Mavs executive Donnie Nelson says there’s a good chance Rudy Fernandez will win the SG job. From the Star-Telegram: “In a move to get more scoring punch in their starting backcourt, the Mavs acquired Rudy Fernandez from the Portland Trail Blazers in a three-team, draft-day trade that also involved the Denver Nuggets. General manager Donnie Nelson all but assured that the 6-foot-6 Fernandez would be in the starting backcourt alongside Jason Kidd when the NBA champions start the 2011-12 season. ‘[The trade for Fernandez] has a combination of getting our backcourt a little bit more athletic and having a little bit of a scoring punch,’ Nelson said. ‘He’s also an underrated defender… and a big-time athlete who can break defenses down.'”
