Agent: Kevin Durant to Consider Playing Overseas

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

To date, Deron Williams is the only current NBA star to have inked a deal with an overseas team during the lockout. The rest have hinted that if the right opportunity came along, they’d certainly listen to offers (and in some special cases, other sports are even being considered.)

You can now add Kevin Durant to the list of players willing to consider the option of playing in another league during the NBA lockout.

Durant’s agent says he’s happy to hear pitches from international teams for his client’s services.

From SI:

[Kevin Durant's] agent, Aaron Goodwin, told SI.com that he is exploring overseas options for his most high-profile client.

“If the opportunity presents itself and the lockout persists, he’s going to have to consider it just as other players are considering it,” Goodwin said. “Kevin has shown some interest to know what the situation is and we’ll reach out to the players’ association and make sure that they’re aligned with the guys in case they do take an offer. But I think what you’re going to see happening is a lot of players are going to look at the opportunity if the lockout prolongs that they can go somewhere and play basketball.”

“If they’re not allowed to play in the NBA, they’ve got to look at other opportunities. If you have teams that want you to play and the NBA is willing to sit out a year, why sit out a year?”

It remains to be seen just how many of the L’s marquee names will sign overseas, thus putting more pressure than ever on NBA team owners to quickly end the lockout.

Are they just going down the All-NBA team lists and reporting one a day?

  • Waggle

Each ‘ player X considering playing overseas’ thread is more exciting than the last!

    More posturing.

Let’s end the madness people!!! Are top tier NBA players considering playing overseas? Yes. Will they actually go and play overseas? No. Why? They don’t have any incentive to go overseas and play because they have enough money to sit out a season. All they’re doing is selling wolf tickets…nothing to see here.

every single one of you is right. iam gradually losing respect for kevin durant, its seems like the KING HYENA (BILLY HUNTER) is having them sing this chorus so everyone can get fired up about it! please….

Most of these summer articles are either “Player wants to stay with his current team”, “Team is denying trade ruomors”, “Player is considering overseas.” I would actually be fine if Slam simply said “We have no news today.”

I am also considering playing overseas. I also considered having sex with Jessica Alba. None of that considering matters until something actually happens.

So, everybody’s going to take a pay cut to play ball?
The players AND the owners are acting like clowns.

  • JD

@the philosopher there not taking a pay cut becuase there not getting paid anything becuase of the lockout thats why they’re going overseas to earn enough money to keep their nba lifestyle going in the case of the stars

The Philosopher: It’s not hypocricy. I’m not even going to explain it. It’s just not.

  • http://www.facebook.com The Philosopher

    It probably isn’t.
    I’m just venting.

But if a player was making 10+ million the day before the lockout, and now he’s making 5 million overseas, wouldn’t he have made the same money in the States after the lockout?

  • http://wealwayswin.net Hersey

I’d much rather see a Harlem Globetrotter type team just house college teams and Euro teams. Like Marathon Oil on steroids.

  • http://dsjfklf.com Jukai

Philo: One is supposed to be a temporary paycut until the lockout is over. The other would be permanently taking a pay cut.

  • http://dsjfklf.com Jukai

Also, I’m still waiting for one of those euro teams to field Paul, Williams, Nash, Kobe, Wade, Lebron, Durant, Blake, Dirk, Love, Amare and Howard.

  • Towelie

^^^ If any team overseas acquires atleast 3 of those players….

  • http://dsjfklf.com Jukai

Man, could you imagine a team of Lebron, Wade and even Bosh? Sh*t like that would never happen in the NBA.

  • JB

Good I hope the whole league falls apart just to get rid of Stern. The comish needs to step down

  • doyouwantmore

JB: That’s just immature. David Stern has done an amazing job. Be thankful that the league isn’t obsolete with the economy the way it is. — And about NBA’ers going overseas? I really hope they do. Some of these guys will appreciate what the NBA means when they’re stuck in their locker room because Turkish fans want to murder them (and not metaphorically) or when they haven’t seen a cheerleader that doesn’t have a mustache for a couple weeks. I know its not that bad, but I bet there’s going to be a few guys that come back ready to be humble like Allen Iverson.

  • doyouwantmore

Unions are a good idea that got turned into a great evil.

  • Groves

    @doyouwantmore… bit racist hey?

  • doyouwantmore

How was it racist? Turkey is a country, not a race. The real racists are people who throw the term around to shut up opinions they don’t like. Keep on believing everything CNN and MTV tell you to believe. I’m sure you can go on The View and cry about the lack of ‘diversity’ on NBA message boards.

  • doyouwantmore

Racism is when someone’s first instinct is to look at race as a reason for something, particularly something they don’t like. You, Bill Maher, Eric Holder, Al Sharpton, and Joy Behar are racist for bringing up race all the time. Someone disagrees with gov’t spending? Racist. Someone wants to own a gun? Racist. Read the Bible? Racist. Jaywalking? Racist. Whatever you accuse others of, that’s the thing you’re guilty of yourself. Remember that.
