Spurs wing DeMar DeRozan will return to San Antonio for the 2020-21 season as he’s elected to pick up his player option worth $27.7 million, Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reports.
The 31-year-old will play out the fifth and final year of the near $140 million deal he inked with the Toronto Raptors back in 2016.
DeRozan had a solid 2019-20 campaign in San Antonio, averaging 22.1 points per contest but may have been hard pressed to find a more lucrative contract given the shortage of teams with cap space this offseason.
The return of DeRozan will push the Spurs above the salary cap as expected. He’ll hit unrestricted free agency next offseason.
