Dwight Howard Also Intrigued By the Overseas Option

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

And the list just keeps growing longer, with no signs of it slowing down anytime soon …

Dwight Howard is the latest NBA superstar to express interest in playing for a team overseas should the League cancel games in the 2011-2012 season.

While on a promotional tour in Spain, Howard told the press that playing for a European squad would be a nice little side gig while he awaits for the lockout to end.

Málaga Hoy reports (and I do a poor job of translating):

The NBA is experiencing a crisis because of the lockout (players’ strike that threatens the start of the league in October) What is your opinion? “I think most players agree. I hope they fix the situation as soon as possible to avoid losing a game of the season. The NBA is a global competition followed by millions of viewers and should not pass things like this.”

If the lockout continues, Unicaja needs a player to strengthen the paint area … “It would be fun to play at Unicaja, it sure would be a great experience for me. If the break does not stop I would come to Europe to continue to improve on a great team to end the lockout when ready.”

Do with the above information what you will.

Even in Spain, the media hounded Dwight Howard about his impending free agency, a topic which he once again artfully side-stepped.

@Kas, If Dwight moves overseas, I bet that he will dominate every game.

How can you drop the same post 10 times everyday?

  • bull22

this is getting really old, these nba players need to follow the example
of the nfl players and keep their traps shut about their plans, the more they talk about this, the more fans they will lose… iam beginning to be glad there may not be an nba season…

  • robb

EVERYBODY is intrigued by the overseas option. Thanks Slam.

  • ripcity8

@robb Yeah Slam is getting really annoying with this. Of course all the NBA players are intrigued about getting paid, Slam needs to stop posting this for every player.

Inversely it’s putting pressure on the owners to come up with a resolution. They too have to calculate the risk.
I think it’s a good thing. But it would be interesting to hear what the foreign clubs players are saying since there will be starter spots lost and players cut from their teams.

  • flash

nba players are bluffers. i doubt it when they say theyre playing overseas. to see is to believe fools

Dwight Howard work on your free throws, that should intrigue him more. Playing overseas cannot help him, unless he is demanding a trade to LA.

  • BigO241

Please>>>> Dwight Howard u should start thinking about coming to the Lakers Instead of going somewhere else….

  • J.C.

Hey guys check it out: there’s a lockout going on atm in the NBA. What else is SLAM going to report on? At least they’re still regularly updating the site and trying to give you something to read.

  • rich

ill say it again, instead of going overseas, put up a one on one leage featuring all the current players in the nba. travel to every non nba city in the usa split the purse evenly among all the participants, gates, tv shares, sponsorships etc. this way we all stay close to family, second we get to watch nba ballers during the lockout and finally it would be fun to get to know who the best player in the l really is/.

You can’t say a player is better than another player when he beats him 1 on 1. You can’t see who the better passer, rebounder, help defender,… is.

The NBAPA needs to just form a interim league. I’m not sure of the legalities but I would think they’d be able to name their price more or less, in terms of selling access to the games

  • DieselMechanic

I doubt they’ll really do it. They’re just making threats to try to scare the owners.
