Celebrating a decade of the top prep basketball competition, Jordan Brand, a division of NIKE, Inc., yesterday announced with Kevin Durant of the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder that the 2011 Jordan Brand Classic will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the Time Warner Cable Arena. Durant was the 2006 co-Most Valuable Player of the Jordan Brand Classic.
The 2011 Jordan Brand Classic will feature the nations’ top prep players in a National Game, a Regional Game featuring the best high school players from the state of North Carolina in an East vs. West matchup, and an International Game with the top 17-and-under players from around the world.
“We are thrilled that for 10 years the Jordan Brand Classic has been the premier destination where the biggest names in youth basketball can display their talents in a competitive environment while also receiving teaching that will leave them equipped to reach their goals of being successful both on and off the court,” said Keith Houlemard, President of Jordan Brand.
Throughout its 10-year history, the Jordan Brand Classic has served as a stage for many of basketball’s top players to introduce their game to a national audience. Select alumni of the Jordan Brand Classic include Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Chris Paul and Amar’e Stoudemire.
“The Jordan Brand Classic has always had a special place in my heart, as my last high school game and as a national springboard into my success in college and on the professional level,” said Chris Paul. “To hold the 10th anniversary game in my home state and where the brand truly started is a testament to all of the great players who have put on a Jordan Brand Classic jersey through the years.”
The 2011 Jordan Brand Classic All-American Team will be announced in February. In addition to the game, the Jordan Brand All-Americans also participate in activities that help reinforce the message of hard work extending beyond the hardwood and into the community.
