Mo Williams on Orlando: They Can’t Beat Us

by Marcel Mutoni

Following Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, Mo Williams emerged as one of the players facing the most pressure as the Cavs attempt to even up the series.

Mo, though, isn’t sweating it. He doesn’t think the Orlando Magic stand much of a chance in this series anyway.

NBA.com caught up with the hyper-confident Mo before team practice yesterday:

Mo Williams came with the bulletin board material today before practice.”I don’t feel this team can beat us four times,” he said. And then reiterated to make sure we heard him, “I don’t see them beating us four times.”

The quote was unsolicited. He was asked if there was a difference now that the Cavs are behind for the first time in these Playoffs.”It doesn’t change anything for me,” he started. “It’s good, because I’ve never been here before. So me being down 0-1, it doesn’t really mean anything to me.”

And then he went straight to saying that he can’t imagine his team losing this series.

Mo Williams, ladies and germs!

Always a terrific idea for a guy with hardly any Playoff experience at all to be completely dismissive of his wildy talented opponent in the conference championship round.

Yet another example of Mo “the wwe tactic utilizing fool” Williams taking over the Mo “shouldn’t i just be in a gym concentrating on m weaknesses from game 1″ Williams, when a Mic gets waved in his face. Idiot.

  • http://sfdjilf.com Jukai

Hey Mo, could you give me a hand with this math problem, I don’t have a calculator on me. What’s six divided by 19?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Myles Brown

Hey Mo, this season they HAVE beaten you four times. Including two unquestionable a** whoopings and a valiant come from behind win. You’ve beaten them once. By about 3 points. Please stop talking.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Hahaha, that was an awesome one by the Jukester. Thought he was losing his comedy chops lately, but he’s baaaaack.

  • BostonBaller

The quote was unsolicited. WOW. Most times guys answer questions by the media and get smashed for answering a question but this guy is either “not so smart” or he is so caught up on being with James that he actually thinks they can’t be beat. Maybe he and Hoard can go in a room full of media and go at it with predictions.

  • neaorin

  • DFigs

This can’t be a real quote. He can’t possibly be that stupid.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Umm, yes he can. (what is that like his 3rd “prediction” this season?) idiot.

  • 1ozzy

(read with a whisper)hey, mo, ahhhhhh, yeah, counting playoffs and regular season, thats 4 -1, Orlando. . .But they were just lucky. . .

  • Clockwork

I’m going to enjoy watching Dwight erase all of his layup attempts.

Who does he think he is, Rasheed Wallace?

  • http://www.twitter.com/Th3_R3al_Chris Young Chris MP3

    Myles for the win!

  • JohnK

This isn’t a big deal. Basically all he said is his team is going to win. I doubt that will serve as extra motivation for the magic in a playoff game. Besides, its nice to have athletes who speak their mind when they talk to the media.

  • http://allanzuss@yahoo.com Mendel

the fine print said “in a row”

  • mj23

What’s wrong with having confidence? This Cavs team has a lot of swagger, and it comes from playing with Lebron.

  • http://slamonline.com cb 34

Why is everybody hating on mo for saying this? Rasheed used to do this all the time and we loved him for it. Maybe it’s his way of firing his team up. He truly believes what he said and nothing wrong with that.

  • Flash

mo williams likes to talk lets see if he can walk

  • http://www.sprint.com/pre dma

nobody on the corner have swagger like mo.

  • neaorin

Seriously, not that I don’t agree with the general idea of everyone’s posts, but the Magic are only 3-1 against the Cavs this season, counting Game 1 the other night. It’s not that hard to check.

  • http://slamonline.com cb 34

Regular season games don’t count for anything come this time of the year. The playoffs are a different ballgame. Denver didn’t beat the lakeshow over the regular and carmelo averaged like 16 a game against them. He’s had 73 points in the last 2 against LA plus a w. The playoffs is a different animal.

  • Michael

And they say the Lakers are arrogant.

  • Dubya

Aren’t the Magic like 3-1 against you guys this year? Courtney Lee locks you down broseph. And LeBron can’t just sit and shoot over Rashard and Hedo they’re too long. And he’s not going to dunk all over Dwight like he does to others. I did see a rookie dunk on LeBron though. Look out for Courtney Lee

  • http://www.hbo.com/thewire/ jasondolemite

JohnK is right. No big deal. Magic won’t even use this as bulletin board material. Typical stupid media hyping nothing at all, and typical stupid fans buying into it…

  • madamerica

One should ask Moe, can you see YOUR team beating THEM four times??

  • http://ittakesanationofmillionstoholdthissac.blogspot.com ciolkstar

This was a foolish statement. Take a hint from LBron nad let your game do the talking.

  • breeze

mo williams has lost his milwakee buck ass mind…show and then tell ….

  • Teddy-the-Bear

LOL! Alright, I like Mo, but he seriously needs to stop talking and just PLAY.

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Rasheed won a chip. Mo played for the Bucks.

  • http://slamonline.com cb 34

Look, guaranteeing a victory has always been a part of sports. It’s used as motivation for most cases and i don’t see anything wrong with it. I’d have a problem with it if it was unrealistic but there’s nothing unrealistic about this cavs team.Remember the westphal guarantee when they were down 0-2 to the lakers in 93 then he guaranteed 3 straight wins and of course they advanced. Back then everybody was thinking how stupid he was after losing the first 2 home games in phoenix but he backed it up. What if he knows deep down they can back it up? Will all of you stop hating on mo if he walks the walk?

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

Overreacting, much? Didn’t Dwight guarantee that they would beat the Celts when they were down 2-3? He’s SUPPOSED to believe that they can’t beat them 4 times. Players do what they do to get their confidence back. He made that statement to put pressure on him and to show the magic that the cavs weren’t shooked by their game 1 loss. Typical sports braggadocio, nothing more nothing less.

  • bike

Mo, all they have to do now is beat you 3 times and it’s over.

  • JoeMaMa

Woody Harrelson on Mo Williams: “Brick! Brick! Hey, Mo, I have an idea: let’s gather up all these bricks and build a house. That way your mother and your sister have a place to stay. I want your mom and your sister outta my house…”

And people wonder how Money Train got a green light…

  • http://slamonline.com Russ Bengtson

Orlando on Mo Williams: “We Beat You!”

  • http://sjsu.edu davidR

maybe they cant beat you 4 times, but you can definitely lose to them 4 times

  • http://www.cavs.com MooButter

How do people keep saying Lee dunked on Lebron? He was chasing him down to try get a block Courtney just beat him to the basket. That is not getting “dunked on”.

  • JoeMaMa

    You’re wrong, Moo. Completely.
If you watch the tape, Lebron set himself up to meet Lee at the rim. He actually slowed down a bit to get better position. Lee just exploded to the rim, which Lebron didn’t expect. So Lebron was half a step late, something he can only blame himself for.
Dude got dunked on. It’s that simple.

  • http://www.myspace.com/linkstigatorkevin Kevin Wilson

I like Mo Williams, and I think the Cavs are winning this series, but you need to shut the eff up when you’re trailing in the series without homecourt advantage.

  • http://slamonline.com DONONE

  • D12FSU

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. magic in 6

  • playboy

HAHHAA magic in 5. lebron will get dunked on more than twice this series. ( i know he already got dunked on twice in game 1)

  • http://phoenixsunsrising.blogspot.com Hersey

If it takes a quote to make you play harder, you shouldn’t be a pro. Orlando beat a team that hadn’t played in 8 days in a tight game. The Magic have dropped home games in the previous rounds. This series has a long way to go.

  • Thugleavy34

“He’s SUPPOSED to believe that they can’t beat them 4 times.”

No, he’s supposed to believe they WON’T beat them 4 times. There’s a difference.

  • Harrell

  • D12FSU

I just love how the title of this article is, ‘They can’t beat us’….well, wha ha happen wa..

  • scraendubs

    haha fighting talk from mo.i.am

  • dubya816

Moo: Bro you’re a Cavs fan so of course you would say he didn’t get dunked on but in all reality he did. LeBron was about 27% in front of him. Just calm down. We witnessed a good player carry a team and sudden bandwagon for most of a season. Now let the legit teams with more than 2 players get their due.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

‘Sheed could/can say whatever he wants as opposed to Mo because, for starters, he’s a veteran player, and almost his whole career, he’s been successful, whether at college, for the Blazers, or the Pistons. He had played at that level (2nd round +) consistently. Mo played for a team that hadn’t made the playoffs for however many years. Big difference.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

Does ‘Shard even care if he makes FT’s? He looks so complacent and non-chalont(sp?) when he does. That’s at least 4 that he’s missed now, and it is probably going to cost the Magic later in the game if they cut the margin down.

  • http://jakeandamir.com tealish

The refereeing is just awesome — apparently, you can throw the ball at people without so much as a technical!

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Wow, Mo sure is backing up his big mouth tonight. 3rd quarter and he’s 4-15? With lots of amateurish Turnovers thrown in for good measure….way to “walk the walk” duderinho!

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Okay, goosebumps…goosebumps…mofo-ing goosebumps while watching the Nba Playoff AD collage with all the current stars commenting on how they feel about the playoffs and we see some of the classic playoff moments (Reggie’s chokehold, Shaq’s humongous alley oop from Kob’s, Isiah, Willis, Jordan) woooohooo, that’s what i’m talking about.

  • don

mo’s my man. i just hope he’s not being too confident.

  • http://thatwillneverhappenquailyourretarted.com nbk

Another Game in which the referee’s try and decide the end. Its astonishing

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

Some seriously bad calls went against Orlando in the 4th… so much heart to stay in the game up to this point… 13 seconds remaining… whoo!

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Well well, Pietrus is putting a defensive clinic on Bron in the 4th. Bump him, hurt him at times, block him, make him travel, the whole nine yards…. and it’s another tight one in Cleveland, who knew the Magic were this tough mentally? Down 20 in the 2nd? Who cares? Not the Magic, it seems

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

the refs? so Bron did not travel on that second to last call? Hedo got a bailout call, but it was 50/50 at best. Here we go, Hedo has the ball… OH…MY..GOODNESS!

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Umm, supposed Coach of the year of the Cavs?? a question, why would Sasha be guarding Hedo (who’s been on fire in the second half) and not your all defensive first teamer? Hey Bron, say what you want about Kob’s but at this juncture, you bet HE’D BE GUARDING THE OPPONENT’S MAIN THREAT.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BRON BRON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was siiiiiiiickkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Okay, i just made everyone in my building think about calling the police, since i screamed so loud, they might have thought there was a murder going on…that shot was legen….dary!

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

that was quite the mindblower…Orlando played a great 4th quarter, limited Bron, made the Cavs look amateurish at times, Mo was again not that important in the scheme of things, and then Hedo (i’m calling him “the closer” from now on) nearly won it for em, then LEBRON JAMES JUST RIPPED THEIR HEARTS OUT!!

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

  • http://www.galatasaray.org madamerica

Poor Hedo. He made two huge shots at the end but couldn’t deny the King that three. Hero to, not zero, but, well, back to Hedo.

    I love tacos…….and Lebron’s winner!

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

Orlando was really good again and the Cavs were to. Shame games as great as that have to end.

  • http://www.shawn-kemps-offspring.blogspot.com Eboy

I wonder if someone will dedicate a piece to Lebron’s game winner on Monday as the defining moment of his career so far…you know, ’cause if they lost, they’d have been lost for good.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

i second albie’s notion: omfg, INDEED

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

the guys on inside the nba are having quite the argument going now, especially some ripping Hedo for bad D on the last shot (Kenny know it all) and Barkley stating correctly that Bron did a push off (totally ok in my book) and got himself that extra space

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Might i add, the MAGIC are for real. These dudes play team ball and they deserved this win, the Cavs playbook in the halfcourt is incredibly limited. And my undying love for my man Pietrus continues to grow. Allez les bleus!

  • Pingback: SLAM ONLINE | » Magic/Cavs Game 2 Recap

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

@Dark: les bleus is for all sports then? dude was one of my fav when he was on the warriors.
on another note, does anybody else think having a 4th analyst on the insdie the nba is usually a bad thing? reggie is simply grating and just try to say the opposite sh!t. cwebb has good insight sometimes, but his rhythm doesn’t match with the rest of the team. most of the time he’s shouting over someone else. he’s better with GP and ahmad. the only one who works well with the crew is magic, but now he’s on the follower.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

actually i’m not french and i’m pretty sure les bleus is just for the national soccer team, but meh… i found it quite fitting, since Pietrus at times plays for the french basketball side AND wears blue half the season long while with Orlando. Yeah, yeah, far fetched, i know… bear with me.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

albie: you had me at “reggie is simply grating”. sums that dungheap up nicely.

  • tim

imagine the magic with jameer nelson…

  • http://slamonline.com cb 34

Bron is too good. I’m surprised with the magic though.I didn’t think they had this much heart to come back from 23 down. Cavs are still winning but if orlando starts to hit their inside outside game, there’s not much any team can do. You can’t cover shard and hedo. Bron and company have to keep at least one of the two from going off

  • http://www.galatasaray.org madamerica

If Jameer was healthy, Orlando would be the favorites to win it all. Whatever happens this year, they need to keep this squad intact.

  • LJ

    cavs just too good.

  • ro

Fair play for hitting the shot, but SVG and the magic- a question. How do you not foul that off…at least take it to OT….but to give up any kind of three at that point in the game… the only kind of shot you can’t come back from….thats just crazy

  • ab_40

here now this you can use this because he said what you tell he said. not like that k-mart quote.

Why is he talking they got home court now and they’ve beaten them by 1 point and in both games LBJ was playing all out. AT HOME.

I’m hopint they both go 7 games:D to test all the teams grith and stamina

  • bill breedley

Magic and Lakers in the finals. Lebron will not make another clutch shot again this series to bail out his team that chokes big time when the game is tight. without the homer calls and none calls Magic would have easily won by 5 or 7 pts. Sure Gortat is a bench player and Lebron is the NBA’s Biggest Star (At least in Ohio) but no way should refs call 2 staight block fouls on a guy well planted above the no charge zone. That loser Doug Collins is such a Lebron ball squeezer. He is so blind whenever a bull crap call goes Cleveland’s way.

Right not (with the Celtics eliminated) the Magic are the best TEAM in the NBA. David Stern should give them their due. No more rigged games please

  • http://www.slamonline.com georgej1291

No Mo as in No mo’help for Labron. Mo’ has hoof in mouth disease. They slid by on the skin of their teethfriday. they get one more but none in Orlando. Orlando in 6.

  • Big c

The Cavs are lucky to not be down 2-0 meaybe Mo should be quiet for now.

all eyes not on mo williams..except when he shoots a 3…and of course he wets em. he’s cold man, him and delonte…they cold. perfect complement to king lebron the general…and they soldiers

it’s hard not to get big headed, when da MVP is playing on your side.

@ albie1kenobi / darksaber, I’m french .. and in fact we say ” les bleus ” about any national teams .. but ONLY the ones who win ! like in handball or football/soccer and I’m also happy that Pietrus has finally a place to show his skills even if he lost the starter status …..

  • Coney Islander

I think the man just might be right. lol

  • CDef28

Cosign Tim. I cannot wait until the Magic get Nelson back next for next year, although I wish they had him now. I get sick of how everyone was quick to point out last series that the Celtics were without Garnett, but no one brought up Nelson. If the Magic had him right now, there is no doubt in my mind that they are clearly the better team. Guess we will just have to see next year.

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

Bonsoir Fredd. Merci pour ton clarification. Très gentil. Encore une nonne journée.

memo to mo williams. you are lucky to still barely be in this series. minus that fluke shot of Lebron this series would be over by now.

is it just me, but it seems the league is trying extra hard to win this series for the cavs with all the poor officiating.

  • knock knock

“it seems every time lebron dribbles a whistle is blown” – stan van gundy

-during a first quarter interview on how to stop lebron.

  • bill breedley

and still they lose despite all the questionable calls that go Lebron’s way.

whatever happened to the “he makes his teammates better” thing they always say about Bron. now his team is not good enough and Bron is whining he is alone and carrying all the load. Sounds like Kobe from a couple of years back. Memo to Bron you have “all star” Mo Williams, a former no 1 pick and a former defensive player of the year on your team.

  • http://myspace.com/2grownup2beshownup Jack

    Haha Mo, Mo, Mo.

  • http://slamonline.com Mike

Once again the cavs are an amazing shot from being down 0-3. If you are still not seeing what’s going on you so called basketball fans need to wake the hell up and smell the elbows. The magic are going to ruin everything much to David sterns and those B.S. officials dislike. I didn’t want to believe the conspricy but when the commish is so arrogant and self absorbed that this is going to be a serious problem if he doesn’t correct the officiating, even I have doubts now.

  • The Promise

Wow, this guy talks a lot, to be doing so little on the court to help his team.

  • larrylegend

courtney lee is no joke! mo is.

Hey darsaber, bonjour : ) j’espere que tu passes une bonne journée aussi !

Ahh the Magic won … so cool ! … but if the officials give the next T to Dwight, then … it will be a different story, the Cavs are not the Sixers … but I still think the Magic can head to the Finals … damn if it’s Denver-Orlando … I’d like it, but not the T.V owners !

  • George B

    shut up and make shots!

  • http://mikkelthegreat.carbonmade.com AmazingDesign

Yeah Mo is sort of right, the correct way to say it is “they can’t beat Lebron”. Orlando can beat the Cavs as a team.

  • truthteller

There should be a NBA that prohibits sub standard players such as Mo to speak or talk trash in public until they have reached a certain level of greatness. It’s getting really annoying hearing Mo talking trash when he hasn’t shown up in this series yet! This is his first playoffs and he’s already feeling himeself! i just call him the ’09 version of Damon Jones! And I’ll tell him Mo what I told Damon Jones, “SHUT UP!!!!!”

  • http://www.youtube.com The Promise

I’m very interested to see how he plays tonight. If he comes out and tries to take a buncha stupid shots in an attempt to back his trash talk up, he will only do worse. He has to let the game come to him. Lebron will get him good looks, he just has to knock them down.

  • The Truth

I think Mo just needs to shut his mouth, I mean its not like hes done much this whole series. I think the Magic are more than capable of winning this series. And the Cavs have to go back to playing as a whole rather than the “Give LeBron the ball and get out of the way” offense of old. The Cavs are now realizing its not that easy. If they beat the Cavs, they’ll beat em together, not jus LeBron.

  • The Truth

***beat the magic, not Cavs, I mean.

  • Joey Jo Jo

Well the Magic’s only ONE win away from proving Mo Williams wrong

  • http://www.lkz.ch Darksaber

heyyyy, another 5-15 gem with no three’s in the mix, gotta love the guy’s consistency. So, another “Moruantee” coming up after this game i assume? that’s been his M.O. all series long no? terrible shooting then some insane proclamations in the pressroom!

  • Joey Jo Jo

Lebron, please hit Mo on the back of the head the next time he makes a comment like that while not being of any help at all…please?!
