truthteller

    Perkins is talking now? Wow!

  • Kyle

NBA needs Lakers/Cavs or more importantly Kobe/Lebron Ton of money involved. You can skip the next month and tune in for the finals. The refs will supplement their incomes controlling the spread for the next few weeks and the finals will be Lakers/Cavs.

Vtrobot, it’s not about Perkins being a prick. It’s about him having no room to speak. Kobe can be a prick all he wants, he’s the best in the game. Perkins is a no-name loser who has no room to speak with all those boneheaded fouls. I don’t even care if the Celtics win or don’t win. You obviously can’t have educated conversations about topics, you just jump to assuming I want the Bulls to win.

  • vtrobot

cdef, i can have educated conversations. i’d agree that perk talks way more than his skills should allow him to, BUT he was a semi-important piece on last year’s championship team. i think that alone gives him the right to do some talking if he wants to. i don’t think i assumed who you were rooting for. @ phil: what makes you think we’re all reetaaahded up here? game time. enough of all this silliness. we can talk again when the C’s are up 3-2.

  • CDef28

    Yeah you did.
    “cdef28, i’m sorry. ray’s going for 30 tonight.”
    It’s all good though.

  • vtrobot

he would have hit 30 if he hadn’t “fouled” out. anyway, 3-2. as amazing as it is, it almost now seems like it was a good deal for gordon to turn down that contract. no more overtimes, please.

I wanna know what you guys have to say about perkins today… Perkins was a monster in the last quarter yesterday!!!! I know he’s not the best player in the world, but he did his job yesterday… If it wasnt for him and RR the game wouldn’t be that nice, boston would be dead in the last quarter and pierce wouldn’t do what he did. So before give all the credit for pierce we gotta see what everybody else did.

  • BostonBaller

I’m of the opinion that there is too much talking and jesturing from ALL the teams in the league and we tend to harp on the teams we don’t like. Perk talks and glares way too much for a player who has not earned the right to “unecessarily” talk smack. KG is the same today as he was in Minny so let’s not nit pick. I actually love his game now as I did then and I still hate all his swearing as I did when he was in Minny.

  • BostonBaller

phil, we drink the Charles River wadda after we color it green. (Since I’m retarded can my white jacket have green shamrocks on it?) Even though Perk has “never fouled anyone” he is very serviceable and I’d take him over a lot of centers in the L (Do the research) thatstheUNtruthruth, I don’t drink and I avoid bars b/c of guys like you who spew out 40oz knowledge while drinking cheap wine. Don’t let the anger get in the way of a good game. I bet you had a lot of negative things to say about Rondo and us Boston fans for saying he was a top pg. Some of us actually do know the game and root for our team w/out being complete homers…BTW, I hate to listen to Tommy H call a game.

  • brian scalabrine

Phils a tool, and brad miller sure got the smile smacked of his face when rondo b!tch slapped him, he deserved it after smiling when he flopped on jeezy shuttlesworths 6th pers.

  • Diesel

Why isn’t there any complaining from Celtic fans about the calls today? Oh yeah, because you got all the calls. Either you guys are the highest percentage shot blocking team of all time, or the refs finally gave in to Doc’s and Perkin’s post game whining. I’m with Jeremy Van Gundy…don’t even talk about the game anymore during press conferences. Just lobby for calls. It obviously worked for the Celtics in game 6.

  • Diesel

Brian, all we need now is someone to knock Davis’ eyes straight and everyone will be cool.
