Video: Ricky Rubio Meets With Kings

Ricky had his first meeting with NBA brass yesterday. Kings.com met the point guard at Embassy Suites somewhere in-between his physical and dinner with Kings officials. He’s scheduled to run some light drills in the early afternoon. (via FH)

Notice Rubio no longer is built like a twig, as The Bee’s Ailene Voisin points out: “Having only watched Rubio on television, most closely during last summer’s Olympics, I was surprised by his physique. Dressed in a black T-shirt, shorts and sneakers, he appeared taller than his listed height - close to 6-foot-5. He also had better definition, particularly in his upper arms. He wasn’t the skinny young thing he looks like on the tube.”

  • Ajo Posted: Jun.17 at 9:48 am
    how were his workouts??

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jun.17 at 9:53 am
He’s working out in a couple hours, Ajo. I’m sure we’ll hear the Kings’ impressions soon thereafter.

I want Rubio on an east coast team. It sucks that the so called lottery landed like 5 of the top 7 spots to an already superior west coast teams.

  • Yassi Posted: Jun.17 at 10:04 am
jeeez, he almost made me cry…….

  • Yassi Posted: Jun.17 at 10:06 am
@Ajo: its a 9 hour time difference, so early morning there…….

  • ti-sizz Posted: Jun.17 at 10:15 am
woahh.. ricky is so cute!! co-sign jeff fox. girly eyes and hair lol

  • wayno Posted: Jun.17 at 10:46 am
The Jonas Brothers caller, they want Ricky back…

  • niQ Posted: Jun.17 at 11:38 am
and with that, ricky plans to dominate the league by his mere cute-ness.

  • Yassi Posted: Jun.17 at 11:42 am
…leave him alone. thats just the way he is, the way he looks and the way he talks.
    want another stereotype wanna-be coola**?
besides he is only 18….come on…..

  • Jukai Posted: Jun.17 at 11:46 am
One thing about the dude, he’s smart. Seems to be beefing up in preparation for the draft. And growing. It was smart of him to grow two inches.

  • Jukai Posted: Jun.17 at 12:05 pm
    Kings fans: he’s from Spain!!!!!!!

  • Jeff Fox Posted: Jun.17 at 12:24 pm
Jukai’s right - it is always a smart move to grow 2 inches before the draft - don’t know why more plays don’t do it.

  • kwame Posted: Jun.17 at 12:31 pm
sniff sniff…i can smell the hate

  • Quail Posted: Jun.17 at 1:22 pm
the only way the kings will get him is if they trade up to 2nd pick. the only problem is, they dont have what the grizzlies need to trade for it other than cash. i cant wait to use this guy on NBA 2K10. haha

  • Alan Posted: Jun.17 at 1:42 pm
let’s see where he ends. I’m really expecting the draft night.

  • slamfan4life Posted: Jun.17 at 1:52 pm
I hope he goes to Sac town, imma bulls fan but damn Sac needs a star BAD

  • knock knock Posted: Jun.17 at 2:46 pm
umm he still looks very much like a twig in a extra small t. The way he talked about how the “championship” olympic game was his biggest you would think him having 8pts 3 assists would be played down not making him the next chris paul. I feel sorry for whatever team is picking him, he will get destroyed in the league.

    Spanish fly

  • Izzo Posted: Jun.17 at 3:54 pm
I think we should all automatically doubt Ricky no matter what.It will leave us time to overhype lesser players.

  • Luke Posted: Jun.17 at 4:18 pm
One thing it looks like he has, besides ability,is humilty…wow that rhymed, cool! But really,I think in the next few years this guy is going to be great,ALOT better than Brandon Jennings.Rubio seems like the type that will work for everything, take nothing for granted, and keep his feet firmly on the ground. He still gave credit to Jennings and how he played against him after BJ said he was ”all hype”.We’re gonna see alot of R Squared for years to come.By the way,if Slam ever runs a ”Whats my name” for Rubio..I should automatically win with that one. Thanks!

  • Luke Posted: Jun.17 at 4:18 pm
    *HUMILITY

  • Ryne Nelson Posted: Jun.17 at 4:32 pm
Does every player from Spain need the “Spanish Fly” moniker? Yeesh!

  • Jukai Posted: Jun.17 at 5:27 pm
Izzo is definitely my favorite poster ever.

  • Overtime Posted: Jun.17 at 5:43 pm
Anyone else think the reporter was mundane as hell?
Hope Ricky is gunna be a good player, but we know he’ll never be a good scout: ”They are good team”-When asked about the Kings

  • nate the great Posted: Jun.17 at 5:49 pm
maybe the blazers should get rubio. so him and rudy can play together.
we will give them sergio, and blake, and out first round, maybe throw in webster, or outlaw, and frye. for rubio, and martin.

  • Gerard Himself Posted: Jun.17 at 8:17 pm
The only two things in the Draft that are really interesting to me this year: which player will end up with the Nets? (I’m a Nets fan) And where is Tricky Ricky going?

  • thesubwayconnection Posted: Jun.17 at 8:26 pm
    That dude’s hair is terrible.

  • Kingsfan Posted: Jun.17 at 9:53 pm
This Rubio video interview is from the paper out there - http://www.sacbee.com/static/weblogs/sports/kings/archives/2009/06/bee-exclusive-i.html

Abusón calls Illinois Illinoise! Awesome. Six hours in the country and he’s already more American than I am, wow.

  • Joel O's Posted: Jun.18 at 12:29 am
Why the “hate”? For someone who until recently was sheltered from the press, Ricky has a mix of humility and quiet confidence - not unlike a certain Derrick Rose - and he’s not even speaking in his native tongue. Also, he’s definitely added muscle - look at those shoulders, they weren’t there last summer. I don’t see anything not to like.

  • Joel O's Posted: Jun.18 at 12:34 am
Also, what is the measure of a PG? Rather, what is more important - how fast his first step is, or whether he can actually run a team? People forget that the latter is the most important thing about a PG. Think Mark Jackson - slow, shaky shooter, can’t jump… but can he run a team? Heck yeah. Rubio may or may not be tremendously athletic, but he has the length & court vision to someday develop into a hell of a floor leader.

  • pg Posted: Jun.18 at 1:13 am
No homo, but the dude (if he pans out) will be the face of a franchise or one of the global icons of the league based on looks alone. his skills seem to be there, now its jus a matter of proving it…iternational players usually struggle in the first year or so, so hopefully he does well…a place like toronto would be great for him to come to, but I doubt he’d drop that low.

  • Ed Posted: Jun.18 at 2:27 am
    Dude loves him some Nike.

  • jay Posted: Jun.18 at 7:36 am
FCUK Brandon Jennings. He’s a flop waiting to happen.

  • caoneidaren Posted: Aug.26 at 7:50 am
    so handsome!I will never forget!
